Too early to P-A-R-T-Y as yet, but it raises the question; has b3ta become too harsh an environment for new blood to thrive? Is Quentin right to flounce because we're all bastards to those unfamiliar with our ways (and spelling, and charisma)? Or is the "hazing" process of being ruthlessly mocked simply the b3tan version of natural selection - survive this and you can stay?
Or was he hounded out because he's a dickhead?
Alt: FILM. Best action movie ever. Sci-fi is allowed, because the correct answer is obviously Aliens.

is that astonishing martial arts prowess aside, the films themselves are not all that.

but Enter the Dragon is fucking brilliant. The Big Boss is a pile of shit. What I've seen of The Game of Death, that would have been a good one. Depends if you're obsessed with kung fu films or not, I suppose.

EtD is certainly the best, not least for his attempts to mangle the English language

parked on a side road, when Lee's leaving his girlfriend's house on a scooter. It was a mustard yellow example and appeared for only a second or two, but made the film for me.

Quentin takes fliddishness to never-before-scaled heights of fliddishness. Heights so dizzyingly high you need an oxygen mask to read his posts.
Others like the splendid Tango never got the shit Quentin does because he is not an epic turd. It's really very easy to avoid: don't be a twat.

In fact, I move that this be included on my popular page. I know, I know, generous.

Aliens is a good call but The Usual Suspects for me. There is some action so its allowed
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 15:54, Reply)
The Usual Suspects is much more than an action movie. To reclassify; I'm looking for films where outrageous violence is intrinsic to the plot, not an addendum to it.

His "reasons" for flouncing were too thin to be believable.
I love that you've included a spelling mistake in your sig, by the way. Very droll.

I didn't realise it already did...

I was setting her up for a "MADE YOU LOOK!!!", but sadly Swipey's grasp of spelling is so poor that she seems to believe it has a spelling mistake when it hasn't, just because I said so.

Cos Terminator 3 has an even better, significantly more female shape changing uber cyborg, and that were right cack.

Aliens is better than Alien
Jaws 2 is better than Jaws
Sequels are nearly always better
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:12, Reply)
Terminator I disagree with, but again, very close
Jaws 2 Jaws = you haven't seen either film
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:20, Reply)
1) Arnie is a shit bad guy in comparison to Robert Patrick
2) Hardcore Linda Hamilton is far better than screaming Linda Hamilton
3) The graphics are incredible.
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:22, Reply)
I wholeheartedly disagree about Arnie, one of the best matches of actor to character I've ever seen.
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:26, Reply)
Or maybe Samuel L Jackson for Jules Winnfield.
And I think it might be due to the fact I didn't see the first until after the second.
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:28, Reply)
certainly makes the original's graphics look shit if you watch the sequel first.
Good shout with the Lecter, btw
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:31, Reply)
I am of the opinion that no-one could portray that character any better.
Then again, whilst it's in a completely different genre, I think Hugh Jackman is pretty much perfect as Logan.
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:36, Reply)
and that was a genius piece of leftfield casting. Australian song-and-dance man as Wolverine? Fuck. Off. And yet it worked perfectly. See also; RDJ as Tony Stark.

(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:30, Reply)
In fact Aliens is my least favourite of the 3, yes 3, not 4, 3.
Aliens lacked the suspense and horror of the other 2.
I have this sequels argument a lot. The ones that appear better like T2 and Godfather 2 are nothing without the original films. Plus terminator is way better than T2, I'd rather have a screaming Linda Hamilton than a whiney little bitch John Conner
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:35, Reply)
And whilst it's an exceptionally strong trilogy, 3 is the weakest, for me. Great idea to take a totally different direction again, but it ended up something of a mess.
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:41, Reply)
Mad Max 2
Evil Dead 2
Godfather 2
Silence of the Lambs
the dark knight
Sequels = better

*looks at AA's t-shirt desparingly*
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:20, Reply)

I view a certain amount of abuse towards newbies as sort of "rite of passage" - I enjoy participating in it and went through the same when I first started posting. Some people get more of a kicking than others and deserve respect for persevering (Darth in particular).
There needs to be a balance between the initiation period (for want of a better description) as it gives people a taste of what to expect and the type of humour on OT and not putting newbies off completely - otherwise with churn over time OT will die a death.
Sockpuppets need to be discouraged - they tend to be a pain in the arse on the whole, with only the occasional rare exception.
Some people need to remember there is a line that shouldn't be crossed (eg Bobby posting mine and my wife's name on here).
People should lurk before they start posting (Quentin) so they get a feel of what OT is like and don't piss everyone off.
lurkers: welcome, come and say hello.
