To celebrate my first full week of moving to London, what better way to do it than organising a QOTW OT bash.If anyone knows any good venues in West London, that would be great, but Central London would be fine as well. It's going to be in Central London. UPDATE: It's now The Yorkshire Grey
Also, should this be just an evening/night bash or an all-day bash?

you tease me with all these attendance come ones then you leave me at home wanking by myself.

I'm pretty sure i'll be able to make this one.
Stop judging me!

i'm going to be brave and join you all :)

I wholeheartedly approve of a central/west Laaaahndan meet.
Hope to see you all there
( , Fri 3 Oct 2008, 22:02, Reply)
Depending on my plans.
I'm certainly in London that day though.
( , Fri 3 Oct 2008, 22:24, Reply)
if I actually *can* make this but fuck it, it's about time you all realised just how unreliable I am.
( , Sat 4 Oct 2008, 22:21, Reply)
this is about the 4th bash i've signed up for, but i really am going to this one because i'll be in london anyway for the holy fuck gig :)

After consulting the work diary I realise I must drop out - I have a wedding to go to instead.
Stupid people committing the rest of their lives to each other. It makes me sick.
( , Mon 6 Oct 2008, 10:56, Reply)
I would like to stick to central london, if possible....
( , Mon 6 Oct 2008, 17:46, Reply)
my very best to come to this one. Depends on finances but I didn't come to the last one so I'll do my best!

if I can persuade one of my London-based friends to let me crash on their floor
( , Wed 8 Oct 2008, 16:59, Reply)
were it not for the fact I don't have a floor of my own. I'll most likely still be staying in a hotel at the time.
( , Wed 8 Oct 2008, 23:23, Reply)
After consulting my useless friends, none of them are actually in London that weekend...
Will the bash be anywhere near a Hilton? If I push it through my work account, I can get rooms there for £stupid cheap...
( , Thu 9 Oct 2008, 7:56, Reply)
If we're going to be in central London, then the Hiltons in Trafalgar Square or Green Park would probably be your best bet.
( , Sun 12 Oct 2008, 17:45, Reply)
....so good. Unless something crops up, I shall be attending.
( , Thu 9 Oct 2008, 7:28, Reply)
We could be boring and go to The Cardinal again. It is a nice place and may not be too crowded on a Saturday night.
We should possibly avoid places like Covent Garden cos they'll be packed.
What about some pubs closer to the City? They might be less busy at the weekend. Anyone familiar with them?
There's also The Cornwallis which is next to Russell Square tube station. Not sure about its busyness on a Saturday, but it's a nice pub.
That's my tuppenceworth.
( , Sun 12 Oct 2008, 12:28, Reply)
I don't mind going to the Cardinal again. I don't know West London at all, and I'm happy with Central London. I'm not too fond of the Cornwallis coz the music drowns out the conversation there. A City pub is OK if anyone wants to make a suggestion.
But so far, my vote is for the Cardinal.
( , Sun 12 Oct 2008, 15:57, Reply)
The pub next to Liverpool St Station?
It's
a) fucking enormous
b) without music
c) cheap esp. for a city pub
d) adjacent to a big station on several tube lines
e) *ahem* down the road from my house
( , Mon 13 Oct 2008, 14:26, Reply)
That it gets really fucking busy on the weekends...
And seems to have a lack of tables.
( , Mon 13 Oct 2008, 14:37, Reply)
DOWN THE ROAD FROM MY HOUSE.
I think we're all agreed, then.
No? Ah well.
( , Mon 13 Oct 2008, 14:53, Reply)
You ARE all midgets, aren't you?
Don't mind standing on each other's shoulders to make space? Less than 5 of you?
Good, Chateaux Monty is open to you all....

