This is a link post The Closing Ceremony is now on iPlayer (apologies if unavailable outside UK).
The thing itself was hit and miss but better than anything I could have come up with so I won't moan.

However, the best bit that I want to draw attention to is how Mr Lamine Diack presents the flowers to the marathon winners. This had me in stitches last night and should cheer up everyone's Monday. Link should jump to the correct point (1 hour in).

This is a normal post When Kate Bush, David Bowie
and even Nicholas Lyndhurst didn't show up to this one, I bet the Queen thought "What? I could have just said no to that Bond sketch."

This is a normal post I pissed myself when they got prince harrys name wrong. Not just in the commentary
but also on the screen. Fucktards.

This is a normal post Some bits were ok, some bits had me on my feet shouting at the tv.
The salute to supermodels and the fashion industry really rankled.

A medley of Bowie recordings was dreadful - it was like one of those really choppy mixes switching between umpteen songs that they favour for local radio idents.

I like Elbow so their inclusion was good. What I really like about them is how Garvey looks as though he should be playing darts in a pub or working as an estate agent instead of singing like he does.

Brian May had a jacket with a fox badge and a badger badge on. That was good.

This is a normal post I tried to watch it
but I got as far as the Del Boy/Batman bit and had to turn over before I hurled something though the screen.

Flicked past it again a bit later to see what I was missing. Turned out I was missing George Michael. I can live with that.

This is a normal post The Delboy stuff was so strange.
They should also have got that Peter Kay tribute act man to perform if they want to disappoint people who like populist entertainment, infuriate those who don't and confuse non-Brits.

This is a normal post I once met the person
who had planned the advertising campaign for Crazy Frog. Supposedly, she had told the client that they were spending too much money and would be on air non-stop for months, but they wouldn't listen.

Naturally, I still beat her to death with my bare hands.

This is a normal post I did like his flower presentations
"HERE ARE YOUA GAY FLOWAS".

That was the most entertaining bit. Ray Davies won against the Beatle in terms of being able to still hold a tune, but Daltrey proved he's still got it.

Look at the history of the guy who directed it :

Ryder Cup Opening Concert - Katherine Jenkins (Sept 2010)
Help for Heroes Concert - Twickenham Stadium (Sept 2010)
Dancing on Ice Tour - Opening Sequence (April 2010)
Katherine Jenkins Believe UK Arena Tour (March 2010)
Take That – The Circus UK Stadium Tour (June/July 2009)
Dancing On Ice Tour – Opening Bolero Sequence (April 2009)
2012 Olympic Torch Party (August 2008)
Viva La Diva - Theatre and Arena Tour (2007/2008)
Take That - Beautiful World Arena Tour (2007)
Concert For Diana - Wembley Stadium (2007)
Elton John’s White Tiara Ball (2006)

Explains the jazz hands & literal interpretive dancing. What a trite load of old horse piss. Just vindicates Boyle as having done a decent job.

This guy got the whole thing down pretty well:

This is a normal post Hmm, that link has certainly changed my mind on it all.
I liked this from the comments:
"I also couldn’t believe it when, after the athletes took longer to get in their pens that planned, the organisers put on the audio from earlier in the show, thereby revealing (a) that it was clearly dubbed and (b) they had no back-up plan for if the athletes should take longer than two Elbow songs to get in position. Major fuck up.

I also think that was was billed as ‘the world’s largest mosh-pit’ ended up looking like the world’s largest kettle – the world’s athletes, penned in by the boys in blue, then forced to watch a display of celebrity and commodity."
(, Mon 13 Aug 2012, 14:24, Reply)
This is a normal post clearly dubbed..
?? Pet Shop Boys and Madness were definitly singing live. The bits later were the studio versions of the songs.
