Are Curiosity Killed The Cat jazz?
I liked Curiosity Killed The Cat.
(, Fri 28 Feb 2014, 13:44, Reply)
I don't think so
They're more pop with a soul/jazz influence.
Harters is the man to talk to about that watered down end of the market.

trad jazz is ok, just not my thing
modern jazz is right up there with "performance art", a parody of itself performed by wankers for other wankers to wank over.
(, Fri 28 Feb 2014, 13:44, Reply)
Wankers.

Just because you don't like or understand something, doesn't mean someone is trying to trick you.

his favourite band is Queen, this is why any music remotely complex is too sophisticated for him

(, Fri 28 Feb 2014, 13:51, Reply)
one of my favourites.
Most of my favourite music is classical
(, Fri 28 Feb 2014, 14:00, Reply)
Just the Classical period?
Or do you listen to composers such as Stravinsky, Shostakovich, Bernstein, Copland, etc.?
(, Fri 28 Feb 2014, 14:08, Reply)
All sorts
Even studied Weill, Stravinsky and Schoenberg at uni (minor music unit in non-music degree).
Like Stravinsky a lot, Schoenberg not at all, though could sort of see what he was trying to achieve.
Bernstein is a favourite, Wagner too, plus a load more.
(, Fri 28 Feb 2014, 14:13, Reply)
All of these composers incorporated jazz influences into some of their works.

(, Fri 28 Feb 2014, 14:16, Reply)
Indeed, especially Bernstein

(, Fri 28 Feb 2014, 14:17, Reply)
I'm not sure what we're arguing about any more.
Saw a decent jazz version of The Rite of Spring a couple of years ago:

Edit: That's Steve Howe from Yes's son.

The different types of jazz, I think.
The one I hate is the one that sounds like several groups individual practice sessions played back simultaneously.
(, Fri 28 Feb 2014, 14:22, Reply)
Yeah, it's not for everyone.
Ornette Coleman's album Free Jazz has two quartets playing separate improvisations - one coming out of the left speaker, the other coming out of the right.
I rather like it, but I suspect you'd hate it.
(, Fri 28 Feb 2014, 14:25, Reply)
You may be right, but I'd always at least give it a listen first.
Sometimes music takes tine to grow on you, have listened to some very recent compositions that at first were "wtf" but after a while really liked.
(, Fri 28 Feb 2014, 14:31, Reply)
you're verging on quasi-religion here

(, Fri 28 Feb 2014, 13:53, Reply)
How so?

(, Fri 28 Feb 2014, 13:56, Reply)
Because you look a bit like Jesus, and everything you do, say, think and believe is absolute horse shit.

(, Fri 28 Feb 2014, 13:57, Reply)
Harsh but fair

(, Fri 28 Feb 2014, 14:03, Reply)
Alright Johnny

how do you work that one out?
You're too thick to understand what's going on, ergo it's for those who think themselves superior?

Maybe you should stick to your Will Self Investigates Ghosts book, eh?
