This is a question Crap Gadgets

We wanted a monkey butler and bought one off eBay. Imagine our surprise when we found it was just an ordinary monkey with rabies. Worse: It had no butler training at all. Tell us about your duff technology purchases.

Thanks to Moonbadger for the suggestion

memory foam mattress
what's so comfy about feeling like you're being sucked into the bed? it moulds itself around you, meaning that you feel trapped and claustrophobic, especialy if you're pissed or the weather is hot.
you can't fucking move!
i want to sleep, not play the great escape!

...and the bloody things make you sweat! Luckily my cat pissed on ours and we had to chuck it out!!

Mine has a layer of memory foam on top of a normal matress, and it's fantastic

"what's so comfy about feeling like you're being sucked into the bed?"
A bed that sucks you off to sleep? Crikey.

Do they leave a comedy imprint of you when you get off them? Like a Han Solo jelly mold?
(, Thu 29 Sep 2011, 16:52, closed)
yes they do
it's got plenty of time to take an imprint of your body as you struggle to escape its grip

A han solo jelly mould?
that would be awesome. I'm going to call JML.

I *heart* mine!
It is fairly solid as memory foam mattresses go though, so you're not sinking right into it.

As a comparison, I went off to uni and had to leave my lully mattress back at my parents. The one in the student digs was an apparently new but exceedingly soft sprung mattress, sitting on it was like rolling around on a water bed. I fell ill, and spent a lot of time lying down - I got cramps in my back and legs and bruises on my hips from the springs. Eventually ended up in hospital, and despite the rubber sheets making me sweat like a paedo in a primary, the memory foam mattresses did not cause even half as many problems.

i have a very firm mattress
i just can't sleep on soft ones, they make me feel physically sick for some reason :(

You go hospitalised by a mattress?

We love our memory foam mattress
but the pillows are fucking terrible

Agreed. Memory foam mattresses suck big time.
Slept in a "friend"'s £££expensive memory bed a few times last year, damn thing gave me backache every time. When she tried my firmly sprung bed (Cost: free, ex-dead-old-lady), she said it was the most comfortable bed she'd ever slept in.

Same here
Ex-girlfriend spent shitloads on a memory foam mattress (about £500) and recommended I should get one as it would be "good for your back". Damn thing crippled me and I could hardly feel my legs the next morning. Bought a decent sprung mattress for myself instead and it's ace!

I'm with you there.
I wouldn't like to sleep on a rock mattress, but I like 'em firm with a bit of spring. Can't stand overly poomfy pillows either. How are you supposed to breathe with pillow above your face?!
(, Thu 29 Sep 2011, 23:43, closed)
Lies!!
OMG I LUV MAH MEMORY MATRISS

I definitely prefer my memory foam mattress over a standard one. No question about it at all.

i'm perfectly happy to accept that some people find them to be wonderful
but they make me hot, uncomfortable, claustrophobic and angry.
(, Fri 30 Sep 2011, 21:44, closed)
Terrible
things, and so are foam pillows. Mattresses need to have springs, pillows shall be made from down/feathers.
