It looks like it was just a browser add on and it for some reason installed opera... never mind.

BHO -browser helper object by the sound of it
Gives you extra toolbars, software and/or redirects/inserts ads into your browser.
Malwarebytes is the best thing for getting rid of them.

I got rid of a whole bunch.
Some pesky one called HDviewer seems to be sticking around.

MBAM will sort it.
I've never had it not sort out problems. Including one of those dodgy ransom ones that pretends to be the police and fines you for being a pervert that kept reinstalling itself on reboot.

Windows defender has caught 8 processes, Malwarebytes has currently got 19
Should be ok within the hour.

Windows Defender, or whatever Microsoft have rebranded it as now, is usually sufficient,
unless you actively go looking for trouble.

The best defence is not being a flid and saying yes to anything the computer asks you.

MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials), it's more of an anti-virus though
Doesn't get rid of BHO's, but Malwarebytes shifts anything MSE misses. Also worth adding Threatfire as it warns of things trying to install without your knowledge.

That doesn't sound very helpful.

Nope

I was the 'computer guy' in my old local.
One machine I was given had about 6 tool-bars in IE.
