Last night I had a chat with the tech support guys at BT Openworld to get all the details for the free web space that came with my ADSL connection, as part of my rathergood server spreading project. I asked them how much bandwidth I could transfer, and they said it was genuinely unlimited. I said I may be transferring around a hundred gigs a month, and they didn't flinch for a moment. In the tech support guy's words, it may not stay this way for ever, but currently they are not capping data transfer. Does anyone know if this is just plain wrong? Assuming they told me the truth, I suggest you all go out and get BT Openworld ADSL connections, if only for the unlimited bandwidth from the web space you get. Woo!

I've got BT openworld, I share it with my flatmate through proxy server. If you like I could ask him nicely for half of it, I don't know how much space they give tho. crab bloke, if you're interested, send me an email and I could host some stuff for you.

They give you 20megs of disk space- not very much but it's fine for my purposes- I have several flash files which will easily fit into that- the problem is that they each get large umbers of downloads, so it's bandwidth rather than disk space which is the limitation. I'm going to try shifting everything onto it today, and see if it works. Woo!

is that they have a vast amount of resources set up for the broadband revolution, and take-up hasn't been high enough to cause them any issues yet. That's what it sounds like anyway. I'm assuming that one day they'll collar me, but it sounds like it should work for now. Hey-ho, I'll transfer all my stuff, and keep you posted if I get nasty letters from them.
Woo!

I'm on BT myself and they don't seem to have any bandwidth issues at the moment. I've got a very picture-heavy site going which gets 500+ hits a day, and they've never complained.
They give you 50MB space on anytime, but only 20MB on broadband, which is a small pain. The only other problem is that I've never been able to access their FTP server unless I'm dialled-up to BT. Can't do it remotely. Can't do it via FTP commands in a browser either - and that means difficulty with posting up anything at work.
Of course, if anyone -does- know a way, please let me know what it is!

not illegal, probably immoral. Naaah, it's never bothered me before, but I'm sure it could be done with the return IP address the FTP server would request

"What's Out -
Getting in at 9.00 or even worse later
Leaving early to take care of personal things (we all have Saturdays, Sundays and Days Off for that)
Surfing the net - wont earn you a penny (even if it is a client's web site)
Reading joke emails
Conversing with friends by email - why don't you just get on the phone to them - because you know it's wrong!
Sharing jpegs and mpegs with colleagues
Discussing last nights TV
Discussing tonight's TV
Take 1+ hours for lunch
Taking snide sick days because you had a skin full the night before
Holding non-work related discussions whilst others are trying to work (which is all day!)"
Well you'll be pleased to know I resigned and today is my last day. See you from the dole queue next week!
