yep
the best technique is to go close to the monitor then slowly back away while slightly crossing your eyes, you should find that after about 30 seconds the picture pops out at you.

yes, larger pics are better because some of the required cells are in the periphery of the retina
It's still possible with smaller pics, but larger ones are much easier to see.
