It's my 40th in a few months and my family are asking me for gift ideas.
Help me out with some humorous or ideally sensible suggestions please.
Alt: there's a right old hoo-hah about the footage of that Woolwich shit. The perpetrators were obviously desperate for the the world media attention. Would it have been better to have denied them the oxygen of publicity and not shown it, or is that suppression of information and a bit police state-y?

But giving them exposure will probably ultimately kill them off.
There used to be a policy of not covering anything that the BNP did.
After that policy was dropped they gained some ground and even some seats in local councils and European parliament, but that became their undoing as people realised they are a bunch of useless racists.

and get past the fact he's just killed some poor guy. He's talking total bollocks, is a mixture of embarrassed and excited about what he's doing and doesn't really understand the political motives about what he's just done.
I'd hardly call it a great advert for extremism.

Just bored with stressing about what is essentially an insignificant amount of money, decided it was time to do something about it before it got worse.

If necessary, they'll lend me a certain amount of cash to get me started, then go from there.
If they simply paid it off for me, wouldn't exactly be a lesson learned.
( , Tue 28 May 2013, 9:45, Reply)

I can tell you what, though - the 5 year IVA I'm in is a lesson too far.

Planning meals will save you about ~£10 if you're cooking for yourself, which isn't that much. There's much better ways to cut down outgoings.

Oddly enough, most of the stuff i've chosen is vegeterian, but thats coincidence.
Tonight I'm making a tabouley salad with halumni.

Trip away is a great idea though - nice thinking, Sportspaki.

So this weekend I moved most of my stuff, all the flatmate's stuff, did a massive shop, broke down a steel door and shifted furniture around. Net result is I ache all over and the exertion has given the cold I had some time to entrench. I now feel all different sorts of shit. I am, however, now mostly moved.
I also watched that Great Gatsby film. I loved the cinematography, but I am becoming increasingly perplexed as to who on Earth let Tobey Maguire be an actor.
( , Tue 28 May 2013, 9:29, Reply)

so I went into it without expectations. There was a lot of people complaining on the way out, though.
( , Tue 28 May 2013, 9:38, Reply)

Both the characters and accents grated on me.
( , Tue 28 May 2013, 9:46, Reply)

We had a list of books from which we had to read three during the summer holidays. Gatsby was the thinnest book of the lot. Apart from the bongle-licious Isla Fisher the film doesn't appeal too much.

When I asked Ma' what she wanted for her birthday, this was honstly her answer. It's not an exacty quote 'cus it was a few months ago, but its pretty close.
"There's an old gay couple in Finchley who live in this oldy-worldy house, and you go there and they play old DVDs like that chaplin bloke, or you can bring your own DVDs. They very entertaining, I mean, even more so that usual for them. I think its a couple, one of them might be dead, I can't remember. They've lead such an interesting life and you can either get a take-away or they can cook something, i could knock up a brisket and some ludkas."

My brother and I inherited a huge collection of painted lead soldiers mounted in blocks and used to have long-running games in our playroom.
Just to point out, this was a good 30 years ago or more.

( , Tue 28 May 2013, 9:50, Reply)

I'd say its a bit simplistic to say it's "for children", the rules are very complicated and the artwork is extremely intricate.

And they *are* toys.

I wouldn't let kids play with them, for the kid's safety, not for the toys.

I, personally, favour tube-amps over modern alternatives because they're so much more delicate and inconvenient to use. Although, to be fair, they do look awesome.
