If there is such a place, I am going to hell because
I was ordained on line with a church that allows atheists like me to join, thus mocking the religious views of weak minded fools who still believe in Bronze age myths.

I have been told by some Religious Groups that I am evil and am damned to burn because I have a wife.

I also gave up vegetarianism and eat pork, I swear, curse and blaspheme.

Finally, I was told off by a Vicar late last year for wearing a black metal T-Shirt in a church. I was at the practice for my sisters wedding, which she being a good Christian type and marrying a Catholic, insisted had to be in a church. Also being a good Christian type, she had a bitter divorce less than a year later. I am going to burn because I found this funny!

People who are vehemently anti-religion (as opposed to taking the sensible path of being atheist and simply not giving a shit) are often more irritatingly evangelical than most theists.

Really?
I've never seen groups of Atheists in the streets, with megaphones or P.A systems, preaching the good word about the Higgs Boson and clutching their copy of "New Scientist".

I see no megaphones or P.A's in the first three pages.
So Yes. I have never seen them.

Yeah, but you only looked at the first three pages
That's so shallow, you need to look at all the information.

Why not join an Alpha course for more information.

That's like signing up for auditing
to learn more about Scientology.

Yeah, I can barely walk out of the door without being mobbed by theists with PA systems. It surely is a realistic and relevant vignette you're painting here.

Given the context of this being a message board, I was referring more to how people behave on message boards. It seems there are far more people breathlessly proclaiming their disbelief as if such things have been interesting and edgy since the middle of the last century, then there are insisting that I Praise the Lord. And frankly, I'm not that interested in either - believe in what you like, be it Sky Pixies or nothing whatsoever, just don't presume that it'll be in the least bit interesting to anybody else.

I was only trying to be funny.
:/

Oh. Sorry. I get irritated by pontificating anti-theists like the OP - 'my sister's emotional and financial turmoil are hilarious because she's a CHRISTIAN!'. This from someone who seems to take some pride in "hating hate and being intolerant of intolerance". Pff.

I fall well and truely into the "Atheist but don't give a shit" category.

I work with kids who have behavioural difficulties and they were getting a talk about drugs and alcoholism from a religious based support group.
One of them asked my about my beliefs. I told them I was an Atheist.
He says "How does that feel?" as if some fundamental piece of my existence was missing and I should be miserable and heartbroken.
I asked him if he believes in Buddhism or Islam. He said "No". I replied "It feels like that". He stomped off a bit deflated, it was a stupid fucking question though.

Have your beliefs but don't judge or look down on others for having different ones.

Dunno - I think it was a fair question (given that lack of faith is probably inconceivable to someone brought up in a faith) - and a very good answer, which illustrates the point perfectly.

It's an unanswerable question though.
Unless you've been on both sides I suppose.
I usually just say that I'm happy to be a moral person who tries to help others and don't feel that I have a void or something missing that I need religion to fill. Whether it be a comfort, sense of purpose/belonging or a moral guide.

cock
can fill a void better then religion!!

You can't move round here for atheists knocking on doors and saying 'have you heard the bad news'.

Amen to that.
Agnostic is really the only sensible way. Extremism of any sort is to be frowned upon.

Non-extremist? Agnostic? Well, that sounds just like the good old CofE (because then you still get to enjoy Christmas and Easter).

Hear, hear.
If god came up and tapped me on the shoulder in the pub I'd be a bit surprised (might even spill a bit of my beer) but I'd be quite happy then to say that I believed in god.
Until then, unless he's buying - I'm quite happy doing my own thing thank you very much!

Falls in the category of "twats who call a kettle black".
