I think I should have been born in the 80's
because then I would remember all these songs when they came out - instead of hearing them and realising I love them 10 - 15 years after they came out.

I found another band today. Fatboy Slim. And apparently he's been behind loads of other bands too. *happies* I love discovering new stuff :D

if you laugh at me - I will get you back one day

I think I've got
one of his CDs around here somewhere.
(, Tue 17 Mar 2009, 7:56, Reply)
He's not a band
and it was the 90s, not the 80s.

Silly upside-down lesbian lady.

His name is Norman
how do you feel now?
(, Tue 17 Mar 2009, 8:19, Reply)
NORMAN COOK
no less. Did a stint in alcohol recovery recently, bless his drug-addled socks. Married and divorced Zoe Ball... one of my teenage cock-stiffeners.

I love his stuff though. If you like that, check out Chemical Brothers and The Wiseguys.
(, Tue 17 Mar 2009, 8:23, Reply)
Unless of course
You include his body of work with The Housemartins. Which was different.
(, Tue 17 Mar 2009, 8:29, Reply)
Stop making me feel old!
Damn you, youth of today *mutters to self*
(, Tue 17 Mar 2009, 8:30, Reply)
Caravan of Love
is one of my all time favourite songs to sing when I'm drunk in the vicinity of my parents occasionally on a Sunday.
(, Tue 17 Mar 2009, 8:30, Reply)
*points and laughs*

(, Tue 17 Mar 2009, 8:31, Reply)
well I meant
born in the 80's so I would remember the 90's.
All I remember of the 90's was that song with the little alien that sang "I'm blue dabba di dabba di" or whatever it was.

:D
EDIT: my favourite song was one I found on my iPod - "Praise You". Love it :D
(, Tue 17 Mar 2009, 8:31, Reply)
and that chipmonk guy...
is just so effing cool, ain't nobody flopping him.
(, Tue 17 Mar 2009, 8:34, Reply)
Oh!
and I remember watching Hey Arnold and thinking it was the best show ever. "hey football head!"

I still think it's pretty cool
(, Tue 17 Mar 2009, 8:35, Reply)
Praise you isn't among his better pieces imo
check out the video to Weapon of Choice.
(, Tue 17 Mar 2009, 8:44, Reply)
That's because Hey Arnold is the best show ever
fact
(, Tue 17 Mar 2009, 8:46, Reply)
Becky
I fucking love your taste.

Lets get a badge! "Hey Arnold - best show ever - fact"

I like it :D
(, Tue 17 Mar 2009, 9:02, Reply)
I've DJed with him
He's a lovely, enthusiastic man who gave my DJ partner a copy of his remix of Eric B & Rakim's I Know You Got Soul because he said he was after it.

His wife's a twat.

The End.
(, Tue 17 Mar 2009, 9:07, Reply)
Here's an 80's video for you
Scotch - Disco Band

Something strange about people referring to Fatboy Slims songs as "a piece".......

Anyway, if you like the Fatboy then I'd imagine you'll like that record-breaking sellout Moby, particularly the album Play. I think every song was purchased for use in adverts so you'll probably recognise them all!

While you're there get "Dig Your Own Hole" by the Chemical Brothers (good shout whoever said them) and "Surrender" was always a favourite of mine..

Also check out Depeche Mode and New Order...
(, Tue 17 Mar 2009, 9:13, Reply)
@ Vipros
His name is actually Quentin, not Norman!

Has made good stuff under all his aliases, although he's gone a bit shit in recent years. Check out 'Everybody Needs a 303'
(, Tue 17 Mar 2009, 9:17, Reply)
Fair enough
looks like you are right

however:

Fair enough, change your name from Quentin, but why the buggery fuck would you choose Norman?
(, Tue 17 Mar 2009, 9:32, Reply)
Fuck off
I'm a Norman. Didn't choose it though. I always wanted to be a George.
(, Tue 17 Mar 2009, 10:32, Reply)
And from there
You might feel like trying:

Prodigy
Faithless
Kosheen
Orbital
Massive Attack
Crystal Method.
(, Tue 17 Mar 2009, 9:54, Reply)
also try
any of the Global Underground CDs - Sasha, Tony De Vit, Deep Dish, Nick Warren etc - some pretty decent stuff there as well.
(, Tue 17 Mar 2009, 10:05, Reply)
TDW
New Mode album out this year apparently...

