Still no sign of Quentin
Too early to P-A-R-T-Y as yet, but it raises the question; has b3ta become too harsh an environment for new blood to thrive? Is Quentin right to flounce because we're all bastards to those unfamiliar with our ways (and spelling, and charisma)? Or is the "hazing" process of being ruthlessly mocked simply the b3tan version of natural selection - survive this and you can stay?

Or was he hounded out because he's a dickhead?

Alt: FILM. Best action movie ever. Sci-fi is allowed, because the correct answer is obviously Aliens.
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 15:49, 138 replies, latest was 14 years ago)
Fuck off you bender.
Alt: Enter the Dragon, you oaf.
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 15:52, Reply)
The thing people tend to forget about Enter the Dragon, and indeed all Bruce Lee films
is that astonishing martial arts prowess aside, the films themselves are not all that.
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 15:53, Reply)
You are certainly right about all his other films
but Enter the Dragon is fucking brilliant. The Big Boss is a pile of shit. What I've seen of The Game of Death, that would have been a good one. Depends if you're obsessed with kung fu films or not, I suppose.
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 15:57, Reply)
Honestly, every single one of his films, I've only ever been inclined to watch the fightin'
EtD is certainly the best, not least for his attempts to mangle the English language
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 15:58, Reply)
Game of Death has my all-time favourite ever car
parked on a side road, when Lee's leaving his girlfriend's house on a scooter. It was a mustard yellow example and appeared for only a second or two, but made the film for me.
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 15:58, Reply)
Only people who act like flids get called flids.
Quentin takes fliddishness to never-before-scaled heights of fliddishness. Heights so dizzyingly high you need an oxygen mask to read his posts.

Others like the splendid Tango never got the shit Quentin does because he is not an epic turd. It's really very easy to avoid: don't be a twat.
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 15:56, Reply)
wait, what?

(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 15:57, Reply)
Yes, flidmo?

Nicely put
In fact, I move that this be included on my popular page. I know, I know, generous.

Ahem... I'd like to thank my parents, without whom I wouldn't be standing here before you today; of course, my new /ot friends - I love each and every one of you (not in a gay way though) *winks at Darth*; Rob, without whom we would possibly be doing some work at the moment....

*long, rambling, tearful speech continues ad nauseum*
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:02, Reply)
He was a dick
The constant diet trolling was tedious in the extreme. I believe he managed approx 0 bites

Alt:
Aliens is a good call but The Usual Suspects for me. There is some action so its allowed
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 15:54, Reply)
Is it fuck
The Usual Suspects is much more than an action movie. To reclassify; I'm looking for films where outrageous violence is intrinsic to the plot, not an addendum to it.
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 15:56, Reply)
Operation Condor: Armour of God II then
Amazing fight sequences and funny as fuck

Have I missed Gary having a proper flounce earlier?
If so, link please.
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 15:54, Reply)
Quentin was a sock puppet. And even if he wasn't
the place won't be any worse off without him.

Alt: Ronin.
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 15:55, Reply)
He was hounded out because he's quite obviously a sockpuppet.

(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 15:57, Reply)
he'll be back
life is not that kind.
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 15:58, Reply)
Agreed, sadly
His "reasons" for flouncing were too thin to be believable.

I love that you've included a spelling mistake in your sig, by the way. Very droll.
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 15:59, Reply)
I thought taht sig should have a spelling mistake
I didn't realise it already did...
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:00, Reply)
It hasn't
I was setting her up for a "MADE YOU LOOK!!!", but sadly Swipey's grasp of spelling is so poor that she seems to believe it has a spelling mistake when it hasn't, just because I said so.
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:02, Reply)
Oh burn, out spelled by me!

(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:04, Reply)
Oh thank God
I've been staring at it thinking "what the hell? no it doesn't.."

I was starting to worry that my brain had stopped working entirely.

Alt: Predator, obviously

Also Blood Sport, Terminator 2, and best film of all time Point Break

(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:01, Reply)
Terminator 2 is excellent

(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:04, Reply)
True
You know what's even better? Terminator.
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:06, Reply)
A classic error of judgement here

(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:06, Reply)
You have terrible taste in films.
Terrible.
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:07, Reply)
Does terminator have a shape changing uber cyborg? No?
terminator 2 does
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:08, Reply)
By this working, Terminator 3 is better still as it has tits

(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:10, Reply)
Is that your whole criteria?
Cos Terminator 3 has an even better, significantly more female shape changing uber cyborg, and that were right cack.
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:10, Reply)
I liked Terminator ZING better

(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:11, Reply)
T2 is better than T1
Aliens is better than Alien
Jaws 2 is better than Jaws

Sequels are nearly always better
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:12, Reply)
Oh, I see
You're just taking the piss
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:14, Reply)
How so?

(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:16, Reply)
Aliens > Alien I'll give you, but it's a close run thing
Terminator I disagree with, but again, very close
Jaws 2 Jaws = you haven't seen either film
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:20, Reply)
Tbh, I prefer T2 for a few reasons
1) Arnie is a shit bad guy in comparison to Robert Patrick
2) Hardcore Linda Hamilton is far better than screaming Linda Hamilton
3) The graphics are incredible.
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:22, Reply)
The difference is, the first one is bloody scary
I wholeheartedly disagree about Arnie, one of the best matches of actor to character I've ever seen.
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:26, Reply)
The best for that is probably Anthony Hopkins to Hannibal Lecter
Or maybe Samuel L Jackson for Jules Winnfield.

And I think it might be due to the fact I didn't see the first until after the second.
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:28, Reply)
The 7-year gap between the making of the two films
certainly makes the original's graphics look shit if you watch the sequel first.

