Okay, because this is important enough to bear repeating...
news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080915/ap_on_bi_ge/financial_meltdown
Obama called the news "the most serious financial crisis since the Great Depression" of the 1930s.
I was warned of this last winter. God damn it, Matt was right. We're in for a very bad one, folks.
FECK!

Kaol's Espresso Challenge
Today I started the Espresso Challenge.
This means that every day, at lunchtime, I shall have espresso.
Today was a single, tomorrow will be a double, Friday will be five.
Updates shall be made, and it may well carry onto next week.

People who have been in bands
or musicians as they are otherwise known:
As you may be aware I have a band and we have been playing a number of gigs in my local area. Generally this hasn't been for much money, but that's fine because we need the practice.
However, we've been asked if we would consider playing for a private party of lawyer types in Laaahndaaahn and how much we would like to be paid for such a thing.
None of us have been in this position before and have no idea how much we can ask for. Obviously we need to cover our costs and stuff, but it'd be nice to make something on top so we can buy a new drum kit anddrugs and fireworks stuff.
I'd appreciate it if some b3ta types could give me some helpful advice.

Heh heh heh.
So as I've said many times before, I'm divorced and have three teens, the youngest of whom is my 15 year old daughter.
This summer when she came home from a summer with my sisters and my parents up north, she expressed a desire to me to get her lower lip pierced.
I thought about this for a few minutes. If she had it done she could late remove it, and all that would be there was a small hole where it had been- overall, not a big deal. "Okay, I'm good with that. We'll find out if it's legal to be done, though."
Turns out that though it's not against the law, most places won't do it if you're under 15, even if your dad is standing right there. However, the place where I got my tattoo done has a woman who will do it, once she's had a chance to talk to the kid first. As I know this shop and know that they run a VERY clean place (they showed me their autoclave, and use disposable packaged equipment when they can), I was comfortable with them doing it. "But discuss this with your mom first, okay? I don't want her screeching over the phone at me."
Nurse Ratched was against it, of course.
Mini-Me was quite unhappy over this, especially when I told her that I wasn't going to override her mother's wishes- I was being respectful.
Her mother's response to this? "He's just using me as an excuse to say no."
Passive aggression, anyone?
So Mini-Me and I have just gotten back. She had Angelina Jolie's lower lip now, but she's very happy despite the pain.
I'm awaiting the Brown Noise that I'm sure will be audible from miles away.

Captain Placid & Pooflake are AWOL for the Leamington bash. Does anyone have a number for either of them, so we can make sure they haven't been run over by marauding fire engines? Gaz me if you do :)

Today has been good
my skin has been lightly toasted by the sun (the parts of it that poke out of a wetsuit anyway), I only sustained minor injuries and the surf was good.
a good day

Good morning, fine people!
I am sat on a boat on a beautiful lake in the middle of Southern California. I have 4 catfish on my stringer and a beer in hand and am having a good time.

I'm back!
Internets are functional, flat is de-spidered, Mr Maladicta is present and the Channel Tunnel is no longer on fire. Yesterday I spent all day in Ashford terminal in a high-vis vest directing pissed off people to the departures lounge after they got off the train from Dover.
How are you gentle b3tans? What did I miss?

As a long time user, I'm going to have to say qotw/offtopic, but what about you?
My profile doesn't count as an answer because I know you think I'm ace.

Ah balls
I just realised that I have a number of books out from the local public library which are overdue.
Is there anything I can do to avoid myself paying a hefty sum, or do I be an adult about the whole thing and pay up?
