This is a link post A link that is now going to be close to my heart, and i dont mean my nipple
Very recently i had to have a prostate exam and when i say the Dr had fingers like E fucking T i realy do mean like E.T. Part of that requierd a blood test and the results would be due in 10 days or so, any way after a only 3 days the Drs phoned me and told they had made an apointment for as there were abnormalitys in my blood.
Needles to say this was just a little worrying and several possible scenarios passed through my noggin as i wonder what it could be.

On the morning of my appointment i was not in the best frame of mind and come lunch time i was possitivly bricking it, Any way i got to the surgery and got called into the room, deep breath keep a focus on something positive and Listen to what you are about to be told , i said to my self.

I was asked if i ever kept getting up to go loo in the night, or did i find my self scratching my self a lot, did i gget blurry vission or did any cuts or scratches seem to take a long time to heal and was there any problem with my memmory or concentration?
yes
yes
yes
yes
yes the list goes on but you get the gist.
after several mins of asking me about my health and general well being , i was told that i now have Type 2 Diabetes and that every thing i had answerd yes to was symptomatic of the disease
even down to lack of coordination between brain and fingers when typeing.
So far it has been just over a week and after making some changes to food and drink, even my wife has noticed that i SOMETIMES seem more lucid and with it than before and definate improvements have shown in my temprament and i am not such a grumpy misserable old cantankerous bastard.
Further investigation is needed , and i have to go back in september for more blood tests to check and see if i can be diet or tablet/injection controlled .

Looking back over the last year or two, i can see now that the signs were there to be picked up on but one problem with Diabetes is that affects your brain function and although generaly i can recall quite a lot that has happend there is no detail or recall for much of what i have done, which is kinda scarey .
On a positive note Genital scratching is a symptom that i didnt have thankfully it just turns out i like to fondle/grope/touch my self, a lot so thats ok.

Bit of a long un and appols for tha lack of funnys but some times its nice to get these things of your chest, even if you are names on a monitor.
Thanks

This is a normal post Diagnosis good.
Diabetes bad.

Still, at least it wasn't the diagnosis I was expecting halfway through the post.

This is a normal post I can say with all hoesty that those few mins asking me about this, that and everything else
realy did seem to be getting to a some what worryingly outcome, so i was relieved and in a way that it was Type 2 diabetes and nothing more sinister.

on a brighter note the recepionist did have a very nice and slightly to tight blouse and great tits so it wasnt a total shit out day

This is a normal post Don't be too worried about the memory or concentration thing. It's just symptomatic of low blood sugar, which makes you tired....nowt wrong with your brain.
Unlikely to need insulin with type 2, but not unheard of.

Just eat a balanced diet, get exercise and try not to be too fat. And good luck, sunshine.

i tell you the power of death is seriously over looked in modern medical treatments, it realy is the cure for things

This is a normal post I would recommend homeopathic death.
I feel so full of life now that I take pills containing an immeasurably small dose of death.

So potent and effective that you are only allowed to buy them and then take them via a download on your phone by simply licking a QR code on the screen .

This is a normal post Aye. That's why (after a few decades) the day after...
.. not drinking 10 pints is really hard. The body tends to get used to the calories, even if they are meaningless. You expect to snap out of it and become this lightning sharp mind demon, instead. Instead you need go to bed. But you can't, because you are at work. Hip Flasks.

Same here. Beware changing your diet and cutting out sugar, don't make the same mistake I did by eating pasties, sausage rolls etc to counter the feeling of hunger. I found cutting them out as well as bread helped enormously. This is against the docs guidlines which they spout because they have to because of NIICE. Diabetes.co.uk helped with diet. I personally recommend a more protein like diet but again don't go all Atkins diet. You can do a lot with diet. Question the doctors advice and demand alternatives.

Edit
Cut the carbs down, aim for no more than 30gms per meal. Forget diabetic sweets, biscuits etc. It's the carbs that turn into all the sugar you don't want.

another edit.
Doing this I lost 2 stone, that 28 pounds to Merkins in just 6 months.
Feel a lot better and am now under control and considered in remission.

This is a normal post Welcome to the club, we have cake.
Well we used to but it's all rice crackers now...

I'll tell you what I got told and found out for myself for what it's worth.

Get your medical exemption certificate.
You are now the proud owner of a chronic illness!
That means no more paying prescription charges, eye tests etc.

You'll be assigned a diabetic nurse to keep an eye on you.
They will likely prescribe you metformin.
Metformin is good, causes you to loose weight and has been shown to slow down the ageing process in lab mice.
If you are prescribed statins BEWARE.
There are many types and a lot have nasty side effects.
Leg cramps
back pain (sciatica)
Memory loss (avoid the ones that can cross the blood brain barrier)
Try and get a self testing kit off the nurse, feedback on your blood sugar levels is key to control.

As soon as you say "type 2" people will assume you are a porker, even if you're wasting away. Get used to that. But you might have to cut down on the beer. Say hello to your new friend vodka.

Apparently everything turns to sugar in the end even carbs.

Don't go to the extreme in reducing sugar either because you can go too far.
Tell your other half if you're ever acting pissed but haven't been drinking it might be a hypoglycemia attack. People have died in police cells because of this. In this event the best thing in the world is a piece of toast with jam on it.

Good luck and remember it's better than bum cancer.

This is a normal post ^^Best summary of NIDDM on the interwebs.
To which I'd add that if you ARE a porker, have a look at the results of bariatric surgery. Weirdly the DM switches off before you lose enough weight to account for insulin receptors recovering.

This is a normal post Got a little bit of a belly but nothing obese
I suspect it was the excessive beer and little sleep that caused the Type 2.
