This is a link post Story of the most viewed photograph in history.
This is the story of "Bliss", the photograph that was the default wallpaper for Windows XP and the man to made it. Nice little interview.

The video is kind of slow going, but interesting if you're into photography.

This is a normal post Microsoft sold over a billion XP licenses
Even if only half of them changed their wallpaper that's still a shit-ton of people who saw it every single day of their working lives.

This is a normal post True but Viewed implies people chose to look it at rather than a passive acceptance hidden behind an excel sheet.
By that logic this is the most listened to piece of music in the world

So you take my response and infer that not one of the people who had it as their desktop wallpaper ever looked at it and thought about it in some way? None of them ever formed an opinion on it?

This is a normal post It's only the most 'viewed' photograph in history
because half of humanity were forced to look at it on our Windows desktops. No merit to the photograph whatsoever. It was only used because it doesn't contain anything.

This is a normal post The word 'viewed' does indeed imply choice on behalf of the viewer.

This is a normal post What do you mean, no merit to the photograph?
It was chosen out of countless photographs the billions of people on earth make everyday to be the very face of the most widely distributed operating system at a time in technological history when the personal computer became a standard household item in almost every home in the developed and developing world.

How is that no merit to the photograph?

It contains a rolling hill, a blue sky and clouds. They are the subject of the photograph.

This is a normal post you know when a photograph reminds you of a particular piece of music?
Well for some reason the XP hills music reminds me of the Village theme in Wonderboy in Monster World www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5xMuz_ZRuE
