This is a question Hypocrisy

Overheard the other day: "I've told you before - stop swearing in front of the kids, for fuck's sake." Your tales of double standards please.

Pearoast, as reminded by Legless' post below

Do men respect women who put out on the first date? A scientific approach.

Research hypothesis
Based on a claim made by my flatmate, men do not want anything long-term with women who sleep with them on the first date. The research hypothesis (H1) is that there exists a significant difference between a man’s respect for a woman who sleeps with him on the first date (condition 1), a subsequent later date (condition 2) and not at all (condition 3), thus (H1): x-barfirst ≠ x-barlater ≠ x-barnever. The null hypothesis H0 is that there is no significant difference between conditions.

This work did not pass ethics committee scrutiny, but participant confidentiality was assured.

Pilot study
My life prior to the experiment.

Me in a short skirt, getting drunk.

Sample (x-bar)
The population was “men I fancy” and thus the experiment was conducted on a subset, or sample, of these men.

Participant A
Friend-of-a-friend. First date. Got very drunk. Fell into bed. It wasn’t great. Decided to give him a second chance and the fecker turned me down. Didn't see that coming, which was pretty much what I said the night before too.
Conclusion: he did not respect me in the morning.

Participant B
The Lovely-ex. In pub after work. Vaguely knew him. Got very drunk. Fell into bed. After a rocky start where I bullied him into dating me we got it sorted and were together for two and a half years and lived together in domestic bliss disputes bliss harmony for a year and a half of that.
Conclusion: it was indeed long-term. Hmm, one-all.

Participant C
A lengthy (for me) courtship before dragging him to my lair, and I have no idea if he respects me more for it, or if he respects me at all, but hell, he can do things with his tongue that'd make you go blind.
Conclusion: inconclusive.

Participants D-Z
All the men I wanted to shag but never got to shag. I'm sure they respect me more, now that my cries of "pleeeeease sleeeeeep with meeeeee" have faded.
Conclusion: I'm sure they'd all be on for something long-term, oh yeah.

Statistical analysis
I can’t be arsed running stats tests. My cracked copy of SPSS isn't working.

i) It shouldn’t matter a damn.
ii) The only thing I learned was that if the hypothesis is true then it works both ways.
iii) I'd forgotten how tedious it is to run experiments.
iv) I should've applied for funding from some social sciences research council, then I'd have broken even on drinks and condoms.
v) I don't respect people who don't respect my lack of self-respect.

Edited to add: now I make sure I don't offer anal 'til at least the third date.

I think this needs further study.
Probably with an older study group.

send me
your videos findings. And lengthy descriptive prose. And a rating. (Highlight the really good ones, if you would.) Oh, and I'll require the names and addresses of all subjects.
(, Mon 23 Feb 2009, 11:21, closed)
No problem.
I will share submit my findings with the appropriate measurements.
(, Mon 23 Feb 2009, 11:36, closed)
Just make sure the trial is double-blind
or all your work will be discredited.

Loads of men are hypocrites about this...
but I've had the reverse where I've slept with someone on a first date and the next day they've accused me of being a whore for sleeping with them so soon. This has happened a few times. Erm... wasn't like I was doing it by myself. This only used to happen after shitloads of booze. Think I might just blame that.

But the fellas who call women sluts etc are braindead morons. The only real rule is - do not cheat on anyone ever. If you're single, fine. But if you're with someone and you cheat you're a scum sucking cuntbag.
(, Mon 23 Feb 2009, 11:23, closed)
So does that mean
that if you're single and the other person made the decision to cheat on their partner, it makes it morally acceptable at least for you?

Arrrrgh! Bane of my life! 3 weeks till my dissertation is due!

Do You Fuck On First Date?

Does your Dad own a brewery?

Can I feel your tits?

Or will you show them to me?

If the answers above

To the questions, are no

I'd be grateful if you'd give me the name

Of a girlfriend that does.

One of the reasons that blokes treat women with a sexual appetite as turds is male insecurity. They think:

"If I could get her into bed so easily then anyone can"

(It doesn't even cross their tiny minds that the woman had been stalking them for *months* and had taken their shot when they had the chance)

So they conclude that, and I para-wreck, Groucho Marx:

"Any women who who'd have me? I don't want."

Men who want virgins, or women with limited sexual experience, feel that they can't satisfy a woman.

I'm semi drunk and missing my lady - who's a *real* woman.

But she'll be back in the back few hours

I wonder
if this is some sort of evolutionary throwback. Men can produce babies faster than women, so in order for men to survive, they try and impregnate as many women as possible, but for a woman to ensure she passes on her genes, she has to chose the best quality man. Another theory is that this may be an evolutionary way of avoiding STDs.

So perhaps over the millennia, we've re-enforced our biologically hardcoded thoughtprocesses with cultural prejudices. Hopefully, if we can be open-minded enough to realise all this for what it is and make responsible use of contraceptives, we could breed a race of humans that have mutated not to have this hardcoded in them.

BTW. That's my chat-up line that is!

3rd date, you say?
*hurredly books table at restaurant 3 weeks in a row*

call me?
(, Mon 23 Feb 2009, 11:50, closed)
I resent!
The assumption that..

a) If I sleep with a man after knowing them for a few hours, it makes me a slut..

b) If I'm a slut, I don't have feelings that are just as valid as anyone else's

I don't offer anal unless I'm spectacularly pished, and they're not too well built.. ;-)
(, Mon 23 Feb 2009, 12:02, closed)
good points
I feel that it does depend on the guy, not the girl. Personally speaking, I would respect the woman no matter what her decision.
(, Mon 23 Feb 2009, 12:13, closed)
^^ this explains...
why I have never been offered anal! I have led a sheltered/boring life :(
(, Mon 23 Feb 2009, 12:26, closed)
which is why this is a comic strip which I think is great even though it wasn't drawn by Randall Munroe:

It probably doesn't matter that SPSS is shagged
there's not enough data for a statistically relevant or meaningful conclusion. You'll have to go with gut feeling.

Mind you, you're right about applying to the SSRC. They'll fund anything. Even better, try the ESRC. It'll be worth it for comedy purposes.

I reckon
I could get away with a non-parametric test. Wilcoxon Mann-Whitney, perhaps, as that contains both "cocks" and "man" in the name.
(, Mon 23 Feb 2009, 12:58, closed)
but that would just be using clever statistics to cover up the fact you haven't got any data ;)

not that I've ever successfully generated a straight line by replotting data on a logarithmic/probability axis. Or got it published. Several times. Oh no. That would be very wrong.

don't worry
I won't tell anyone. I mean, it's surely not the reason why my last journal paper has had a total of one citation in a whole year.
(, Mon 23 Feb 2009, 13:03, closed)
cyclic citations are the way forward.
enter into citing deals with your academic friends. Or, in my case, write fairly high-profile reviews and cite yourself ;)

It's all just one giant circle jerk/cluster fuck/daisy chain*

*delete as applicable

One of my papers
has been cited 82 times, purely on the basis that it contains the most comprehensive literature survey on the topic so everyone just says "see CHCB et al.". No one has remarked on the glaring errors in it, probably because they're just relieved they didn't have to write it themselves.
(, Mon 23 Feb 2009, 14:28, closed)
Ah, that's good work, right there.

Reverse genitals...
sounds like some sort of fetish practice? I'm not sure if I'm turned on by that or not..