*bounces*
(, Tue 17 Mar 2009, 10:57, Reply)
*You* feel old Shippy?
I remember Zoe's Dad! Not so much of a cock stiffener, but entertained me through many a schoolday evening, when the air was fresher, the nights warmer and it NEVER RAINED. Ever.
(, Tue 17 Mar 2009, 11:10, Reply)
Yes I do (sometimes)
It's all this hanging about students trying to teach them stuff.

(And shagging a 22 yo - that makes me feel VERY old sometimes. Old, but happy.)

When I were a lad, it snowed at Christmas, was sunny all summer and five pence pieces were still massive. I also remember Johnny Ball but I can't remember from which show, possibly "How To" now I think about it.

Music suggestions in the main thread: I must say I approve of all the suggestions so far. :)
(, Tue 17 Mar 2009, 12:32, Reply)
And then if you get any Orbital or Massive attack
you're bound to fancy a crack at The Orb, The Future Sound of London and Unkle :-)
(, Tue 17 Mar 2009, 11:20, Reply)
If you liked that, then you should try this:
Massive Attack
Underworld
Chemical Brothers
The Orb
Orbital
Leftfield
Unkle
Aphex Twin
Groove Armada
Tricky
Trans Am

Newer stuff:
Ron Jenkees (Internet Legend)
Locust Toybox (Adam Firth)

Slightly off topic:
The Avalances
Apollo 440
Bentley Rhythm Ace
Daft Punk
Moloko
Some of the Prodigy's stuff

Hell - come round to mine and we can rub iPods together.
(, Tue 17 Mar 2009, 12:44, Reply)
BRA is full of win! :-)
Just laughing at how we've gone all the way from Fatboy Slim to Aphex Twin in just a few posts. That could really scare the boy.

I'll see your Aphex and raise you a Plaid.
(, Tue 17 Mar 2009, 13:15, Reply)
I see your Plaid
and raise you a full back-catalogue of Squarepusher with Boards of Canada for afters.
(, Tue 17 Mar 2009, 13:25, Reply)
What about good old
Felix Da Housecat?

hee hee
(, Tue 17 Mar 2009, 13:41, Reply)
Hooray!
Just got Squarepusher's new album. V smooth. And da housecat. Nice.

Been going through Amazon's "People who bought X also enjoyed Y" a lot and found Cujo. If you like Bentley, you'll be wanting some o that.

I'll see your Boards, No3L and raise you Flashbulb's back catalogue :-D
(, Tue 17 Mar 2009, 14:06, Reply)
Damn!
I didn't mention SquarePusher and KnifeHandChop for fear of scaring the poor lass.
(, Tue 17 Mar 2009, 14:07, Reply)
So now we've all come out as hardcore electronica fiends
Who's coming to the Bangface weekender?
(, Tue 17 Mar 2009, 14:27, Reply)
Pfft!
I was chilling to Orbital's Little fluffy clouds while you were all being potty trained.

Is old.
(, Tue 17 Mar 2009, 14:56, Reply)
erm.....
it was 'The Orb', nor Orbital :0)

Ok then
@ BGB - it's old, doesn't mean it's not good.

@ MrOil - I would, but think travelling from Switzerland might be a bit time-consuming

@ everyone - I need more electronica/breaks/etc. to listen to, please keep the suggestions pouring in!
(, Tue 17 Mar 2009, 15:10, Reply)
@Spikeypickle.
See.....that's what drugs do to your brain.

Don't do it kids.
(, Tue 17 Mar 2009, 15:19, Reply)
Shippy
Try out the later editions of 'Global Underground' (GU025+)

Definately check out James Lavelle (Romania - GU026)
(, Tue 17 Mar 2009, 15:21, Reply)
ignoring all of your stuff for the moment
where it is at is clearly some early 90s stuff like Snap and the KLF
(, Tue 17 Mar 2009, 15:41, Reply)
I'd be tempted
to throw a little bit of 'New Order' in with that
(, Tue 17 Mar 2009, 15:50, Reply)
