So what happens when five members of a 'puerile digital website,' visit the big cats at the Cat Survival Trust? Well, happy times of course! I went down there today with evil andy, godsavethequeen, HappyToast, and wheresthefish where we had the place to ourselves; no better way to meet the cats in the peace and quiet of Hertfordshire countryside.
Shot with a Canon 5D2 and an EF16-35L II.
Shot in HD btw, so enjoy it big! :)

Especially if you've been handling raw chicken.

Cheers for a fantastic day. I'm digging through the photos now and I'll chuck a link to any good ones here soon(ish).
Edit: Right then, here's a few...

I love the fish-eye ones. I think my wish list just got a bit longer...

This place is extraordinary. I mean b3ta.
The amount of consistently genuinely lovely people I have met off this 'puerile digital website,' over the years is far out of proportion than I would have imagined things to be concerning the internet.
I have met people who are now very real, solid mates. And it's always lovely to introduce people to that place. A shame Terry wasn't around, but you got to meet some of the feline characters and experience how lovely they are.

Even if you have doomed me to one day owning one...

Seriously, it is miles apart from anything similar by Sigma, Nikon or who ever. Canon's L-/4 replacement isn't making happy fans

I'm not sure whether that counts as voting for myself or not.
That pygmy black panther was a vicious bastard by the way. He almost had my hand off...

First batch of photos is up: Flickr photoset. More to follow in the morning.

I left that on the cutting room floor as to not tarnish our macho online identities

Noone needs to see me crying and soiling myself on the internet.
Unless they've paid

Do they still get exposed to a lot of human interaction and if so what happens to their little brains?

In the wild snow leopards are very solitary; but it's their environment that makes them so. In captivity they are much more sociable. The long term plan is to concentrate on breeding these guys and then re-introduce their decedents to a safe reservation in India where they will be free from persecution by humans or conflict with farmers; at which point their off-spring will have no human contact what so ever. Step by step though.

Animal-human interaction fascinates me.
Fairly solitary creatures, like even housecats, seem fine to stay in a kitten-like social state for their entire lives with us and even things like falcons can be made sociable.
Maybe they just all want a friend, aawww. Especially the komodo dragons, komodos want friends.
Fuck your big cats, it's decided, I'm gonna breed komodos and video myself hugging them!

First chance I get to head down to the CST I'll be there. Hopefully if all goes ok with days off and holidays I should be able to get to the bash. I'm not talented enough to have anything for auction unfortunately unless they invent the Harry potter style movie photographs before then. ;)

and also would be lovely to show you around the CST when you can. We've almost finished building the new cat house at which point things should really take off.
