Keeping on the political thread.
Are you bothering to vote on the police commissioner thing? Sometime next month.
Does voting change stuff, or is it just an excuse for the establishment to keep us in the crap?
Alt, lunch?

I'll probably vote, I should probably find out who's standing before that happens though.

(, Mon 22 Oct 2012, 14:07, Reply)
Just had a look, I'll go for the Labour one as he's a barrister who's taken an interest in human trafficing.

(, Mon 22 Oct 2012, 14:11, Reply)
Our local candidate is the ex Labour MP,
So I assume he'll get it. If you put a dead chimp here that's on the Labour ticket, it'll get in.

if i hired a commissioner, say his name was gordon
and it turned out this commissioner "gordon" affiliated with a known vigilante who was wanted for murder and various other public order offences

they could sack him, and me for hiring him. K?

yes, as it should be.
fuck this voting nonsense.
VOTE FOR DENT!!!
(, Mon 22 Oct 2012, 14:29, Reply)
i agree, but the fact is there will always be corrupt officials
and those that hire them want to protect themselves

unless the hirer is corrupt as well
(, Mon 22 Oct 2012, 14:32, Reply)
I'm torn on this
My instinct is that it is probably a bad idea, but then not voting won't change that.

Ian Blair has suggested that people should not vote, in protest. But firstly how could you tell the protesting non-voters from the larger group of apathetic non-voters; secondly Ian Blair is a prick.
Looking down the list of candidates I think I ought to vote, if only to prevent the prick tory, who is clearly only in it because he lost his council seat and the fat-faced UKIP guy, who has proven himself to be a prick by being a member of UKIP.

Voting could change things, if everyone did it.

I don't really like voting,
it's always organised by dull old people, and I don't trust those arthritis riddled, dementia cunts not to fuck it up.
(, Mon 22 Oct 2012, 15:14, Reply)
I know it's rubbish and all that,
but if you don't keep at least a bit of an eye on it, then things can build up and laws might get through that make it all worse.
(, Mon 22 Oct 2012, 15:25, Reply)
I really want to give a shit Jimbo,
i really do. But politicians are all such pricks.
(, Mon 22 Oct 2012, 15:29, Reply)
Yes they are - I totally agree.
But you need to let them know that and the best way is by being active in voting - they fear losing votes more than anything.
(, Mon 22 Oct 2012, 15:35, Reply)
they faer loosing votes
so we should vote????
(, Mon 22 Oct 2012, 15:36, Reply)
Vote for someone else.
The main problem with all politics is that the "swing" as in the people that change their minds from one election to the next is so tiny that politicians can pretty much get away with anything unless they're in a marginal seat.
(, Mon 22 Oct 2012, 15:38, Reply)
Yeah, well we blew our chance to change the voting system.

(, Mon 22 Oct 2012, 15:39, Reply)
we?

(, Mon 22 Oct 2012, 15:40, Reply)
Proportional representation still has the same problem.
It's the people that go my parents voted con/lab/lib as did their parents before them that fuck everything up.
(, Mon 22 Oct 2012, 15:41, Reply)
It's con/lab/lib/ukip/green that fuck everything up by being WTN

(, Mon 22 Oct 2012, 15:47, Reply)
I have voted for several someone elses
they never got in. my seat is far from marginal.
(, Mon 22 Oct 2012, 15:40, Reply)
Well good for you, but there is a problem with voters as the whole not individuals.

(, Mon 22 Oct 2012, 15:42, Reply)
not really it was a waste of my time and effort
I don't think i'll waste any more of it.
(, Mon 22 Oct 2012, 15:43, Reply)
Whoever you voted for may have lost their deposit if you didn't vote for them.

(, Mon 22 Oct 2012, 15:46, Reply)
Thanks - that was my point: vote for someone else.
The thing is, you have to try and at least give them a hard time.
(, Mon 22 Oct 2012, 15:42, Reply)
yeah, it's done sweet FA so far.
safe labour seat = voted for 3-4 people over the years who weren't labour, still got labour.

cheers this thread has decided me no point wasting the time any more
(, Mon 22 Oct 2012, 15:45, Reply)
Don't bother then - it's easier not to worry about it.
Where I lived during the last general election went from Lib Dem to Tory, but there were only about 200 votes in it.

Fair enough,
but what would you like to do to your bank when it charges you for something and you think that's unfair? At least in politics you can try to make a change?
(, Mon 22 Oct 2012, 15:46, Reply)

and I can change banks

I just read this lol "joke" on the daily mail
"A driver was stuck in a traffic jam on the M25. Nothing was moving. Suddenly, a man knocks on the window. The driver rolls down the window and asks, "What's going on?" "English nationalists have kidnapped all of our MP's during a sitting of parliament, and they're asking for a £100 billion ransom. Otherwise, they are going to douse them all in petrol and set them on fire. So we are going from car to car collecting donations." "How much is everyone giving, on average?" the driver asks. The man replies, "Roughly a gallon."
