Every day is like Sunday,

Nice and quiet on here today...
so you're either all still in bed or out enjoying the sunshine. Top marks for either.
(, Sun 21 Sep 2008, 10:21, Reply)
I suppose that means I don't get top points
I've just woken up and having a bit of a mooch about.

I really want to go out and have a few drinks tonight as it's my birthday tomorrow but this stupid chest infection is going to ruin that idea ='[
(, Sun 21 Sep 2008, 10:25, Reply)
Oh dear...
you're poorly, so you get to do whatever you feel like doing.
If you rest up today you might be OK tomorrow, but chest infections are nasty.
Poor V.
(, Sun 21 Sep 2008, 10:29, Reply)
Well I've taken the day off tomorrow
So a day in bed should be nice. Going out for dinner in the evening with my family and the family of a girl who was born on the same day as me (our mums met giving birth) as a kind of joint birthday meal.

I believe we've got an entire pub to ourselves!

That sounds great.
Hope you feel better quickly!

why are you going to Cardiff?
(, Sun 21 Sep 2008, 10:43, Reply)
Unfortunately I'm not going now
I was going to go and visit some friends I have there but the trip has fallen through. Might go out later in the year instead.

Good afternoon, all!
I hope everyone is well and had a good saturday evening! I've just come back from the gym and finished working on my car. I really hate mothers who bang on about their children as if everyone in the world should be as interested as they are, but I feel the same way about my cars! :O)
(, Sun 21 Sep 2008, 12:45, Reply)
Hello Stig!
OK, I could be getting into places I have no business being in here (for despite my immense enjoyment of Top Gear, I am rather dim when it comes to cars) but what motor have you been working on today?
(, Sun 21 Sep 2008, 13:13, Reply)
Well....
I have 2 cars. A Jaguar X-Type and a Toyota Yaris. Today, I've been working on the Toyota. I bought her brand new and treated her like a princess (insert obligatory Princess Diana joke here). I've given her a wash, glossed the tyres, cleaned the engine (internally and externally), inflated tyres to correct pressure and cleaned the air conditioning. She needs re-gassing, but that'll be done next month.

The Jaguar is in good condition, but I think her tyres need inflating.

You've a couple of lucky ladies there, Stig. I've always been a bit of an 'oh well, another dent' kinda girl*, so I promise not to venture within 50 yards of them.

*Then again, I've never owned something classy!
(, Sun 21 Sep 2008, 13:27, Reply)
Well....
The Jaguar X-type is a brilliant drive! All wheel drive and a terrific ride quality (typical of Jaguars). Great at long distance travelling, but no good in towns. That's where the Toyota comes into play. I have thrown everything at that little engine and I swear I can hear her shouting "Is that all you got, punk?!" :O)

They're the only ladies I have in my life right now (sighs). I would like a lady with whom I could take to dinner, cook for and snuggle up with! You try doing that with a Jaguar X-type!

I did try sleeping with my cars once....one left me "run down" the other left me "exhausted"!

erm...I'll just put the directions to Hull in my sat nav......
(, Sun 21 Sep 2008, 13:44, Reply)
I love driving.
I'm currently car-less because I live in London and I can't afford both a travel card and a car :(
I'd love to have a go at rally driving one day. Learning to drive at top speed on tiny Cornish roads must have given me a taste for it.

A man with a Jag and a wish to cook for and snuggle with a lady will not stay single for long.

Edit: Hello WeeWitch! *hugs* Love the link.
(, Sun 21 Sep 2008, 13:51, Reply)
Well...
I think cooking for someone is much more personal than taking someone out. No imagination. That's what I think, anayway...

Well, I've been single for 6 years (admittedly, I've only had the Jaguar for a year) and no-one wants to know!

Clendrix, m'dear, looks rule them all! Unless you look like Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie, you're screwed!

Good afternoon
At last, I have a keyboard with a full set of working keys.

Have just cycled from Southampton through the New Forest and am now in a cybercafe the outskirts of Bournemouth. Seemed to go quicker than I had expected, but I was carrying my rucksack on my back which made it harder.

Had a dream last night involving loads of b3tans, although most of them were made-up b3tans. There were bashes going on every day near where I lived.

As for yesterday's bash, it was good. Not many b3tans turned up, but some of ancrenne's friends joined us.

OK a slight pea-raost...
I have a theory that the music you listen to when you're 17 - 21 is the music you'll always have an affinity for, for the rest of your life.

Mine is the indie/britpop era (late 90's). Suede and Pulp are still GODS to me.

What's your "17 - 21" music of your life?

Social ineptitude brought me here!

I'm a New Wave/ Punk girl. But I didn't really listen to that when I was 17 - 21.
I don't know what I listen to then.

was all about heavy metal to me, but I have since mellowed and found Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin

the new Metallica album however has brought those heady days screaming back.

