Nostalgia can never be as good as it was
back in the nostalgic old days.
Alt: I'm not even sure what hardcore is. Or any of the 'cores. I hope you're not talking about sadcore because then I'd have to judge you

It was! I'm sure him predicting the correct score has made him very, very, very, happy.

I wanted Arsenal to win.
Now only 6th place gets a European spot (as long as both teams in the FA Cup final have already qualified through their league position). The tiniest of slim chances of me being able to act like an arsehole on the continent next season has vanished.

Was thinking about nostalgia just t'other day.
When I were a lass, everyone over about 50 was OLD. The women wore polyester frocks and cardigans and bizarre plastic glasses and the men wore trousers that reached up to their chests, with braces and flat caps.
They were always telling young men to take their hands out of their pockets or tutting if a young woman showed more than a square inch of flesh between their neck and mid-calves. According to them, everything was rubbish, not like in t'war, when there was proper music an' everythin'.
Now I'm middle-aged, and where's the polyester? Where's the outrage? All the old people I know are out picking up a new sports car or flying off to Spain for a last-minute holiday.
Old people - they're not what they were in MY day.

If i'm all like "OH MAN, I WOULD LOVE THAt, THAT IS SO AWESOME, IT SOUNDS LIKE THE MOST AMAZING TIME EVER, OH GOD, I GOT TO CALL MY MA' ABOUT THIS, I CANT BELIEVE PEOPLE WOULD INVITE ME TO SUCH AN AMAZING THING, I'M GOING TO WRITE THIS DOWN IN MY DIARY, ITS THE FIRST HAPPY THING I'VE WRITTEN IN IT SINCE COME DINE WITH ME GOT KNOCKED DOWN TO 1 HOUR", it's seen as too keen.
And if I'm like "Yeah', whatever, fucking slags, I got better things to do; Will Smith is flying me out in his private jet for the screaning of Men In Black 4 (haven't heard of 3? God, you're sooo lame), but I'm not going to tell you about that, if you're lucky I might nip by just to see how shit it is", it's considered too much the other way.

I always thought "hardcore will never die"
Was a sort of rallying call in the face of the seemingly inevitable - people get old and can't stomach fierce rave tunes anymore, then the kids move on to something different. However I've met a few 40+ original late-80s ravers who still love it. And the youngsters love discovering the old stuff. Wonder how many 60+ rave/oldschool trance/DnB/whatever fans there will be in the future? That could settle your question.
Every now and again I try to kick myself in the ass and tell myself to quit being so obsessed about the same old music I was into when I was 15. It's got me nowhere and it's arguably totally escapist. But then a couple of nights ago I was poring over my 1991 (?)
Trance Europe Express CD booklet with my brother with particular attention to ravers Black Dog, who apparently are still going strong in Sheffield.

I have lived on my own for...hmm...seven or eight years now
well, in halls/shared houses for a little bit of that, but I was only ever cooking for myself, and I have never not cooked on the basis of 'well it's only for me'. Plenty of times I've not cooked on the basis of 'I really can't be arsed tonight', but home cooked food is sooooo much nicer and easier than some crap in a microwaveable plastic tray.
