^ not enough enjoyment here ^
You still have this evening to improve your score, so do so otherwise your end of term report will read "capable of better, must try harder".

I have beer with tiquila but that's more to drown my sorrows than improve my evening.
I shouldn't be here really but you know what it's like. Can't not post something.

Actually bump up the enjoyment to one.
I've found a pair of shoes I like in the sale, just got to pray they still have the size 9s left by the time my grant comes next week.

Evening.

5 (would have been 1, but I managed a load of laundry and two loads of dishes today)
5 (the days have been okay, but the nights are horrendous. I keep coughing myself awake)

I took a photo this morning of a scooter for sale at the boot sale. The make was a TGB. Apparently it had only done 700 miles.
(, Sun 15 Jan 2012, 19:18, Reply)
B3th, I've just gone through your pic-a-day album, I love some of those shots ! You got an interesting eye for things.
I'm not even going to begin to go where everyone else will expect me to do about that bike.
(, Sun 15 Jan 2012, 19:20, Reply)
Aw, thank you.
But I keep comparing my shots to other, better photographers, and they seem really .... I don't know what. Amateurish, I suppose. Maybe I'm just too close to them to judge.
(, Sun 15 Jan 2012, 19:24, Reply)
1. look at photographers. Proper ones like Edward Weston, Bill Brandt* for example (not the shit that keeps turning up on flickr)
2.work out what makes their pictures ace (composition, light, tone, viewpoint, etc.)
3. do that.
4. practise - you don't get to be perfect at photography straight away, that's not how it works in anything else, why should photography be different? You've got a good start, now keep at it.

* or more documentary ones like Martin Parr, William Eggleston, etc.
(, Sun 15 Jan 2012, 19:34, Reply)
oh yeah, that does sound mean
i actually think your pictures are all right, it was meant to be encouraging.

Thank you.

(, Sun 15 Jan 2012, 19:40, Reply)
oh, i feel like i said bad things
it's basically what i say about 1 million times a day, but it looks harsh written down.
(, Sun 15 Jan 2012, 19:42, Reply)
It's good advice, I've put your previous advice into practice this past few months.

(, Sun 15 Jan 2012, 19:46, Reply)
:)
yay!
(, Sun 15 Jan 2012, 19:52, Reply)
No, don't feel bad.
You're perfectly qualified to give me advice in this field.
I keep thinking I like the composition of what I take, but when I come to process them it never seems to crop right, or the colour balance is off. I haven't ever studied photography, which is probably why. mr b3th studied for four years, and his pictures are absolutely excellent. Especially his portraits. The man has a real gift.
(, Sun 15 Jan 2012, 19:48, Reply)
The only tips I can give, with no qualifications whatsoever, are:
* take your camera everywhere and whatever catches your eye, take a few shots of it
* learn the ins and outs of your camera and what each function does, so you can customise your shooting to the situation or outcome you want
* practice, practice, practice
Oh and your photos aren't as bad as you think they are. Try not to compare yourself with other photographers and enjoy taking pictures for YOU.
(, Sun 15 Jan 2012, 19:51, Reply)
I'm hoping this project will help along those lines.
And that there'll be some kind of visible progression by teh end of the year.
(, Sun 15 Jan 2012, 19:53, Reply)
I've already found that constantly having my camera with me for the project is causing me to think about shots.
I keep spotting things out of the corner of my eye when I'm driving and thinking "That looks interesting" - like the angel in the graveyard. I drove past it at the start of the week and saw a couple of quirky buildings and stopped later in the week. The buildings were good but the graves, flowers and surrounding flora and fauna were much more interesting. It's a good excuse to go exploring.
(, Sun 15 Jan 2012, 19:55, Reply)
this^^
get inspiration not competition
(, Sun 15 Jan 2012, 19:54, Reply)
i think the key is to take lots of images of a thing to explore it
this, i reckon, is the problem with the 'one a day' approach.

Composition tip: look at the WHOLE of the viewfinder/LCD and arrange stuff in it. You control the picture and you are MAKING an image, not just taking a likeness of a thing.

Also, some pictures are best without the over-thinking. Photography is not always what people think it is.
(, Sun 15 Jan 2012, 19:52, Reply)
I'm not 'only' taking one a day
just publishing the one I like best out of teh ones I take. Well, mostly. There have been two days where I only managed one picture, so I just had to publish that one.
(, Sun 15 Jan 2012, 19:54, Reply)
good good!
that's the best way :)
(, Sun 15 Jan 2012, 19:55, Reply)
That's the beauty of the digital camera.
When I've visited somewhere special before (you know, back in the olden days) I'd end up with three or four rolls of pictures to get two or three shots worth showing.
(, Sun 15 Jan 2012, 19:57, Reply)
Feel free to post some of your other favourite images from the day in another album.
I posted my "one" and a few others from today's walk. Nowt wrong with that.

But I pity people who get angry when their team lose. If Fulham win I will fucking milk it for all it's worth, if we lose I'm fucked off for an hour and then it's gone. I actually think it's quite funny we lost to a ten man Blackburn.

6 - 8.5 mile hilly walk today, my legs ache and my feet are buzzing in a good way.
7 - good walk today, went and saw some friends in the pub yesterday afternoon and got some cuddles with a six-month old boy. LOLPEEDO.
9 - it's been a pretty good one, I reckon I could do with a lie-in tomorrow though.

