Our esteemed Foreign Secretary has been proving himself to have all the diplomatic skill of a nuclear bomb.

I would post a "What a cunt" link to Bono who it seems isn't happy with just being a mega rich, international super star celebrity cunt and has now branched out into the Lithuanian retail sector...but I didn't want to spoil everyone's morning.

I've been following this story since last year.
She was training journalists for the BBC's Media Action group.
Those journalists were arrested when they got back home and were jailed in 2014.
Back in 2016 she was arrested trying to leaving Iran and held on secret charges but it's thought that it's down to her training these Iranian journalists back in 2014.
Yes at the time she may well have just been just visiting family, not teaching or speaking to any of her former pupils.
However she was arrested because she had been teaching Iranians journalism.
I love that the fucking social media it jumping on the Boris is a cunt bandwagon without giving a shit before that this woman has been held for a year now for nothing more than journalism.
Maybe the regime that locks up people for thought crimes should be called cunts once in a while?

She's in jail for a decade, the Iranians are a bit angrier, erm...
( , Tue 7 Nov 2017, 11:18, Reply)

Nothing he said to that Select Committee is new to the Iranians.
Fuck it's not even new to me.
She's being held as a political pawn in negotiations and to stop others from daring to train journalists.
She's in jail for as long as they want her in jail.

Bit naive, this is the whole point of international diplomacy, its a subtle art that Borisconi is too self-absorbed to get and is wholly unsuited for. Her guilt or not or the rights and wrongs of the Iranian position might be in question...but Boris' suitability for the post is not.
( , Tue 7 Nov 2017, 12:39, Reply)

This isn't about his suitability it's about a point in fact.
She was training journalists.
Those journalists were imprisoned.
She was imprisoned on hidden charges most likely because she trained those journalists.
No matter who is in that post those details do not change.
All he did was to state the fact that she had trained them.
Was he supposed to keep quite and mislead the Select Committee?
I'm pretty sure that's against the rules.
Now people can use her situation to have a go at Boris or they can start getting angry that a British citizen is being held as a political prisoner.
Because they sure as hell were not a few days ago and she's been rotting there a bloody year.

You’re being wilfully ignorant.
It’s a basic rule of diplomacy that if the government you’re dealing with are cheating, lying scumbags, if you’re after anything then you don’t publicly acknowledge that. The absolute very last thing you do is tell the truth, when the truth will see this womanr locked up for longer.
( , Tue 7 Nov 2017, 13:25, Reply)

Iran are playing a diplomatic game and have ceased on his slip, as any decent government, despotic or not, would do.
Boris made an unforced error, he didn't have to say what he said, while he can't lie he wasn't asked a direct question about it. He even says this himself "we have to be careful about this..." Regardless of it being just a diplomatic power play...he f***ed up.

unless they plan to go to Iran to train some journalists?
Has it not occurred to anyone else that going to a repressive regime to work with people that regime views as dissidents is a fucking stupid idea, and that if one does so then one should not expect much in the way of government assistance?
( , Tue 7 Nov 2017, 13:49, Reply)

Are you really suggesting imprisonment and possible torture of a British national visiting their family is acceptable? Disgraceful.
( , Tue 7 Nov 2017, 13:57, Reply)

and then escaping, and then going back to visit your family, thinking that the government had probably forgotten about your actions, is fucking stupid. Whether it's right or wrong, acceptable or unacceptable, graceful or disgraceful, it's to be expected.
As a person who doesn't go an interfere in despotic regimes (and I think I speak for the majority of people in the UK here) I'd much rather the foreign office was spending time on more mundane things than an idiot with a deathwish.

Should turn a blind eye to brutal torturous regimes that oppress human rights? Maybe you are saying that teaching is bad? You might be saying its open season on anyone working abroad...buyer beware hey.
( , Tue 7 Nov 2017, 15:11, Reply)

We haven't been repeatedly told how the Iranian government are evil fuckers who don't share our values for no reason. It's precisely because of this sort of shit.
It isn't open season on anyone working abroad. But it IS open season on anyone at any time in specific totalitarian countries, especially people working with others deemed to be terrorists by those countries. Iran is one of them.
Thinking that the foreign office is a safety net to protect you from dissident acts within such a country is utterly ludicrous.
( , Tue 7 Nov 2017, 19:34, Reply)

'Torturous regimes that oppress human rights'? We've fucking funded and trained enough of them. 'Teaching is bad'? Well we helped set up the 'schools' that taught and trained the Mujahadeen because those poor oppressed Afghans had been invaded by the big bad Soviets. Look how fucking well that turned out for everyone. And frankly, yeah, if you go to any foreign country that doesn't subscribe to 'Western democracy' with the intent of subverting their government or not following their fuckwitted heathen laws then it pretty much IS Caveat Emptor. Smuggling drugs in a country where that gets you the death penalty? You fucking deserve to be beheaded. Taking your family sailing around the Somali coast? Sorry, too bad that those pirates are using you all as fuckpuppets and then food, but you WERE warned.
Fuck you and the bleeding heart you rode in on you fucking hippy scum.

It is a shame I have to explain this...I don't think eVil thinks these things. There is a habit here of taking a comment made "She was a British citizen teaching students staying in the UK" (for example) then turning this into "ah you think X, Y or Z then don't you? You cunt!" People think it clever but it is just straw manning someones argument...and usually results in tedious TLDR dribble like your reply...which seems to be equating types like Osama Bin Laden with a woman teaching journalism.
( , Wed 8 Nov 2017, 8:14, Reply)

No, no he did not. When he left his comfortable life to go and become a religious nutterist he was hailed as a hero for standing up to Soviet oppressors. Thatcher even invited one of his henchmen to speak at a Tory party conference. Several Western democracies helped Bin Laden become what he eventually went on to be. We funded him. Reagan armed him. The SAS helped train him, the CIA set up the 'madrasses' in Pakistan where he and like-minded nutters could go and learn about how evil democracy is and how to destroy it, all paid for by taxpayers in Western democracies.
And what she's teaching doesn't count as journalism in the theocracy of Iran. There it counts as sedition. Which she should have known, and undoubtedly did know, before she went there.
( , Wed 8 Nov 2017, 13:54, Reply)

and I guess that's close enough for you.
also, saying fuck a lot doesn't help your argument, it just makes you sound unhinged.

Your insults are extremely lacklustre. Do you ever even bother with actually thinking of something sharp, or do you just giggle to yourself with the assumption that your opponent must look objectively stupid just because you think so?
( , Tue 7 Nov 2017, 19:08, Reply)

It's about time we had a Foreign Secretary that wasn't beholden to the PC Brigade or any notions whatsoever of diplomacy. Blurting out statements unprompted that undermine the defence of a British National close to release but serve no other purpose is why he's fantastically suited to the role.
( , Tue 7 Nov 2017, 20:12, Reply)

They have a place somewhere, but just look at these wanky replies. Fuck sake post some cunts calling over instead or summin.
( , Wed 8 Nov 2017, 7:00, Reply)

I get dragged in because a post calling Boris an incompetent C*** really shouldn't get questioned here. Maybe a politics tick box for posts and a profile setting to not see it.
( , Wed 8 Nov 2017, 8:23, Reply)

Not going to rehash the whole thing but it's not as cut and dry as has been reported. A slight change in the context on what was a dry meeting with a simple statement of fact. Note also that not one of the politicians questioning him had an issue with it at the time.
When it's reported however the words "whilst in Iran" are added which completely changes the story, puts her at risk and a despicable regime gets something to use.
In the face of all this I refuse to go along with the "Lol boris gaffe whatacunt" group mindset.