( , Mon 13 Oct 2008, 15:49, Reply)
Pure awesomeness.
That is all.
Also, come to Victoria.
If you get lost I can meet you at the station.
( , Mon 13 Oct 2008, 15:51, Reply)
I get on OK at the clap clinic I'm there.
*realises use of private joke has ruined chances of 'pulling'*
( , Mon 13 Oct 2008, 16:14, Reply)
There is the possibility that clap-related issues may poleaxe my plans to attend but there, I've only gone and SIGNED UP.
You can prepare a press release to that effect. The venue will also have to be warned so that extra security can be drafted.
Thank you.
( , Tue 14 Oct 2008, 8:48, Reply)
...no problems there. Drixy is right that we should avoid the busier area like Covent Garden.
( , Mon 13 Oct 2008, 6:57, Reply)
Should we just keep this as an evening/night bash or is anyone up for the afternoon as well?
I may or may not be doing something that afternoon myself (the may or may not-ness depends on whether or not this bash becomes an afternoon-bash).
( , Mon 13 Oct 2008, 23:12, Reply)
if anyone else is.
I'm not doing anything in particular on Saturday, apart from hopping on Chiltern Railways' finest to Marylebone, so whenever other people can make it, I can.

( , Tue 14 Oct 2008, 7:59, Reply)
Is several hundred kinds of win!
*grins*
Only downside is it might be a little, tiny, teeny bit busy...
( , Tue 14 Oct 2008, 14:40, Reply)
I have gazzed Spakko and told him to decide. We can then blame him for any negative aspects of our evening, including achingly loud music, busyness, excessive vomit and criminal charges. (Note that a little vomit and criminal-activity-without-being-caught-by-Plod are not negative aspects.)
I'm out to afternoon tea on Saturday cos I'm posh and I'll fucking batter anyone who claims differently.
But I'll be there in the evening, chasing my crustless sandwiches with beer.
( , Tue 14 Oct 2008, 14:45, Reply)
am quite looking forward to meeting some of you.
Some of you I have no idea who you are. But I am sure you'll be lovely too.
( , Tue 14 Oct 2008, 14:56, Reply)
Before an angry mob forms to demand a venue location, I'll provisionally choose the Cardinal as it's got an excellent track record of hosting b3ta-bashes. If anyone wants to go to the Interpid Fox or some other venue instead, I'll change my mind if the shouts are loud enough.
( , Tue 14 Oct 2008, 20:29, Reply)
But I've had a nasty case of The Fear every time I've been to the Cardinal.
Also, I've been sober both times, so maybe that's the like...
*shrugs*
I'd be up for a change of scene, but see what others say.
I'd never say no to the Fox, but it's a little "metal" for some people.
( , Tue 14 Oct 2008, 20:51, Reply)
From now on, no one is allowed to say no to venues unless they have a good alternative.
Lord! Nine gillion London pubs and we're all clueless.
Fox busyness on a Saturday night? Anyone? I've only been there during the day...
( , Tue 14 Oct 2008, 21:10, Reply)
We won't get a table. Or seats.
Plus they don't let you in if you don't look "alternative enough" :p
( , Tue 14 Oct 2008, 21:36, Reply)
Well I still stand by my two suggestions then. Cardinal most people know and Cornwallis is near tubes and buses and we can drink outside.
Spak, I think that making a decision and then putting that you're open to alternatives* isn't going to work.
*There's only ever one alternative - lots of options, but only one alternative.

As there seems to be a preference for cheap beer and good atmosphere The Yorkshire Grey is a nice Sam Smith's pub near Oxford Circus. It's usually quiet on the weekends as it's a little of the beaten track.
Nice outside area for the addicts amongst us and good for transport links.
Thoughts?

