# online hopefully
but myspace makes it hard for proggy gits such as ourselves to sort it all out. Anyway, I'm bass and arts, I'm not involving myself in all that hassle.
(, Mon 13 Oct 2008, 12:15, archived)
# :D
well - let me know and I'll share my minimal techno (pft) when I finally get something finished and uploaded.

# Down with my sort of thing.
(, Mon 13 Oct 2008, 12:21, archived)
# No it doesn't...
15,000 downloads of our last EP. All you need to do is send it off to loads of places for review...

I'd recommend Organ zine for starters...
(, Mon 13 Oct 2008, 12:22, archived)
# Yes it does, our songs are massive and myspace makes it so we have to compress them to fuck
before posting them, and even then they only work for a few days before something fucks up.
(, Mon 13 Oct 2008, 12:24, archived)
# Oh... you mean the player...
nah, sod that, jsut put bits up. You can use it as a promotional tool though. Also - free downloads spread the word very well.. :)
(, Mon 13 Oct 2008, 12:26, archived)
# Just put bits up?
How?

Look, sorry but I don't understand what the fuck you're talking about.
(, Mon 13 Oct 2008, 12:27, archived)
# Edit some of the tastiest morsels of the songs...
put them up with better quality.

If people want to hear the rest, they can go and get the EP...
(, Mon 13 Oct 2008, 12:30, archived)
# Oh I see.
Free downloads involves paid for hosting and website space, I take it. That'll have to wait until I'm not financially screwed.
(, Mon 13 Oct 2008, 12:31, archived)
# Not necessarily...
you're vaguely post-rock, yes?

Speak to Barry at Lost Children - they did the first T.S.R. album. The EP was hosted by a fanzine that I'm friends with - use your friends until they bleed.
(, Mon 13 Oct 2008, 12:33, archived)
# I don't have any fanzine friends.
Basically, there is no scene left around here. Sigh. Also, don't know what lost children is, the internet's not being forthcoming. Never mind.

I wish I had friends like yours though, but it's just going to be all band graft if we can get anything done.

Oh, I've just found Lost Children's website. Hmmm... I'm not sure, really. Sort of makes me ask what's in it for them.

edit: Hang on, they've got upcdownc on one of their compilations. If they're nonprofit, how come upcdownc's album is available to buy for money? I own a copy. Fucking hell, this is too fucking confusing.
(, Mon 13 Oct 2008, 12:37, archived)
# Well, it helped us get a lot of publicity and some decent gigs...
the guy who's running it has his own band on there as well, so I think what's in it for them is more exposure for their own stuff while promoting loads of other bands...

The other option of course is last.fm...

EDIT: released under creative commons law... Up C used it as promo before releasing a hard copy of the album that people could pay for. They also sulked about me using their amp once, even though I love their music, I haven't forgiven them for sulking.
(, Mon 13 Oct 2008, 12:40, archived)
# Again, I'm a bit suspicious.
I'd like to get everything copyrighted first, really. I don't trust people, I've had music nicked before.

I'm sure they're lovely, but I'm just frightened of enterring into that sort of relationship with anyone without lawyers and contracts.

edit: see, this is why I like lawyers. I've not got the right sort of brain for this.
(, Mon 13 Oct 2008, 12:42, archived)
# Once it's published on the net, you have total copyright control over it.
There is proof of a publication date etc. That said, I've given everything away free so far anyway, so anyone who's wanted to use it is welcome to - even so I've yet to find anything particularly suspicious about it...

Last.fm is the other way of doing things as it's a bit better than myspace - build your band's page and upload away...
(, Mon 13 Oct 2008, 12:47, archived)
# Again, lawyers and contracts.
I just know I won't read all the small print on those sorts of sites, and then it'll transpire that they own everything and badness. Possibly.

I'm just frightened of losing all my and my bands' intellectual property to the great god of intercapitalism. Worst case scenario, I know, but I'm a pessimist.
(, Mon 13 Oct 2008, 12:49, archived)
# Crikey...
And yet you've got a Myspace?

Have a word with the Lost Children bloke, I'm sure he'll do more to put your mind at rest than I can...
(, Mon 13 Oct 2008, 12:53, archived)
# I didn't put the songs on myspace.
Hence me saying I'm just bass and arts, I really am.

It still worries me now, but I suppose I've got to get over it. It's only crotchless-knickered 14 year olds that get proper record deals these days.
(, Mon 13 Oct 2008, 12:57, archived)
# Proper record deals?
fuck that! DIY is the future...
