Anyone planning on going to 2000 trees festival this year, tickets go on sale via facebook page
tomorrow morning. I thought it was a while yet so might want to get in early if anyone is going?

Alt Q: how are you?
(, Sun 30 Jan 2011, 11:56, 100 replies, latest was 15 years ago)
Alt Q: I am not the least bit surprised
That Andy Murray has bottled it. Again.
(, Sun 30 Jan 2011, 12:00, Reply)
I think Al Murray would have played better.
Doh! why do the british think they can play sport?
(, Sun 30 Jan 2011, 12:48, Reply)
I have been a busy bee today and I am totally making home made chicken soup.
I would have made an awesome grandma.
(, Sun 30 Jan 2011, 14:13, Reply)
Do you have a recipe for that?

(, Sun 30 Jan 2011, 14:30, Reply)
I have a traditional Jewish Cookbook that I got the recipe from.
There are some awesome recipes in it from around the world. Tourettes had it and I immediatly bought a copy.
(, Sun 30 Jan 2011, 14:32, Reply)
Chicken soup I can make already.
I want a recipe for the awesome grandma you would have made.
(, Sun 30 Jan 2011, 14:34, Reply)
Oh! hahaha!
Take one old female.
Add some grey hair and youthful vigour.
Sprinkle with broadmindedness and a pinch of twinkle in the eye.
Add a homemade chicken recipe and cup of kindess.
Leave to stand for about 25 years.
(, Sun 30 Jan 2011, 14:38, Reply)
What's the cookbook?
I love Claudia Roden's. The little stories she puts in it make it so much better- in her recipe for falafel she descibes visiting her uncle in Egypt I think it is. He's colossally fat, and lives above a great falafel shop. They'll sit out on the balcony, and every so often throw down a basket with some money in, and when they draw it back up, there's fresh falafel and pitta and tahini in it.

Put some of this stuff in it, it's amazing, the best bit, I like the bowl/mug filled with them.

Go down your local big supermarket at the jewish section, find something called "kneidlach mix" or "motza ball mix", just follow the instructions.

I'm more poorly :(
(, Sun 30 Jan 2011, 14:26, Reply)
Oh seriously this.
Woke up about an hour ago. This is turning into a repeat of last year. Am sipping diet coke and watching a very good but very depressing film.
(, Sun 30 Jan 2011, 14:30, Reply)
is it requiem for a dream?
I watched that yesterday on iplayer
(, Sun 30 Jan 2011, 14:31, Reply)
I woke up and had the choice of National Treasure and that
According to flatmate the former is one of those really bad it's good films, but I decided to watch one I've watched to death but love.

I relate a little too much to Sara :(
(, Sun 30 Jan 2011, 14:32, Reply)
Which film is it?
I'm watching Beckett.
(, Sun 30 Jan 2011, 14:32, Reply)
Requiem For A Dream
it's on iPlayer, I really recommend seeing it if you haven't.
(, Sun 30 Jan 2011, 14:33, Reply)
it's not very upbeat
if you wanted something light, though
(, Sun 30 Jan 2011, 14:35, Reply)
Shush, what are you saying, the first 20 minutes are EXACTLY what the rest of the film is like

(, Sun 30 Jan 2011, 14:37, Reply)
Watch it once
you'll never want to watch it again. I've got it on dvd and I've never managed to persuade myself to watch it a second time. It's very good but utterly soul destroyingly depressing.
(, Sun 30 Jan 2011, 14:48, Reply)
It certainly helped change my mind about drugs
that and my own Harry and Marion.
(, Sun 30 Jan 2011, 14:55, Reply)
I have to say, it certainly put me off trying any of the harder drugs
not that I was ever likely to in the first place, but still...
(, Sun 30 Jan 2011, 14:57, Reply)
I used to be quite laissez-fair about people doing drugs
But now I don't really like people doing them near me at all. My over-riding urge not-to-break-the-law has come back, it seems.
(, Sun 30 Jan 2011, 14:59, Reply)
Depends on the drug, really
I wouldn't be comfortable being out in a pub/club with people who were taking drugs, it just seems like a really bad idea. What people do in their own homes is different, I have no objection to being at my friends house whilst he hoovers coke down his nostrils, it's just not something I particularly fancy doing myself.
(, Sun 30 Jan 2011, 15:04, Reply)
I get very edgy and paranoid
and being around illegal stuff really puts me on edge.

