This is a normal post Is there a law
stating that all how-to videos must be 12 times longer than they need to be?

This is a normal post Yes. There’s also a US federal statute that they must all start with “hey guys!”
I wish someone would train an AI to convert how-to videos into pages of illustrated instructions.

For me it’s worst for game guides. Sometimes I want to find every little collectible and all I can find is a ten minute video instead of the screenshot of the map with a circle on it, which is all I really needed.

This is a normal post Just use the visual search and scroll through the video
handy when they haven't bothered with chapters

This is a normal post Information like this belongs in a diagram or illustrated guide,
but I wouldn't trust AI to create procedures for humans to follow until it gets a little more I.

This is a normal post Like there is a law stating that all tech connected video makers
have to use the phrase "Let's get started"

This is a normal post The algorithm rewards you for making longer content.
Therefore 5s of information is conveyed in 12 minutes.

I seem to remember the cutoff for monetisation was 20 minutes, which is why you always saw videos of 20 minutes and 10 seconds or so - in case YouTube's re-encoding fuckery shortened it under the cutoff.

This is a normal post 20 mins used to be
The length a video had to be before it got midroll ads shoved in it, so the "just over 20 minute" videos were creators essentially opting-in to midroll ads (and the extra revenue)

Of course these days, youtube will happily shovel 2 sets of midroll ads into a 6 minute video whether you like it or not.

I tried to watch something without adblock recently, and I swear there were more minutes of unskippable ads than there were actual uploaded content

This is a normal post The current rule is 8 minutes if you want mid-roll ad monetization.
So the slop content creators all tend to put out videos just over 8mins long.

This is a normal post It wouldn’t be so bad…
…if nine out of ten of the ads I’ve seen recently weren’t for that fucking Sonic the Hedgehog film.

I'd forgotten there were ads on Youtube until I tried using it on a Fire Stick.
My. God. Never again.