Good shout with the Lecter, btw
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:31, Reply)
Danke
I am of the opinion that no-one could portray that character any better.

Then again, whilst it's in a completely different genre, I think Hugh Jackman is pretty much perfect as Logan.
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:36, Reply)
Agreed
and that was a genius piece of leftfield casting. Australian song-and-dance man as Wolverine? Fuck. Off. And yet it worked perfectly. See also; RDJ as Tony Stark.
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:39, Reply)
RDJ is fucking superb as Iron Man
My friend hates him for no apparent reason, and as such, thinks Iron Man is shit. He's not the brightest.
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:40, Reply)
yes i have and I prefer the2nd one, fuck all happens in the first

(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:23, Reply)
YES IT DOES!!!!!!!!

Jesus fucking Christ on some kind of bouncing stick device
I like you, Nakers, genuinely I do, but that was a ludicrously daft thing to say.
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:27, Reply)
What happens, some foilk get a bit nibbled, nothing, people go out in a boat and explode a rubbish fake shark
Bor-ring.
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:29, Reply)
I've just read your "Die Hard 4 yeah?" post down below and am now more convinced than ever that this is a wind-up
Either that or you were Quentin all along
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:30, Reply)
This is wrong
In fact Aliens is my least favourite of the 3, yes 3, not 4, 3.

Aliens lacked the suspense and horror of the other 2.

I have this sequels argument a lot. The ones that appear better like T2 and Godfather 2 are nothing without the original films. Plus terminator is way better than T2, I'd rather have a screaming Linda Hamilton than a whiney little bitch John Conner
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:35, Reply)
You are correct. There are only 3 Alien films.
And whilst it's an exceptionally strong trilogy, 3 is the weakest, for me. Great idea to take a totally different direction again, but it ended up something of a mess.
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:41, Reply)
Aliens had no involvement from H.R. Giger
it shows
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:51, Reply)
Also
Mad Max 2
Evil Dead 2
Godfather 2
Silence of the Lambs
the dark knight

Sequels = better
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:19, Reply)
I prefer Red Dragon to Silence Of The Lambs

(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:19, Reply)
But we all know that you have no taste
*looks at AA's t-shirt desparingly*
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:20, Reply)
I just can't fucking stand Jodie Foster.

(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:23, Reply)
Good examples all
Except Silence of the Lambs can hardly be considered a direct sequel to Manhunter, sharing no common aspects save source material.
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:21, Reply)
And the film that was later taken from the same source material is far better than the original.

(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:23, Reply)
To argue against this
Pirates Of The Carribean, The Matrix, Predator, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Omen, and several others.
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:19, Reply)
i liked the Matrix sequels

(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:19, Reply)
In comparison to the first one though?

(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:20, Reply)
yes, more bad guys, bigger fights etc etc
what's not to like?
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:22, Reply)
A single Agent Smith is far better than the 5,000,000+ of him there were.
Worse CGI, worse plotlines, more annoying characters.
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:24, Reply)
They were overblown pompous shite?

Oh, I see, again.
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:24, Reply)
Wrong.

(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:07, Reply)
Blood Sport apart, all classic

(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:05, Reply)
Blood Sport is excellent, even better than kickboxer

(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:07, Reply)
Not a fan

(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:10, Reply)
What? Point Break is fucking awful.
It's a film aimed entirely at benders.

Oh I see.
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:10, Reply)
Because he's a dickhead
Alt: Can you argue 'Taken' as being an action film, as that's one of my favourites?
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:01, Reply)
That is a very good film.
Lots of people getting shot right in the face.
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:02, Reply)
Stupid, stupid film
Did Liam Neeson have a midlife crsis and decided he suddenly wanted to be an action star?
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:02, Reply)
If he did, he's fucking good as it
That film is excellent.
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:03, Reply)
No it's not, it's silly

(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:05, Reply)
Considering that above you rate a JCVD film, are you really entitled to make comment on what is silly and what isn't?

(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:07, Reply)
Kickboxer is ace.

(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:09, Reply)
I'm not debating it's ace, I love the film
But it is very, very silly.
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:16, Reply)
he is massively underated, i've never seen another actor do the splits suspended between two raised objects as well as he does
I'd also like to add Under Siege to the list
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:09, Reply)
i just felt the need to disrupt the chevron
like stomping on a sandcastle
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:12, Reply)
Oddly, there is a wrestler called Rob Van Dam, named for his physical likeness
Who has invented a lifting position which involves being in the splits between two raised objects and reaching down.

Action movies:

Total Recall ("if I'm not me, den hoo da hell am I?")
Predator
Starship Troopers
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:09, Reply)
I prefer Running man to Total recall

Good film as well
However TR features Sharon Stone looking smoking hot, plus a burd with 3 tits.

I win.

A serious answer to the question.
I view a certain amount of abuse towards newbies as sort of "rite of passage" - I enjoy participating in it and went through the same when I first started posting. Some people get more of a kicking than others and deserve respect for persevering (Darth in particular).

There needs to be a balance between the initiation period (for want of a better description) as it gives people a taste of what to expect and the type of humour on OT and not putting newbies off completely - otherwise with churn over time OT will die a death.

Sockpuppets need to be discouraged - they tend to be a pain in the arse on the whole, with only the occasional rare exception.

Some people need to remember there is a line that shouldn't be crossed (eg Bobby posting mine and my wife's name on here).

People should lurk before they start posting (Quentin) so they get a feel of what OT is like and don't piss everyone off.

lurkers: welcome, come and say hello.
(, Wed 16 Nov 2011, 16:27, Reply)
Quentin set out to offend.
He can fuck off.
