I've been sleeping on a Super king size (yes the size is important) mattress on the floor for the last 3 years, because it was free when I moved and I couldn't afford a bed at the time. Recently I have been craving a proper bed. As luck would have it I have just seen as super kingsize frame of a style I like on eBay for £80 in delivery.
It's not the time of year I should really be spending money on anything but chrisytmas but I'd be willing to go into my overdraft for this, and it's really very cheap for the size.
One problem: Delivery.
I get my small eBay stuff delivered to work, but this is too big really. I'd take a day of to receive it t home but: "We will ship your purchase within 48 hours after receiving your payment and it should arrive at your location within 4 businessdays after being dispatched. " so that's a pretty big window and I don't think I'd be able to guarantee a given day to take off.
Am I basically fucked here? ANy ideas?

Alt: I want built in bookshelves next to and over the top of the defunct fireplace in my lounge, but I'm too cack handed to build them.

New sofa.
It's a bit rich to expect someone to wait around for a delivery for four days. Surely they can narrow the delivery time down somewhat?

What's it made of? Balsa wood?

It's far too unreasonable.

I could do a man with van to get it home but I don't think they'd be happy getting it delivered here...

if they call you an hour before they get there, you can go back and let them in. Let your work know that you're getting a delivery and they should be cool with it.

Apparently it's UPS ,any idea if they would do this? They have a rep for not being helpful.

We will send you a confirmation e-mail once we have received your Paypal payment.
We will ship your purchase within 48 hours after receiving your payment and it should arrive at your location within 4 businessdays after being dispatched. Please leave the correct shipping address at the eBay check-out.
Some products are shipped in more than one parcel. Although they are shipped together, they are not always delivered the same day.
You will receive an automatically generated e-mail including a UPS tracking number as soon as the item is being dispatched. With this number you can trace your item online at: www.ups.com/
Please note it can take up to 24 hours before the item can be tracked on the UPS website.
If you have not received your UPS tracking number, please let us know by sending us an eBay message or e-mail.
It is not possible to pick up your purchase as we use third part logistics.

The drivers will find it a bit of a pain, but they'd rather deliver a bed than have to unload it again at the end of the day.

The most obvious solution, as suggested above, is to bribe someone to hang around in the flat for a few days.
What you could try, and most sellers should be okay with this, is to organise your own courier, who will collect the bed on a specified date from the seller and deliver on a specified date to you. You could ask them for a reduction in the price as you'd be paying for your own delivery. If they refuse, they're cunts anyway and you don't want their stinking bedframe.
Otherwise, you could get them to let you know the tracking number for the courier they use, and phone them (the courier) direct. They'd be able to give you a fairly good idea of what date the delivery would be.

Phone in the courier that is. I'll see how flexible work are about me taking off for half a day at some point this week.

If they're a shop, they're normally attached to a phsyical store or warehouse of some kind and therefore would have a procedure of selling that's outside of ebay... send a 'seller question' or even better a phone number, and ask them if you/they can specify a day.
(, Mon 21 Nov 2011, 13:19, Reply)
They say pick up not an option. I assume the low price is due to having a pile of thses frames in a warehouse.
(, Mon 21 Nov 2011, 13:26, Reply)
By the time you include delivery and the hassle of being home for X days, is it really a cheaper option than somewhere more mainstream or local?

I've not seen a bed frame I'd have in my house for less than twice that, which I just can't afford for a while.

I've given up trying to get into work today and will work from home. When I told my manager what I did this weekend he was like "Holy fuck !", which is quite cool, considering we got quoted a _starting_ price of £25k and I've managed to do a big chunk of it in a weekend, when it's something well beyond my remit.

i'd love a chaise longue from squint, or one of their chairs for my spare room, but they are about £8,000 a pop.