6 - I could do with a bit of exersise if the opertunity took me, if you know what I mean, I mean sex, if you know what I mean.
7 - I wanted to get my code on, but didn't, but I did clean the flat inside'n'out, imaculate, went shopping twice, found a really amazing local rib joint.
7 - It was a good time, did mostly everything I wanted to do, was very chilled out, I'm ready to start the week next week. It wasn't "fun" it it was what I wanted to do.

tired 4
productive 4
enjoyed 4 [it was originally 3 but I added a point because I had a good time watching big bang theory this morning, and sheldon tickles my fancy]

my workings are thus: friday I was bored out of my mind, yesterday I spent a portion of the day cleaning my former residence, and then the other portion preparing for a date which was subsequently cancelled, and so I got into debt and had some wine, beer and vodka, didn't sleep well, woke with heart burn. I'm tired because I didn't get quality sleep, it wasn't productive because I didn't do anything of my own that needed to be done, and it wasn't enjoyable.

My weekend has just gone to fucking zero.
Just had a call from my oldest (and one of my best) friend(s).

His dad has died. I learned an incredible amount from him. I worked on their farm at weekends and holidays from 14-17 and he taught me respect for wildlife and not to be afraid of hard work.

GUTTED.

So
Tired - 40%
Productive - 90% - worked yesterday and today, and went out last night
Enjoyable - 25% - for last night. Work has primarily involved arguing with Eastern Europeans in Dewsbury about the condition they're leaving their properties in.

One for the EDL and Daily Mail - Eastern Europeans are leaving in droves at the moment due to vegball related opportunities back home.
(, Sun 15 Jan 2012, 19:48, Reply)
Nope, no matter how hard I look, I can't find out what a vegball is, unless you mean the gnome food you can make at level 35.

Productive - Acheived very little in physical terms but, I managed the above ride, a guided walk around the 'Old City' of london yesterday and generally relaxed and enjoyed my self with people and doing things that I'm been wanting to do for a while. Oh, and now I think about it I've vaccumed, done the washing up and 2 loads of washing and fixed the lights on a bike.

Enjoyment - See above really, other than New Years I've not had a better weekend in aaaaages.

He will be blown out of the door by my sartorial elegance.

I doubt it, unless you have something very very special in store.

I am a Country Gent at heart
And dress appropriately.
(, Sun 15 Jan 2012, 21:22, Reply)
Oh dear.

(, Sun 15 Jan 2012, 21:23, Reply)
I live the life.
I own two gun dogs. I drive a 4wd Suzuki.

Admittedly I also own two 1950's coaches and spend a lot of time under them in a boilersuit but what do you want, eh?
(, Sun 15 Jan 2012, 21:28, Reply)
I hope this means you don't wear brown shoes to town during the week.
A country gent never should.

Also cufflinks should only be worn with a double cuff shirt.
(, Sun 15 Jan 2012, 21:27, Reply)
Of course cufflinks should only be worn with French cuffs.
How vulgar is it when one sees the plebs wearing them with button cuffs? And a gentleman should always wear a Windsor collar.
(, Sun 15 Jan 2012, 21:28, Reply)
I only ever wear suede boots.
Except when fucking about under the above admissions.
(, Sun 15 Jan 2012, 21:30, Reply)
They wear blouses

(, Sun 15 Jan 2012, 21:10, Reply)

Very good.
I hadn't noticed that.
(, Sun 15 Jan 2012, 21:12, Reply)
Room 101 could make a good question topic for during the week.
Who can I delegate this to?
(, Sun 15 Jan 2012, 21:19, Reply)
Make it an OT subject and see if it had legs.

(, Sun 15 Jan 2012, 21:20, Reply)
I meant as an OT topic as I think it has been done for QOTW in the past

(, Sun 15 Jan 2012, 21:24, Reply)

Not me
I work for a living, but I'd be interested in the results.
(, Sun 15 Jan 2012, 21:24, Reply)
I am tempted to take all these stat's and calculate the average tiredness, productiveness and enjoyment of the average OT'er
However do we have a statistically significant sample?

PS - thanks for the messages re my mate's dad.
(, Sun 15 Jan 2012, 21:13, Reply)
You should ask the same question on a Friday afternoon and then again on a Sunday night.

(, Sun 15 Jan 2012, 21:14, Reply)
perhaps with our projected
numbers for the next time - ie how tired/productive/fun will you're weekend be. We can work out a disappointment scale
(, Sun 15 Jan 2012, 21:17, Reply)
Could take it further and do so for 26 weeks, then remove seasonality etc and extrapolate for the rest of the year.
I think I'd need some basic neural network software (does Clementine still exist?) to run the extrapolation. Don't think there are enough of us to segment by age, gender, geography etc though.
(, Sun 15 Jan 2012, 21:18, Reply)
Or you could do something more productive with your time.
There must be some odd socks in your house somewhere.
(, Sun 15 Jan 2012, 21:18, Reply)
My house is too organised for that. I have spreadsheets and gant charts for most things.
I am also tempted to build a predictive model on when laundry and other domestic tasks should be done, based on the last 12 weeks.

I need to get a job. I love analytics (*awaits stikethough*).
(, Sun 15 Jan 2012, 21:21, Reply)
I'm an analyst.
So no strikethrough from me!
(, Sun 15 Jan 2012, 21:23, Reply)
i consider you all analists

(, Sun 15 Jan 2012, 21:19, Reply)
Very true.

(, Sun 15 Jan 2012, 21:23, Reply)
I am neither average nor significant
And I sympathise, or empathise.
(, Sun 15 Jan 2012, 21:16, Reply)
That just makes you sound overweight and unimportant.

(, Sun 15 Jan 2012, 21:17, Reply)
