Help me oh collective brain of B3ta!
I've been sleeping on a Super king size (yes the size is important) mattress on the floor for the last 3 years, because it was free when I moved and I couldn't afford a bed at the time. Recently I have been craving a proper bed. As luck would have it I have just seen as super kingsize frame of a style I like on eBay for £80 in delivery.

It's not the time of year I should really be spending money on anything but chrisytmas but I'd be willing to go into my overdraft for this, and it's really very cheap for the size.

One problem: Delivery.

I get my small eBay stuff delivered to work, but this is too big really. I'd take a day of to receive it t home but: "We will ship your purchase within 48 hours after receiving your payment and it should arrive at your location within 4 businessdays after being dispatched. " so that's a pretty big window and I don't think I'd be able to guarantee a given day to take off.

Am I basically fucked here? ANy ideas?

No retired relatives who may be able to take delivery and maybe drive it to your door in return for a bottle of scotch or something?
Alt: I want built in bookshelves next to and over the top of the defunct fireplace in my lounge, but I'm too cack handed to build them.

Why don't you sleep on it.

Get your mum to wait in for it.
New sofa.

It's a bit rich to expect someone to wait around for a delivery for four days. Surely they can narrow the delivery time down somewhat?
(, Mon 21 Nov 2011, 13:09, Reply)
Also...........£80 for a super king size frame.
What's it made of? Balsa wood?
(, Mon 21 Nov 2011, 13:19, Reply)
Metal frame
Looks OK one reason I want to snap it up it's stupid cheap for what it is. Will gaz you a link.

this is possible I suppose
But you've seen my flat. 4 days shut int there not able to bgo out is cruela and unusual punishment.

(, Mon 21 Nov 2011, 13:22, Reply)
I still think you should get them to narrow the delivery time down.
It's far too unreasonable.
(, Mon 21 Nov 2011, 13:24, Reply)
this may be another reason for the low price

How far do you live from your work?

(, Mon 21 Nov 2011, 13:14, Reply)
5 miles
I could do a man with van to get it home but I don't think they'd be happy getting it delivered here...
(, Mon 21 Nov 2011, 13:21, Reply)
I was thinking more, get hold of the courier and give them your number
if they call you an hour before they get there, you can go back and let them in. Let your work know that you're getting a delivery and they should be cool with it.
(, Mon 21 Nov 2011, 13:22, Reply)
Good Idea, might work
Apparently it's UPS ,any idea if they would do this? They have a rep for not being helpful.
(, Mon 21 Nov 2011, 13:24, Reply)
They should at least be able to tell what day they're delivering.

(, Mon 21 Nov 2011, 13:25, Reply)
Can you not track the delivery then?

(, Mon 21 Nov 2011, 13:25, Reply)
His is all the info they give:
We will send you a confirmation e-mail once we have received your Paypal payment.

We will ship your purchase within 48 hours after receiving your payment and it should arrive at your location within 4 businessdays after being dispatched. Please leave the correct shipping address at the eBay check-out.

Some products are shipped in more than one parcel. Although they are shipped together, they are not always delivered the same day.

You will receive an automatically generated e-mail including a UPS tracking number as soon as the item is being dispatched. With this number you can trace your item online at: www.ups.com/

Please note it can take up to 24 hours before the item can be tracked on the UPS website.

If you have not received your UPS tracking number, please let us know by sending us an eBay message or e-mail.

It is not possible to pick up your purchase as we use third part logistics.
(, Mon 21 Nov 2011, 13:31, Reply)
So you'd be able to track via UPS at least?

(, Mon 21 Nov 2011, 13:32, Reply)
SO it seams.
I have emailed them with an enquiry.
(, Mon 21 Nov 2011, 14:08, Reply)
They should be able to do it.
The drivers will find it a bit of a pain, but they'd rather deliver a bed than have to unload it again at the end of the day.
(, Mon 21 Nov 2011, 13:26, Reply)
jus down the road

(, Mon 21 Nov 2011, 13:35, Reply)
I guess this is as close to my field of expertise as it gets these days
The most obvious solution, as suggested above, is to bribe someone to hang around in the flat for a few days.

What you could try, and most sellers should be okay with this, is to organise your own courier, who will collect the bed on a specified date from the seller and deliver on a specified date to you. You could ask them for a reduction in the price as you'd be paying for your own delivery. If they refuse, they're cunts anyway and you don't want their stinking bedframe.

Otherwise, you could get them to let you know the tracking number for the courier they use, and phone them (the courier) direct. They'd be able to give you a fairly good idea of what date the delivery would be.
(, Mon 21 Nov 2011, 13:14, Reply)
Where would someone who lives in a rough part of London find someone to hang around outside their flat and watch when they're in or not?

(, Mon 21 Nov 2011, 13:25, Reply)
I might try this.
Phone in the courier that is. I'll see how flexible work are about me taking off for half a day at some point this week.

Thanks for taking the time to explain all of that. Living in a communist bedsit seems to have it's ups and downs, a rollercoaster of emotion if you will.

Haha!

(, Mon 21 Nov 2011, 13:19, Reply)
Are they a 'shop' or a 'private seller'?
If they're a shop, they're normally attached to a phsyical store or warehouse of some kind and therefore would have a procedure of selling that's outside of ebay... send a 'seller question' or even better a phone number, and ask them if you/they can specify a day.
(, Mon 21 Nov 2011, 13:19, Reply)
shop
They say pick up not an option. I assume the low price is due to having a pile of thses frames in a warehouse.
(, Mon 21 Nov 2011, 13:26, Reply)
Probably a white-label (or blue label (or black label ( I can never remember )))... where it goes straight from manufacturer or distributer to the punter.
By the time you include delivery and the hassle of being home for X days, is it really a cheaper option than somewhere more mainstream or local?
(, Mon 21 Nov 2011, 13:30, Reply)
Delivery is included in the £80
I've not seen a bed frame I'd have in my house for less than twice that, which I just can't afford for a while.
(, Mon 21 Nov 2011, 13:34, Reply)
Ahh, coolio. Yeah', £80 is quite resonable for one you want if you bung in the dilivery and all that.
I know it's Octom's Razer here, but have tried contacting them about getting a specific delivery daY?

Haha, I'm loving some political rap at the moment, so thought I'd type it out.
I've given up trying to get into work today and will work from home. When I told my manager what I did this weekend he was like "Holy fuck !", which is quite cool, considering we got quoted a _starting_ price of £25k and I've managed to do a big chunk of it in a weekend, when it's something well beyond my remit.

I really want a nice TV cabinet.
I've been looking for one for ages. The trouble is, I have quite specific requirements, both in form and function and I can't find something that matches both.

build one

I have thought about it.

I'd like some new sofas
the flat I'm renting has two 2-seaters but they're knackered - big dip in the middle of each and the cushions are sewn in.

Have a friend wait in at your place for you?
It worked for me when I had a mattress being delivered.

they might be willing to do a one-off delivery deal

i'd love a chaise longue from squint, or one of their chairs for my spare room, but they are about £8,000 a pop.