One of my mates showed me b3ta. can't remember what and I was hooked.

makes me smile now when we get emails round full of comedy images that I have already seen a month previously because they were all made by b3tans

P.S.
If my questions bring back any thoughts of nostalgia, which, in turn brings back thoughts of "What happened to my life?", which, in turn, makes you question "What the hell am I doing wasting my life on B3ta?!" then I'm really, really, really sorry!

I can't remember how I found this place
But I'm glad I did. I lurked a long time before I ever signed up, wanted to answer a QOTW, and then had to wait a week and missed it. Meh.

Not really seen either of my flatmates much yet, but met up with my brother today and one of his friends for some coffee. And I got the important things like my drumkit working, which is good.

You're showing your age there, clendrix!

But you're right. It's not exactly rocket science to boil a couple of tatties for 20 minutes and mash them up. The 15 minutes you save by boiling the kettle and mixing up the vile concoction that purports to be potato-based is not worth it!

Smash is minging. At least it was in the 1970s, when I last had it.

I was in a goth-club from ten last night 'til 4 this morning, then night-bussed across london and was home by half eight.

Also, I was nearly sexually molested by a 40-year old goth woman (the bad, Cher-looking kind). She also told me that I have a "dark aura, and dead souls follow me around".

What brought me to b3ta...
This is not only a very good question but also the second most common one I get asked at bashes (no. 1 is "who are you"!).

It was about 5 1/2 years ago when that consulting company renamed themselves to MONDAY (apparantly the capitalisation was important) one of the lovely folks here did a parody advert (Wednesday possibly, can't quite remember).

The then informative but now unfortunately crap folks over at theregister.co.uk linked here and the rest is history.

Although my post count is so low that I have officially been to more bashes then I have number of posts I tend to lurk here quite often. Now if only I could get the timing right and get here on time more often when I actually have a qotw answer instead of turning up a week late every. Fucking. Time!

Anyway, apologies for lack of funny & inevitable typing errors inflicted by posting from the iPhone.

So iPhone posting FTW. Also by the way my phone wanted to say something:

Bill's iPhone - "Hi Ancrenne, thanks for saying hi" *hugs*

I'm considering sabotaging my own food tonight just so I have something to post to the question, what are the group thoughts on pasta, pesto & skunk? I'm trying to decide if it'll taste awful or if I'm a genius.

that was Nissan's best version of it. The styling was just right, fuel economy was good, handling was ok and it was well built. Better still, it was before Nissan starting working with Renault, so all the parts are Japanese and not French.

Yes, I'm a car bore! (sighs)

I'm doing a mini happy dance (mini due to public setting) after worrying that I did something wrong on Friday night I just found out that I wasn't being blanked 'cause I'm in trouble, just standard mutual hangover hiding from the world.

Eating before going swimming is no more dangerous, than swimming on an empty stomach. It's a myth. It was on QI.

Think about it. In a normal sized meal, it probably weighs no more than 2lbs (under 1kg). That kind of addition to a normal adult is neglible.

Grown ups do talk some rubbish!

Apparently, QI reckon (and backed it with research) that it's a myth. I believe this, because I've never heard of it being a problem for anyone.

As for the "making yourself sick" while exercising is a new one on me. I eat my dinner and start gym work 30 minutes later, with no problems whatsoever. In fact, my best workouts are when I've eaten.

Mmm, QI
I watched the QI omnibus last night on Dave. It was awesome.

Collapsed in a heap on my bed, watching funny tv. What a life I lead.

Right...
Swimming stuff...

The human body only has a certain amount of blood. You don't need lot of it in lots of places, at the same time.

When you're being active, there's an increased bloodflow to the lungs and big muscles that you're using.

This means that the "extra blood" has to come from elsewhere. This means that there's reduced bloodflow to the digestive tract, amongst other places.

Ok...

So, if you eat a big meal your body needs to do several things with the food.
The tube-pipes like the throat and intestines move food with muscles, and the stomach is a big bag of muscle that mashes food up.
These muscles need an increased bloodflow to digest food well.

So, the point I'm making is that you can't do hard physical exercise at the same time as digesting food.

You can go swimming, sure. The worst that'd happen is you get cramps. Maybe not awful craps, but cramps all the same.

Just don't go for a sprint after Christmas dinner.
You'll feel terrible, and likely throw up.

EDIT: I hate you all for making me think hard after a roast dinner.

Having nothing left in the house but tainted pasta I ended up eating a kebab on top of the pasta so am now off to bed all bloaty feeling :-(

I'll write this up all pretty like and post it proper tomorrow but thought I should report back here asap in case anyone else decided to follow my stupid example.
