# We like the 'n's, we do.
The words for 'Rabbit' and 'Queen' are way too similar. Or at least they were for me...

# I saw Let The Right One In
the other night -- last night I think -- anyway hat was in some Swedish language or something like that - it was beautiful.

Who would have though the words SCREAM PIGGY could be so musical and heart warming.

# Is it worth seeing?
(, Wed 22 Apr 2009, 16:41, archived)
# I thought so
it is not frightening but it is very slowly paced (beautifully so) and the final scene is so very very good that it makes the whole film...

also - it's a completely new take on a vampire film which I find endearing
(, Wed 22 Apr 2009, 16:44, archived)
# Oh, vampires
not interested now. I'm so BORED of vampires.
(, Wed 22 Apr 2009, 16:47, archived)

this is different. Wonderfully so. It's about as far from Twilight and Underworld as it is possible to get.

# not something to buy over the internet
You have to handle them, to see if they feel right
(, Wed 22 Apr 2009, 16:45, archived)
# Sure they are,
just piss off a chef and get them to stab you. Do it enough and you'll have a full set in no time.
(, Wed 22 Apr 2009, 16:46, archived)
# OK - You got me there.
Max my BUPA billing out for the year, though....
(, Wed 22 Apr 2009, 16:46, archived)
# No, no they're not
I know this as I've been buying Sabatier one by one on what measly amount I can scrape from my less than 17 grand per annum.
(, Wed 22 Apr 2009, 16:48, archived)
# Ooh, I have those!
I am incredibly lucky to have aquired a pretty large/useable set. See also 'le crueset'. I'm a very lucky girl, and the Prof is very lucky to be dating me ;)
(, Wed 22 Apr 2009, 16:52, archived)
# I haven't acquired anything, save a pan from my ex land lord
that was his grandma's. I've finally found a split prong metal masher though, after a good 7 years of searching.

# *checks*
Approximately 820 Euros, 550 UK pounds.

I'm not buying it
(, Wed 22 Apr 2009, 16:45, archived)
# It's a nice set, but it's bit pricey.
have you looked at Wusthof? Or Henckel professional?
(, Wed 22 Apr 2009, 16:43, archived)
# I already own that set
I just want to make sure I'm not giving tat to my best friend
(, Wed 22 Apr 2009, 16:46, archived)
# Oh, it's not tat - by no means.
Just not a good price for the set.
(, Wed 22 Apr 2009, 16:47, archived)
# Well I paid £30 for the lot
and it all seems pretty genuine, so I'm a happy nijntje
(, Wed 22 Apr 2009, 16:49, archived)
# £30?
Can you get another one?

*gets out wallet*
(, Wed 22 Apr 2009, 16:51, archived)
# I certainly can
There's a great 'cook shop' just opened in our shopping centre, they've got some crazy offers on to try and get known and selling stuff before the rent catches up like it did to their predecessor ;)

If you really want one I'll go back tomorrow and aquire it.
(, Wed 22 Apr 2009, 16:54, archived)
# I'll paypal you the mullah - call you later.
*mwah*

You total star!

# Most high priced knife sets
have been counterfeited and are the sort that appear on markets in briefcases.
Usually you can tell they are fake by the fact that the name and blade type is on each blade as with the original but they are a transfer that easily scratches off.
(, Wed 22 Apr 2009, 17:10, archived)
# Sound pretty fake to me though...
(, Wed 22 Apr 2009, 17:19, archived)
# Nah, they're not
They're from a Dutch (company) cook shop, not a market, they have access to the stock and would lose their tenancy in a pretty exclusive area if they sold anything less than genuine.
(, Wed 22 Apr 2009, 17:33, archived)
# Okay
Then I'd go for it before they start selling them at the regular price ;)
(, Wed 22 Apr 2009, 18:13, archived)
# fooking hell
I can get just as good down the road in Marlow
(, Wed 22 Apr 2009, 16:44, archived)

# A nice little man bag :)
(, Wed 22 Apr 2009, 16:46, archived)
# what do you need them for?
you'd probably only ever use about three of them unless you were a sushi chef
EDIT: /qualified chef
(, Wed 22 Apr 2009, 16:47, archived)
# You never know which knife you will need, when you go to stab someone
(, Wed 22 Apr 2009, 16:48, archived)
# the meat fork
then or possibly the small fish knife, the others aren't pointy enough, they're more for slashing
(, Wed 22 Apr 2009, 16:50, archived)
# Looks pretty good
although for that price, I'd be happy to buy a couple of cheaper sets, use them till they go blunt, and get another one in ;)
(, Wed 22 Apr 2009, 16:49, archived)
# ^ this....
Wise words, that man.

# I have a chef friend
who has owned restaurants for 20 years including 10 years on the Strand in London and he put me on to Sabatier knives about 15 years ago.
More than capable for the professional or home use and not ridiculously overpriced.

I'd be more inclined to suggest these for home use. Paying £500 for a set of knives is something not even most professionals will bother with.

Kings, Queens and Hares.
Is it the same in Dutchspeak?
(, Wed 22 Apr 2009, 16:40, archived)
# No.
koning = king
koningin = queen
konijn = rabbit
haas = hare
(, Wed 22 Apr 2009, 16:41, archived)
# Oops
It IS the same.
I got my rabbits and my hares mixed up which I usually don't have a problem with.
See? The rest look so similar!

# I totally see what you mean though

Funny thing is, I never considered them related or similar, until now
