Demon Core accident #1
As he withdrew his hand, he inadvertently dropped the brick onto the center of the assembly. Since the assembly was nearly in the critical state, the accidental addition of that brick caused the reaction to go immediately into the prompt critical region of neutronic behavior.

Demon Core accident #2
At 3:20 p.m., the screwdriver slipped and the upper beryllium hemisphere fell, causing a "prompt critical" reaction and a burst of hard radiation.[8] At the time, the scientists in the room observed the blue glow of air ionization and felt a heat wave.

Actually the whole story of the Demon Core is worth a read in terms of "things not to do with the business end of an atom bomb"

This is a normal post Fascinating stuff.
I'm pretty amazed at how these guys were just manually interacting with almost-critical masses of this shit.

This is a normal post I used to go down after blasting to log the face in an underground mine, which meant chipping a channel with my g-pick across the midline. It was a bit loose as often the jumbo operator hadn't put any bolts in yet
Had a fortunately minor rockfall that hit my shoulder and helmet (I'm circumcised) tore my shirt, bruised and cut me, though nothing broken. shook me up pretty bad too, though within a few weeks I was back doing the same bad habits, because I didn't like waiting around for them to finish

This is a normal post I was once doing a spot of welding on a car.
It was still on the ground so I was sat with crossed legs and, foolishly, wasn't wearing an apron.

It wasn't until I got home that I spotted the small hole in the crotch of my trousers, two corresponding holes in my pants and a fourth in the seat of my trousers.

After that I thought it best to not fuck around where flying gobbets of red-hot steel are concerned.

This is a normal post Got a hole in my glove while using 10-15% NaOH solution.
The entire fingerprint on my thumb sloughed off over the next couple of days, leaving a smooth red surface which cracked, took weeks to heal.

Technician dropped a Winchester (2.5l) of chloroform, three of us mopped in rotation, changing over as we got too wasted.

This is a normal post I use it for removing warts.
Done carefully, (micro prills placed on top) I get less tissue damage than other methods and far better than the brutal freezing technique. Speed the process up by applying a flame.