Sounds good to me!
Sam Smiths= cheap!
Anyone ever comes up to Leeds, I shall take you all to the Angel, which is the Smith's pub there.
( , Wed 15 Oct 2008, 13:17, Reply)
Feels nicely Fitzrovia, whatever that means to you. The place clearly attracts a BBC crowd and, in such a narrow little spot, can feel crowded when busy (where doesn't?!) but the lager's good, there's atmosphere and, ignoring the geeks, there's little to fault.
I wonder what they'd think if they knew a bunch of internet geeks were planning on using it as a meeting point?
( , Wed 15 Oct 2008, 13:33, Reply)
Well, if you scroll down those reviews a few more you'll see some people talking about the Nintendo DS meetup that used to happen in there every other Saturday. The staff there are used to strange internet meetups.

Forgot to add, no obnoxiously loud background music so will be conversation friendly!
( , Wed 15 Oct 2008, 13:34, Reply)
And if it's too crowded there are a million other pubs around that area we could decamp to.
( , Wed 15 Oct 2008, 15:20, Reply)
so could some kind soul gaz me their number in case i get lost trying to get to this pub?
this is my first b3ta bash, argh!
( , Wed 15 Oct 2008, 17:22, Reply)
Its near where I work, so I know the area well and won't get lost.
And as someone else said, there are tonnes of other places nearby if for some reason people decide to move on.
( , Wed 15 Oct 2008, 17:44, Reply)
And due to popular demand the venue shall now be The Yorkshire Grey.
( , Wed 15 Oct 2008, 22:33, Reply)
How are the b3ta masses going to be identifying one another (for those that haven't been to a whole bunch of the bashes already)?
( , Wed 15 Oct 2008, 16:30, Reply)
wear my cock top again, its the only one in the world, so not likely to be mistaken.
( , Wed 15 Oct 2008, 16:53, Reply)
"Cock-Top"?
That sounds like an amazing insult...
"Oi! Jim, stop being such a cock-top and come out to the pub tonight!"
I'll be dressed as standard.
Leather jacket of some kind.
Dark jeans and t shirt.
Army boots.
( , Wed 15 Oct 2008, 23:20, Reply)
Its not the same as the Cock-Top I sent The Loon, in fact it is 100% different. But Its all of the aceness.
( , Thu 16 Oct 2008, 11:38, Reply)
...although I figured I'd somehow just 'know'.
( , Wed 15 Oct 2008, 17:45, Reply)
I'll be wearing the same outfit I've worn to several London bashes (but for some reason, I've never worn it to an outside of London bash). See past QOTW OT bash pics for a pic.
( , Wed 15 Oct 2008, 22:36, Reply)
I've looked at the pictures on flickr now.
I think I'll recognise at least one of you - Kaol, don't be late or I'm screwed!
( , Thu 16 Oct 2008, 14:48, Reply)
Especially if there's anyone coming in on the Chiltern Line to Marylebone, feel free to gaz me and you can have my number.
( , Wed 15 Oct 2008, 22:14, Reply)
He just wants to get your number so he can use it for an impromptu sex-chat line. Don't make the same gloriously satisfying yet sordidly wrong mistake I did.
( , Thu 16 Oct 2008, 13:28, Reply)
I can also be GAZd for a mobile number.
I have given lots of people directions here on prior visits so am getting quite good at it.

i am going to a gig at 8.30pm-ish, so it would be nice for me, heh, if the bash started early, around 6 or so. :)
( , Fri 17 Oct 2008, 0:30, Reply)
I'll try and get there early. I've given you my phone number so you can txt me if you don't recognise anyone.
Anyone else want to go an hour early?
( , Fri 17 Oct 2008, 13:34, Reply)
My company's London office is on Broadwick Street, only about 5-10 min walk from the Yorkshire Grey.
I'll go to the office for about 4.30ish, do what I need to do then I'll head over.

Gutted I'm missing it but free booze, food and weddingy goodness is too much to turn down.
( , Thu 16 Oct 2008, 13:29, Reply)
As some people want to come early, I've moved the start time back an hour. Please feel free to come at the original start-time or whenever you planned on arriving, but if you are leaving early or want to chat with the early arrivals, you may want to come earlier.
