No-one actually believes that bollocks about storks bringing them do they?
(, Wed 15 Oct 2008, 0:25, archived)

too true
and the desktop machines aren't any better
(, Tue 14 Oct 2008, 23:53, archived)
# Desktops are easy to fix (and build yourself)
Laptops are harder to fix, and thus it's worth buying a good one from the start. Alas, I made that mistake.

# Dell desktops are incredibly well made
(, Wed 15 Oct 2008, 0:51, archived)
# maybe we just thrash the shit out of them, then

cause I've seen a goodly number of hardware failures, and when I look up techie forums they're pretty widely reported faults
(, Wed 15 Oct 2008, 0:54, archived)
# Fair enough then.
I repair/maintain/upgrade PCs for a living and I'm always full of glee when I get a Dell because they're real easy to take apart/reassemble/add stuff to, reliable with very sturdy cases.
It's always easier to find reports of a manufacturer being shit than it is to find reports of the same manufacturer being great.

but I'm afraid I'll turn into one of the Jehovahs
Witness style eulogising tossers that seems
to go hand in hand with ownership.
(, Wed 15 Oct 2008, 0:08, archived)
# Heh.
Like the rest of life, if you dig around enough you'll find there's some nice Jehovah's Witnesses probably.

The loudest ones are the ones heard most frequently (or something like that).

# I can then run both OS X and Windows, as well as linux, unix
etc. etc.

As a student I get £250 off, and a nice laptop. Best of all worlds.

Cheap laptop generally means broken or slow laptop (as I have found out a couple of times).
