How are you this morning?
( , Wed 30 Jul 2008, 8:45, Reply)

I've had a pig of a night and not in a good way. My glorious, all-consuming, all-encompassing client in Hong Kong are obviously getting clingy. So much so that they rang me at 2am, 2.10am, 2.35am, 3am, 3.30am and 4.15am.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
( , Wed 30 Jul 2008, 8:50, Reply)

That's unreasonable - couldn't you turn your phone off for a while? You must be knackered.
Edit: Oops, good morning, btw!

I think you need to have 'phone trouble' during the night Edmund, so that nobody wakes you up. "Oh dear, the battery's fallen out/the cat's unplugged the cable" or something like that.
( , Wed 30 Jul 2008, 8:53, Reply)

sleep was disturbed and I've been made to feel foolish by a tradesman.
I hate it when that happens. I'm considered an expert at stuff in my field (not necessarily wholly accurately), and I don't get to make people feel foolish....
( , Wed 30 Jul 2008, 8:56, Reply)

made to feel foolish? Impossible.
Did you attempt to do something and get 'told off'?
( , Wed 30 Jul 2008, 8:59, Reply)

Did you do something silly due to lack of sleep? Like plumb hot water into the toilet roll holder or something?
( , Wed 30 Jul 2008, 8:59, Reply)

the bathroom suite had been removed, we boarded the walls and ceiling for plastering and left the hole where the old toilet had an overflow pipe going through the wall.
however "modern toilets have an integral overflow"
I'm staying at my brother's house at the moment, and noticed that feature of his toilet this morning.
I dislike having to use tradesmen. I can't help but get the feeling that they are laughing at me internally.
( , Wed 30 Jul 2008, 9:03, Reply)

but I only learned it a couple of months back, because my boss told me about it after he had a new toilet fitted. He actually called the plumber and said that it appeared not to have an overflow, implying that the plumber had forgotten to fit it.
He got the same reply as you did.

to work contacts. My mobile, perhaps, if they're important (but it's my personal mobile so it's up to me). Otherwise they can phone me at work. I get very few phone calls anyway, which is fine.
Phoning Korea is a nuisance though, as they're 9 hours ahead of us. So usually I had to be in early when I was working with them, though fortunately Koreans seem to work until about 8pm every day anyway. I have had phone calls from them in the middle of the afternoon here, which threw me slightly.

The film was really good; I think I enjoyed the first one more, but this one was faster-paced. I think it was about twenty minutes too long, but I would still receommend it.
Ddin't come out of the cinema until 11.15pm, but there was a pub still open and serving, so that was fine.
edit: @Ethel - righty-ho! Good luck with that then...
I'm fine - haven't managed to get dressed and leave the house yet, but have been working so am not a complete degenerate.

@HLT - about £40.
Seriously though, it's the bit which connects the steering rod to the wheel, to allow you to turn corners. Because it's a balljoint and transfers quite a lot of force it wears out after a while (in this particular case about 15000 miles, cos my car's crap, but usually 100000 miles or so) and has to be replaced.

Here's a question: if you could only live off one kind of meat for the rest of your life (ham or sausages or beef or chicken or salmon or haddock etc), what would it be?

That would be beautiful!
Sorry for being angry everyone but I'm just so sick of him. He really is a horrible man and an insensitive prick. I'm livid with him, the way he's treated a colleague has left me actually repulsed by the man.
Edit: @kirst, a colleague emailed in to say all was not well with his wife and he wasn't sure when he'd be back in. So dickface emails back straight away asking when he's going to come back to the office.
Granted it's a fair question but when you know the situation is sensitive and someone you work with (and go drinking with) tells you his wife has just lost a baby, the last thing you should do is ask them straight away.
There are more important things than fucking work!
( , Wed 30 Jul 2008, 11:09, Reply)

That's quite a difficult question. I like lots of meats. I think lamb is the tastiest red meat, and I love all sorts of fish, but I probably eat more chicken than anything else.
So I think I'd have to say chicken, because I think it would take me longer to get sick of it than the others.
Edit @wanderlust - to borrow a choice phrase from Tourette's: cunt him in the fuck.

( , Wed 30 Jul 2008, 11:16, Reply)

steak (and other beef), sausages, bacon, fish, lamb and pork are delicious, I would probably have to go with chicken as well, mainly for its versatility, and as k2k6 rightly says, it'd take longer to get sick of it

I find that the London commuter belt (especially in Surrey) is a terrible place to live. Everyone seems to be out just for themselves, and it's all "Me Me Me!". There are some exceptions, but when I lived in that area, I found it hard to develop a sense of solidarity with those around me (outside of work). Outside of London's reach, people in general are much nicer.
The population of London itself is way too diverse to make generalisations about. In fact, I'm about to apply for some jobs in London so may just end up moving there myself.
( , Wed 30 Jul 2008, 16:02, Reply)

I also think one's own attitude to others plays a large part in one's interactions; tolerance levels, preconceptions etc.
Everyone, Spak? My brother lives in the commuter belt in Surrey, and is an easy-going, friendly bloke. Beware of generalisations! You can't just stick 'some exceptions' onto stereotypes.

It might not be the people, as such. Everyone's different and therefore not everyone is happy in the same surroundings. You might need a smaller town somewhere rather than the outskirts (or the centre) of one of the world's busiest cities. You should think about this carefully when applying for work!

I was out at lunchtime and it was sunny but with a cool breeze. I would guess about 18°C. Nice for walking around. Not exactly beach weather though.
Edit @Moniker- I'm not that handsome, but I'll gladly sponge you down with cool water, if that helps :)

It's raining here again. It has made my hair tres curly.

an offer like that, K2k6!
I was just hoping to avoid having to get up to get a drink, but being sponged is an attractive alternative!

@clendrix: I'll think about that. London certainly has many things to take my mind off such thoughts. Most of those things being friends who don't live too far away.
EDIT: Afternoon POD.

Better?
Any parts you might like sponged again?

I'll let you continue as you feel is necessary!

*sponges obviously hot parts again*
Unfortunately I cannot continue this rather pleasant job, as I'm off home now, and am busy tonight. However, if anyone requires my services tomorrow, I shall be around!

I feel we have a special connection now.
Stupid rain makes it go ridiculously curly.
How are we today, one and all?

I'm well thanks, but just running off to catch a train. See ya all later.

It's supposed to show you're a free thinker.
When my hair was longer, I used to have an afro.

Was productive in the morning and on b3ta in the afternoon. Because it's getting ridiculously hot here, I'm finding that the mornings are the best times to get work done.

Everyone's now thinking, 'Lord, is PoD the only living person who hasn't heard clendrix whine on about her hair?'
In wet weather, it's really very curly. In the rain, or on very humid days, I look like I went to salon and something went horrendously wrong. Think lovechild of Kevin Keegan (c1979) and Kelis.
Oh OK, it's not that bad. But it is hard to look classy in the rain (as I'm sure you'll agree).

Really working. Still bloody am. I am not impressed, as I now have half an hour to do an entire afternoon's work.
Bloody meetings.
At least I have highly efficient AC, so I am colder than youse lot.
*sigh*
Back to it then, see you lovely people tomorrow.

I find that rain affects the hairstyles of the curly more than it does anyone else.

So that should make it better. Or at least more manageable, as my fringe is crazy just now.
I feel I may win the coldness stakes, having just been out in the rain.
