Would crushing ginger in a garlic crusher
be effective?

It's not great,
As ginger is pretty fibrous. Might just clog the crusher.
You're better off just cutting it up.
Or you can buy pre-chopped ginger in a jar, I think.

Grate it with a fine grater (same as what you'd use for nutmeg)
If you keep it in the freezer, it will keep for longer and be a bit easier to grate.

I think ginger is too fibrous for a garlic crusher.
This is why you have to grate ginger.

I may be wrong.

Chop up some fresh chilis and loads of garlic really fine
And fry that down really slowly with the ginger, some olive oil and the juice of a couple of limes, to start you off.

Will be a good dinner!

Speaking of food
I made mince and veg last night (yum yum) and along with the usual veggies I added a parsnip. I was previously under the impression that parsnip was a one trick pony, but it dispersed a subtle hum of sweetness throughout.

Anybody got any parsnip recipes I can venture toward? Grilling with honey seems a contender.

I prefer them roasted to grilled
You can also try the winter mash - parsnips, carrots, swede, sweet potato, normal potato, whatever you have to hand, boiled and mashed with plenty of black pepper. Good winter warmer.

Oh, and parsnip works well in soup as well.

I have never visited a Toby,
although I have heard good things.

KFC is the a lovely gravy on occasions, although the consistency is vey hit and miss.

Nothing beats thick peppery homemade gravy with slices of bread for mopping up/soaking.

What do you like with your gravy?

As kids
We would often mortify our mother by asking for bread after the main course for gravy mopping duties.

I say kids, dad usually started it.

edit: at restaurants that is, at home she'd just sigh and roll her eyes.

Roast parsnips
are great brushed with a mixture of runny honey and grain mustard.

This also works with carrots, oddly enough.

But don't overdo it, as I've done. Less is more - not something I generally agree with...

Spicy Parsnip soup
Haven't got a recipe but it comes out like sweet parsnip korma. Lush.
