Galway.
Cheap flights, good arts scene, great scenery, Guinness, MDs at very reasonable rates.
(, Wed 2 Feb 2011, 13:47, Reply)
I've heard Prague's lovely

(, Wed 2 Feb 2011, 13:47, Reply)
It is.
Dark Kozel and pretzels are to be found in abundance. There's a bit of architecture and culture around those parts as well, I hear.

Are you quiz junkies?

(, Wed 2 Feb 2011, 14:03, Reply)
He is, more than anyone I've ever met
Runs a quiz league, went on Mastermind (specialist subject; Status Quo. Not kidding), been on loads of TV quiz shows. I love a good pub quiz but don't have his voracious appetite for general knowledge, hence my restricting myself thus far to a show you don't have to be THAT clever to win. As you will see, if you watch it tonight.
(, Wed 2 Feb 2011, 14:05, Reply)
This is at 5.30 tonight, yes?

(, Wed 2 Feb 2011, 14:10, Reply)

I hear Marbella is quite nice. Though I'm not entirely sure this is considered European.
The only great city I've been to is DC. I love the museums. This summer I intend to spend many weekends travelling there.
I'd like to go to the Kennedy Center and see some musical performances and a ballet or twelve as well.
(, Wed 2 Feb 2011, 13:59, Reply)
Marbella.
Marbella. Fuck off.
(, Wed 2 Feb 2011, 14:02, Reply)
You fuck off.
I said I HEAR it's nice.
(, Wed 2 Feb 2011, 14:04, Reply)
Hehe
No, Marbella can fuck off, not you. Not that either of us have been, but I've heard otherwise and I'm a lot closer to it than you are.
(, Wed 2 Feb 2011, 14:06, Reply)
I've been to Marbella
It can indeed fuck off.

I was never socially retarded!
I just had an annoying face/voice/legs.

I want to go to Florence, Lascaux and somewhere else I can't think of.
But I also want to explore Britain too. I've never been to Cornwall, and I haven't seen enough of Wales or Scotland.
(, Wed 2 Feb 2011, 13:59, Reply)
Say what you like about meeting strange people off the internet,
it's certainly got my juices flowing again for visiting parts of the UK.
(, Wed 2 Feb 2011, 14:03, Reply)

again for visiting parts of the uk
(, Wed 2 Feb 2011, 14:19, Reply)
Well yes, that for a short time too : )

(, Wed 2 Feb 2011, 14:21, Reply)
Florence is amezzing.
it was certainly my favourite of the three (Venice and Rome being the other two - oh to be 18 years old again with an inheritance to spend!)
(, Wed 2 Feb 2011, 14:05, Reply)
Alternatively, Dublin's really nice
if you're a fucking millionaire. It's worth going just to wonder at how there is not one single Irish people living amongst the several million inhabitants of Ireland's capital.
(, Wed 2 Feb 2011, 14:00, Reply)
Agreed.
Which is why I recommend Galway. Or Dublin-Lite as it is now known.
(, Wed 2 Feb 2011, 14:01, Reply)
Dublin was great
but stupidly expensive.

"Can I have two pints of Guinness please?"
"Sooortanly soor, that'll be ten Euros"
"I said two pints"
(, Wed 2 Feb 2011, 14:01, Reply)
Yep that's about it
When I went it was nearly six Euros a pint. And this was when a quid got you about 1.20 Euros. It's also the only place I've ever been where I heard an advert exhorting people to go to the pub. First thing on the radio in the taxi. Dara O'Briain. Who doesn't live in Dublin. Because he's Irish.
(, Wed 2 Feb 2011, 14:07, Reply)
hahaha!
We went about 5 years ago and had a great time, though my wallet did not
(, Wed 2 Feb 2011, 14:08, Reply)
"one single Irish people"

(, Wed 2 Feb 2011, 14:15, Reply)
If you want Irish you should go to New York.

(, Wed 2 Feb 2011, 14:17, Reply)

(, Wed 2 Feb 2011, 14:21, Reply)
what was your favorite thing about NY?

(, Wed 2 Feb 2011, 14:24, Reply)
Bar hopping and the food was good.
People were all pretty sarcastic, which makes me laugh.
(, Wed 2 Feb 2011, 14:27, Reply)
bar hopping and food
le sigh
(, Wed 2 Feb 2011, 14:29, Reply)
I'd love to go back to America and enjoy it properly this time.

(, Wed 2 Feb 2011, 14:29, Reply)
where would you go?

(, Wed 2 Feb 2011, 14:33, Reply)
I don't really know.
Michael S has invited me over to his neck of the woods, which I think is Vermont. I quite like the idea of visiting San Fransisco or New Orleans.
(, Wed 2 Feb 2011, 14:36, Reply)
fuck yeah New Orleans
I so want to go further south. Mississippi, Louisiana, oh man that would be an amazing road trip.
(, Wed 2 Feb 2011, 14:38, Reply)
Prague is nice
So is Venice, and Vienna for that matter, but they're expensive. Granada is gorgeous but a bit of a pain in the arse to get to. Reykjavik was nice as well, and not nearly as expensive as you'd think, but there's not a great deal to see bar the blue lagoon (which is fucking amazing to be fair) and the northern lights if they happen to show whilst you're there.
(, Wed 2 Feb 2011, 14:02, Reply)
I really really must get to the west coast of Scotland soon.
My whole being cries out for this.
(, Wed 2 Feb 2011, 14:05, Reply)
Have you ever been to Oban?
Take the car ferry across to Mull, drive right across it, dump the car at Fionnphort and take the passenger ferry to Iona. Beautiful.
(, Wed 2 Feb 2011, 14:21, Reply)
Never been further than Glasgow/Edinburgh.

(, Wed 2 Feb 2011, 14:22, Reply)
Glasgow is possibly my favourite city in the UK

(, Wed 2 Feb 2011, 14:28, Reply)
I like Liverpool, Cardiff, Edinburgh, London
You know, all the capitals ;)
(, Wed 2 Feb 2011, 14:29, Reply)
Liverpool is a cracking city, and I love the place.
I've only ever been to London once, and I've never been to Cardiff or Edinburgh, so I can't really comment on them.
(, Wed 2 Feb 2011, 14:31, Reply)
One of the good things about my work
is the random places you end up that turn out to be lovely. I thought Chichester was particularly nice but I'd never have gone there. Conversely, Barry Town was shit and this was expected
(, Wed 2 Feb 2011, 14:34, Reply)
I once ended up in Ludlow as the result of a joke
and I loved it
(, Wed 2 Feb 2011, 14:37, Reply)
Berlin
it's an astounding city.

Venice is nice too. Prague is also lovely as is Amsterdam. Munich isn't bad either. Rome is lovely if you can avoid the muggers.