Oh god I've got 20 mins to go. I forgot how bad Fall gets, and the fact it was still fall and all that was happening reminded me of how fucking ATROCIOUS Winter is. Fuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuck

I've been looking at holidays to cheer myself up - anyone fancy coming to Croatia at easter?
(, Sun 30 Jan 2011, 14:51, Reply)
I was always under the impression that Croatia was quite expensive?
Egypt is supposed to be good value at the moment.
(, Sun 30 Jan 2011, 14:53, Reply)
I prefer to go on holiday
somewhere where I won't get set on fire, ta. Croatia is pretty cheap as far as I'm aware - certainly cheaper than the eurozone.
(, Sun 30 Jan 2011, 14:54, Reply)
Croatia's lovely, and cheaper than, say, Prague if you're going in that general direction.
I'd love to go back there and see more of the place (though I don't think it's going to be a possibility this easter!)
(, Sun 30 Jan 2011, 14:57, Reply)
Prague was pretty cheap
if Croatia is even cheaper, that is Good News. Especially as I can't afford to go on holiday in the slightest but I'm bloody well going to go anyway. Whereabouts did you go? The plan thus far is to fly in to Dubrovnik and out of Split, so I get to travel and see Trogir and maybe some of the national parks and stuff.
(, Sun 30 Jan 2011, 14:59, Reply)
I was a bit boring and just stayed in Dubrovnik*
Which is lovely, don't get me wrong, although I was kind of running out of things to do and see by the fourth day. I think if I'd been less of a loner and not gone by myself then I'd have made more of an effort to visit another city.

*Typing 'Croatia' or 'Cro(w)atia' into the search function will probably bring up the horrendously self-indulgent travel diary I posted on here after I came back.
(, Sun 30 Jan 2011, 15:02, Reply)
I just don't fancy east Europe for some reason.
I am most definitely going to Goa or Sri Lanka next year.
(, Sun 30 Jan 2011, 15:04, Reply)
But Croatia is so pretty!

(, Sun 30 Jan 2011, 15:08, Reply)
It's not that great
It's alright, but I wouldn't go back there.
(, Sun 30 Jan 2011, 15:18, Reply)
I'm fairly easily pleased when it comes to holiday destinations
and I'm going to go anyway and have an awesome time, so there.
(, Sun 30 Jan 2011, 15:19, Reply)
Awwwww, it's a tree!
Yeah, I'm sure you'll enjoy it, especially Dubrovnik. But outside the old city it's still very Eastern Bloc.
(, Sun 30 Jan 2011, 15:21, Reply)
Really?
I've always found going on holiday on my own makes me more inclined to travel round and see more stuff. I am failing thus far to persuade any of my friends to come to Croatia though...
(, Sun 30 Jan 2011, 15:05, Reply)
It's not that cheap either
not anymore.

I went to prague twice
once before the revolution (like a couple of months before) and once when it was proper capitalistified. There was quite the contrast
(, Sun 30 Jan 2011, 15:21, Reply)
There were 15 years between my first and second visit
And there was a huge difference, not least in the cost of living. The first time I went, I managed to spend less than £70 in a week, that included eating out every night and quite a few cab fares/nightclubs etc.

Most recently, the cost of things there was similar to that in the UK.
(, Sun 30 Jan 2011, 15:28, Reply)
my first trip was one day with guides (we were camping in germany).
As I remember it we were hours at the border, there was NO ONE in the streets and we were ushered quickly to a giant church (I think it was, anyway), fed a 11 course meal, then ushered out again. It was a long time ago, but I don't remember sightseeing or anything

edit: august 1989 and a quick check of wikipedia says the velvet revolution was November

And am now off to stock up on wine as I believe the place up the road is still running an offer. Meh, even if they're not I fancy buying some wine.

Alt: Oh wow
I was just at work, and just as my shift was about to finish, we noticed there was a BIG FIRE in a garage next to the pub. There were coppers and two fire engines and loads of firemen and everything! The police wouldn't let anyone leave the pub. Exciting times. I like firemen.
