80s Number 1 intros
I made this!
As requested in the newsletter here are the first 10 seconds of all 191 number 1 hits of the 1980s.
The full list is on Wikipedia
All done with scripts and no fancy editing so it sounds a bit rough in places.
Edit: Looks like it's all out of bandwidth and it won't let me change the url, so have a mirror.

Yay!
Best from 2.45-3.10
EDIT: that Kraftwerk song is a bit odd, amongst all that early-82 cheese...
EDIT-EDIT: 24:51 comes like the most long-awaited punchline of all time

Sir:- You just rolled the years back for me.
I'm still listening to it as I write, I just hit the pause button to comment & *click* 'cos you obviously put a lot of effort into this. I'm doin' well, so far there's only been TWO I couldn't identify. I could easily look it up on WIKI but I figured I'd "Quiz" meself & have some fun.
Good one.

That's what you get
when you use low quality mp3s as your source material and then re-compress the whole lot to standardise the format.
I could have done it better but I'm lazy and like using scripts it would have taken 10x the time!

A flashback to my teens
Brilliant. I'd forgotten how much variety there was in music back then, and how quickly bands released new singles.

Radio
It's how I remember commercial FM radio, frantically turning the dial while muttering 'phuq it, there MUST be something good in here somewhere'. I mostly listen to spoken word these days.

Pink Floyd, "Another Brick in the Wall, pt.3" was number from for 5 weeks starting in mid December 1979, so, it was number one for 3 weeks in 1980.
Not that Wikipedia's ever wrong, but, I'm just sayin'...
