I was just pondering this earlier. It helps my depressed friend to talk about what song we'd have playing at our respective funerals. I have no idea why but I do it for him :)
Still. My song, I think would be Days by the Kinks.
Which song would you have played at your funeral?

By the Beach Boys.
I've thought long and hard about this one.

by Motorhead.
I'm not joking about this either, i've explained to my fiancee how I want to go out.

does it involve a wheelbarrow?
My funeral involves a wheelbarrow and every woman I've ever touched.

"Another One Bites The Dust" by Queen.
Either that or "I'll Be Glad When You're Dead, You Rascal You".

Listen to the song AIDS by Akira the Don (especially the version with Mary Turner).
Eeeees good. You like? I like.

to the strains of Firestarter by The Prodigy.

I'm not sure how you drew a connecting like to the Kinks there.
I have to admit to being an accent snob. I just can't listen to singers with that accent. Akira, Kate Nash, Lily Allen. All those. Mostly I'm not missing out on anything, but one day I'll miss out on something great because of my accent hang up!

is basically the song Days.
"Thank you for the Daaaaaaays" becomes "Thank you for the AAAAAAAIDS" etc.
It's actually a really good song with a valid political message.

I think Your Funny Uncle by Pet Shop Boys is a strong contender. It's a song written about a funeral attended by Neil Tennant of a close friend. It's a truly beautiful song.
If I wanted an uplifting song I'd probably choose, If My Heart Were A Ball It Would Roll Uphill by Marillion. Very inspirational.
But I'd probably want to make use of the last chance I'd have to inflict my musical taste on family and friends. The Moor by Opeth it is. It's got all the classic elements required for torture: folk, prog and metal.

Possibly because I was too busy wincing at the accent :p

BBC Radio got a severe rollocking for that song.
They played it in memory of Freddie himself when he died.
In regards to the question:
It's My Life by Dr. Alban.

woah! Marillion! With Hogarth! I'll come out of the closet with you there and admit to being a huge fan.
And then you say Opeth! I saw them live in Dublin in November. I'm a big fan. A good funeral song might be their version of Deep Purple's 'Soldier Of Fortune'.

at the Defenders Of The Faith tour last year in Brixton Academy. They were on last and the schedule overran so they only got 50 minutes (which works out at 3 songs for them, grrrrrr)

1 - Smiths - "What difference does it make?" -For Marr's life altering opening bars, then Morrissey's opening line - "All men have secrets and here is mine, so let it be known."
2 - Green on Red - "Mr Morning Blue". Know the song, know the message.
3 - Focus - "Hocus Pocus". Fuck it. Why can't you go through the curtains to the sound of five stoned Dutch men yodelling?
