kitty times!
My cat has this weird habit at night of carrying a (clean) ball of my husband's socks, or a favourite fluffy toy, in her mouth, walking the corridors and crying quite loud...such that the pathetic meowling even wake us. She's never vocal except for these nightly serenades... but it has such a pitiful quality to it.
Does anybody else's kitty do this? Or can you offer an explanation for this feline behaviour?

I sometimes thinks it's like she's carrying a dead kitten around and crying over it, but I guess that's really just anthropomorphising

She thinks it's a kitten
I don't know what you'd do about that.
If you catch Beckyjsbx on, she'll know.

You need to impregnate her

Awwww.....
I honestly don't really know, but the kitten hypothesis sounds plausible.

Being as I can't help you, let me share with you my slight fear over one of my cats: she hasn't been seen for almost two days. She has gone walkabout before now (she was adopted as a stray) but because there have been major gas works outside my flat and I saw them filling up the trench with cement yesterday, I'm worried that she might now be buried.....*sob*

The last time you saw her
was she hurtling toward a window at great speed. Greater speed in fact than the two time before when she merely bounced back, this time was she travelling at a speed great enough to actually penetrate the glass and leave the cat outside?

..........................no.
She was sleeping.

Either you really don't like cats, or something's got your goat this morning.

Or alternatively
you have missed a bit of a long running joke about Batshitmentalist and her propensity for feline abuse.

That would only work if currency was involved also.

The presence of a least a penny or two within the gullet of the flying cat was implicit

It's probably emotionally stunted.
It's a common problem with cats and cat owners. The best thing to do is get a dog. Gonz will back me up on this.

Some animals go through
phantom pregnancies. My friend's spaniel used get broody about once a year and nick a soft toy to carry around and look after, etc. She used to pick those McDonald's toys that make a noise when you squeeze them, especially the one that was released with Disney's 101 Dalmations, it barked.

She also once loved my sister's hamster to death, that was less cute.
