I know not of these chaps

Also, the 'biggest thing to happen in the UK in several years?'
I've told you a million times not to exaggerate, Monty.

Sorry, hip hop is dull and this is boring.

Both of these statements are true.
You fail, even at being a cunt.

I saw Wu Tang Klan at Glastonbury
so I'm really into hip hop.
(, Thu 26 Jan 2012, 15:33, Reply)
fuck me 33 quid, nah I'm alright.

(, Thu 26 Jan 2012, 15:36, Reply)
Did you really just say you'd been to Glastonbury and in the same breath whinge about a £33 gig?
You prannock.
(, Thu 26 Jan 2012, 15:40, Reply)
£189 for 4 days of music
or £33 for four hours.
(, Thu 26 Jan 2012, 15:42, Reply)
Unless you're a proper crusty and go in on a wednesday and don't buy any food or drink then glasto works out about a hundred quid a night.
Your arithmetic is shit.
(, Thu 26 Jan 2012, 15:44, Reply)
Well yeah, but I'm not comparing full costs I'm comparing ticket prices.
I could add £30 for travel to the gig, £20 for food and booze, another £60 if I want to get a hotel.

And I do go on the wednesday, it's awesome.
(, Thu 26 Jan 2012, 15:47, Reply)
I could add five thousand pounds for hiring a fucking RV if I wanted to.
£33 isn't expensive for an all-stars gig and it isn't expensive compared to Glasto.
(, Thu 26 Jan 2012, 15:52, Reply)
I thought you only went for the vibe, maan?

(, Thu 26 Jan 2012, 15:44, Reply)
That and the drugs obviously.

lol

(, Thu 26 Jan 2012, 16:21, Reply)
I currently own four records which could (loosely or otherwise) be classified within the "hip hop" genre.
I'm slowly working my way through various bands to see if it appeals.
The Juice Crew Allstars are not currently included in this plan.
(, Thu 26 Jan 2012, 15:35, Reply)
Is one of those by Jazzy Jeff?

Monty's only going because it sounds like Jew Screw All Stars if you say it fast enough.

(, Thu 26 Jan 2012, 15:39, Reply)
Each of the artists on that bill would make for a fucking brilliant night out –
individually they all made fantastic records between about 1987 and 1990, genre-defining classics in a good few instances. To see the whole lot in one night is nothing short of spectacular and something I never thought I would have the opportunity to witness. It’s not my fault you’re all ignorant benders, is it?
(, Thu 26 Jan 2012, 15:44, Reply)
That was over 20 years ago
They'll all be fat and in their 40s. It'll be like dads dancing at a wedding.
(, Thu 26 Jan 2012, 17:15, Reply)
Can't say I've ever got into hip-hop myself.
What else can you recommend for me?

Drugs and poverty, LOL

Is...this a recommendation?

(, Thu 26 Jan 2012, 15:49, Reply)
If you like, yes...

(, Thu 26 Jan 2012, 15:49, Reply)
Most of it is terrible. I recommend ‘Stoned Guitar’ by The Human Instinct. Late 60s fuzzy rock made by Kiwis.

(, Thu 26 Jan 2012, 15:51, Reply)
Have you been following any of the Persian/other forrin late 60s stuff that has been getting the reissue treatment recently?
Some of it is rather good.
(, Thu 26 Jan 2012, 15:57, Reply)
I did briefly almost start to get a glimmer of possibly understanding it towards the end of last year
I got hired to play bass on some guy's hip-hop record (still waiting for the finished album to materialise now I think about it...) but I think it was mostly because I was playing over samples of old Soul records that made it enjoyable.

Found the Human Instinct track you mentioned on youtube. Title seems to sum up the introduction quite nicely. Nice jam that, reminds me of some of Quintessence's guitar instrumentals.
(, Thu 26 Jan 2012, 15:58, Reply)
I tried to start at the beginning
And bought this: www.honestjons.com/shop.php?pid=30211
and this: www.honestjons.com/shop.php?pid=30210
Apart from the famous songs, the rest of is fairly mediocre disco/soul.
(, Thu 26 Jan 2012, 15:55, Reply)
Sorry, that doesn't tempt me at all.
There are some fucking spectacular metal tours this year though -
Going to this
Also going to this
Fucking gutted I can't go to this

All such happy bands.

(, Thu 26 Jan 2012, 15:52, Reply)
Only reason I've even heard of it is due to you mentioning it in your story about farting at McDonalds

(, Thu 26 Jan 2012, 15:53, Reply)
Well remembered
If only that story had even the slightest basis in truth
(, Thu 26 Jan 2012, 15:59, Reply)
Aside from my terrible jokes, my QOTW stories are all true, sadly.

(, Thu 26 Jan 2012, 16:18, Reply)
Happy hardcore started in the eighties, didn't it?
Bloody close to, anyway.

People often erroneously disregard the entire 1980s because they are only aware of chart music from that era
By that same standard they would also most likely dismiss current music/their own preferred decade. They are fools. There were many incredible albums recorded in that decade.

You can't compare a genre to an entire decade. Every decade plumbs the depths of awfulness.

I wasn't.
I should have said 'everything' rather than 'anything'.

Ah right.
In that case the answer is going to be 'no' for any genre since the 1980s gave us Frankie's Power of Love which is the second greatest song ever written.
