What the hell
Was the school doing going through the kid's phone anyway? Sure confiscate the thing (I don't like the use of the word seized, makes it sounds like a drugs bust) after all they were breaking the school rules but going through the phone is completely unjustified.

Personally I think the kid's should just be left alone (this is something for parents to deal with) and the person or persons that went through the phone should be facing the music.

I'm in the minority of British people..
..that think America is better. Americans aren't such retards as our sense of humour likes to maintain. I had the best time in Florida a couple of Januarys ago (meeting someone from the internet - possibly a good qotw story if I'm not paranoid she's watching..), and there are better states than fecking Florida. But oh to be back in Hollywood beach, Broward county, Florida, right now.. I made random friends there very quickly whom I'm sure would recognise me now, in a way that doesn't happen here.

now though, after 6 months working here, I'm convinced that the uk is better - for me. I get virtually no holidays here, am expected to work ridiculous hours, but don't actually have to achieve anything, and all the religious crap pisses me off monumentally. but I am working in the deep south.

They're doing the same sort of thing over here. Heard it on the news a day or so ago..... Generaly speaking, any particuarly retarded law bought in in another country we tend to adopt it too. Don't get me wrong, it's not the best thing that kids could be getting up to, but surely it's kinda the parent's responsibility to keep an eye on them? And maybe not get them a phone that takes photos and such if it's that much of a problem? They certainly don't deserve to have their futures ruined over it.(I had a look for a link to the story but I couldn't find it, but yeah....)

in my undergrad days, our lecturer swiped the phone from one girl who was fiddling with it under the desk (oo-er), and he looked at it, raised his eyebrows, then handed it back, wothout saying a word. she went puce, and looked like she was going to die of humiliation.

It turned out later that she'd been snapping pics up her knickers during class to send to her boyfriend.
