"If you don't vote Tory you're helping Labour"
How can I be supporting Labour if I'm not voting for them either? If that's your only reason for voting for the Tories then perhaps you shouldn't vote at all.

At least I'm voting.

Oh, and spoiling your ballot paper as a protest is not a protest. It's just stupid.

OK, smartypants:
Who the fuck can I vote for?
Before you try your "not voting is as bad as voting for *" you may want to consider that the whole fucking system is borked. I /know/ that even if my chosen party have a candidate in my area they won't win -- should I vote for NewFuckigNazi or SmugToryScum instead then?
Or, perhaps, I ought to vote for the party with a name most like the one I want in power, despite the fact I disagree with their copyright policy and think it will set back digital entertainment (as an example)?

That's my dilemma
Can I justify voting Lib Dem (who most likely won't get in in my constituency) because I disagree with the DE Bill? This is the ballot paper I want:

Conservative
Labour
Labour (with no Mandelson)
Liberal Democrat
Team Rocket

i'd rather have Team Rocket in power

Their campaign pledges are actually quite reasonable:
1. To protect the world from devastation - sensible foreign policy
2. To unite all peoples within our nation - a considered response to multiculturalism
3. To denounce the evils of truth and love - good! The government has no place in the bedroom
4. To extend our reach to the stars above - nice to see some genuine ambition in politics.

So they'd have my vote.

not only that
but, should we decide we no longer want them in power, they can easily be defeated by a 10-year-old boy and his strangely eyeless friend with the spiky hair.

Actually...
'Before you try your "not voting is as bad as voting for *"'

I wasn't going to make that argument. In fact, I completely disagree with it. In addition to hating being told I'm supporting X party if I don't vote Y I also hate people who say "if you don't vote you have no right to complain" because I disagree with that too. It's the closest you can get to "none of the above".

We live in a Democracy, not the fucking Weakest Link. Tactical voting shouldn't enter into it.

I don't know who you vote for but when I've been in that situation I've voted Green.
(, Mon 12 Apr 2010, 19:59, closed)
I've voted Green before
and then been utterly flabbergasted when I read about their science policies. Having just googled: liberalconspiracy.org/2009/06/09/is-the-green-party-anti-science/

Never again. My vote for other parties is almost a vote against the fucking Green party.

this ^
also, on telling Labour candidate I'm not going to vote for him/her/it, "Well, the Tories won't do any better"

Right. Because I'm instantly going to vote for the Tories if I'm not a Labour voter. Duh.
(, Mon 12 Apr 2010, 22:27, closed)
First time not voting
Screw 'em all. None of them are worthy of my vote.
(, Mon 12 Apr 2010, 19:32, closed)
There are 3 main parties
If people stopped voting for the same parties because they always have done, and actually make an informed choice, then more consituencies become marginal and everyone benefits from that.
