Considering you're all alcoholics
what do you think of this www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-15265317 I think it's pretty interesting.
(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 15:11, 95 replies, latest was 14 years ago)
I agree mainly that blaming alcohol for your behaviour is pretty stupid.
If you're consious you're responsible for your actions.
(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 15:13, Reply)
Also, if you act like a cunt when pissed then stop getting pissed

(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 15:15, Reply)
Yep, that too
If I was a violent drunk I'd like to think I'd stop.
(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 15:17, Reply)
I would
Who wants to go out and pay a load of money to be in a bad mood? I can do that for free
(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 15:18, Reply)
If you're a violent drunk
then chances are you're violent sober. What is it they call alcohol, a mood amplifier or some shit like that?
(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 15:19, Reply)
This^

(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 15:20, Reply)
Totally agree, and I really hate people who constantly act like total pricks and then blame it all on being bipoler or autistic or something.
It is possible to be a total cunt to somebody _and_ be bipoler or whatever, rather than _because_.
(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 15:19, Reply)
Yep
I like a drink as I feel chilled and relaxed when I have one
(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 15:20, Reply)
As far as I can see drinking exaggerates your mood
If you are happy/silly then you get happier/sillier
If you are in a nark, you end up in more of a nark
(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 15:14, Reply)
Kate Fox also wrote a very good book "Watching the English" - worth reading.

(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 15:25, Reply)
I think you are suited to answer this question actually
Were you a happy/sad/angry drinker? What made you start/stop?
(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 15:29, Reply)
I'm guessing: necessity

(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 15:30, Reply)
Yup

(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 15:32, Reply)
I'm just interested, is all

(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 15:33, Reply)
Oh, i wasn't being arsey, sorry.
But at the end of the day, necessity was pretty much what it boiled down too. 'Rock Bottom' as they say.
(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 15:35, Reply)
I didn't take it as being arsey

(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 15:38, Reply)
Well fuck you then.

(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 15:46, Reply)
I took that as being arsey
Does this help any?
(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 15:47, Reply)
I wouldn't be arshey with you, I love you, you're the besht.

(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 15:51, Reply)
Leev it Scarp - ee ain't worf it

(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 15:47, Reply)
I stopped because I was a solo drinker of the worst kind by the end
but before that I was a very social, happy drunk. Occassionally dangerous to myself or others through clumsiness rather than malice.
(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 15:33, Reply)
Ahh, OK

(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 15:34, Reply)
I mean, that's what I think anyway.
You'd need to ask others who were around me if my perception matches the reality.
(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 15:36, Reply)
Out of interest, what/how much did you drink?

(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 15:43, Reply)
Lots and everything.
That sounds flippant, but it's the best description. Vodka as a favourite, but cheap, internal organ stripping white cider wasn't out of the question. If you drink two bottls of Frosty Jack on a Sunday, you know something's not right.
(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 15:48, Reply)
Blimey
How long have you been sober?
(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 15:49, Reply)
606 days.

(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 15:50, Reply)
*claps*
Good fucking going!
(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 15:51, Reply)
Thank you.

Something I don't get, right, with my tablets.
Sometimes when I take them, it's like nothing has happened, no real strength to them at all. Then other times I take them, like this afternoon, and they're rediculously strong.

It doesn't seem to co-incide with what I've eaten or what I've drunk with them, how much sleep I've had, or anything like that. It's just, like, random, where every few days a dose would do nothing and every few days a dose would make me feel wasted.

Is it possible that the tablet manufacturing has gone funny?
(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 15:30, Reply)
Shouldn't be
They should be manufactured and distributed under very strict conditions.
(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 15:32, Reply)
You can build up temporary resistance to them in your synapses.
Different parts of your nervous system will clear out at different times that's probably the reason.
(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 15:37, Reply)
Really?
I'm not disputing it, but it sounds like something out of a shampoo commercial!
(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 15:44, Reply)
Pain meds effect neuroreceptors on the end of nerve cells,
they can only activate a limited number of times before they stop working and get replaced.
Drugs generally either block them to stop pain travelling or speed up their usage. So the cells try to counter it, either creating more or removing them quicker.
(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 15:49, Reply)
Can I ask why you dont work in a more medical capacity in the NHS?
You seem to be very knowledgeable about it
(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 15:50, Reply)
Well, there was this incident with an unconscious patient and a rectal probe...

(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 15:52, Reply)

Perhaps you could set yourself up as an online quack
There is a lot of call for internet diagnoses round these parts.
(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 16:01, Reply)
It's kinda sweet that politicians think they can change the way the NHS works.

(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 16:09, Reply)
They can change how much money it has

(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 16:13, Reply)
Only until people start saying "give us more money or pretty photographic children start dying of preventable diseases"

(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 16:15, Reply)
I don't quite understand really,
Is this that thing where now the GPs decide how to spend the money, ie, who gets what operation or medicine, rather than PCTs ?
(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 16:12, Reply)
Sort of yes.

(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 16:14, Reply)
Cool, sounds good then.
I gotta dash, sorry to run.

Depends on the contents of your bento box

(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 16:09, Reply)

(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 17:55, Reply)
I saw that earlier
it's one of those things that's actually pretty obvious but doesn't occur until somebody states it. It's well known that france, spain and italy have higher per capita alcohol consumption but much less of an "issue" with it, so there's obviously something in what she says.

Although I think she underestimates the gaping chasm between "amount of trouble actually caused by drunk people in the UK" and "amount of trouble the hand-wringing press bleat on about related to drunk people in the UK"

see also how your kids will definitely be killed by a paedophile now and they were safe to go where they wanted at any time 30 years ago. Even though child rape and murder has decreased over time.
(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 17:02, Reply)

Can you make the naked lady dance?

(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 18:45, Reply)
Nah', but I can make it remind me something when I'm at a location, which would be so fucking handy, such as when I'm at Tesco, to get toilet paper.

(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 19:00, Reply)
Nope, it's not on there, but would be really easy to make. I'll make it, it'll be good to learn a new language, haven't done that this year.

(, Wed 12 Oct 2011, 19:10, Reply)
They have a good point
Ireland has a similar drinking culture to us and yet they seem to associate drinking with 'a bit of a giggle' rather than 'this is the last days of rome'

I drink to forget.
