I just started up again and depending on what my first batch tastes like, it could either be a QOTW disaster or success story.

Ales, that is. Gin for me.

I fancy a go of brewing beer, but I hear it makes the house smell

2008 batch: delightful. We are still saving the last bottle for a special occasion
2009 batch: went a little awry. Made the mistake of bringing it along to a couple of b3ta bashes, at the second of which I ended up drinking nearly 2L of it myself. Not a good idea. Due to its "brackish pondwater" qualities it has since earned a lot of ridicule, albeit with a fairly frightening reputation.
2010 batch: we got it right again. Absolutely delightful and even managed to reassure some people who'd been put off by the 2009 batch. Took some along to a house party at which it not only went down very well, it drew a lot of questions from people who wondered how we made it, including several REAL WOMEN.

I'm bottling about 5 gallons of bitters this weekend which shoudl be ready to drink in about 2 weeks (although I'll try it before then). I brewed a stout last weekend that I will put into secondary fermentation this wekend where I will leave it for 2 weeks then bottle it after which it will need to sit for about a month.
I ned to think of what to try next so I make sure I don't run out of beer once these two are ready to drink. I'll either do an IPA or a Porter with the addition of peated malt to give it a really smoly flavor (I love Islay whisky so it might be interesting in beer too).

One generic Youngs kit, one generic Edme bitter kit. Both have tasted of cider-sweet-disgustingness. Think I'm bottling too early? Dunno.
At the minute the whole thing looks and tastes like a massive waste of money.

(Assuming he meant "Two people do: The Supreme Crow and...", as opposed to "Two people do the supremecrow...", because if that's the case then I'd quite like to know who the other one is...)

Well, I think her husband is "the master brewer" but she certainly gets involved. Don't think they've ever tried brewing ales, though - only (very strong) fruit wines if I recall correctly.
