"That dress you emailed to your dad? It's a show. It's vile. It looks like a nightie. It's neither 20s nor 60s. And those hats? They're for winter. You haven't got a clue. I've told your dad to stop saying he likes it. I've told him it's vile."
My dad was going to pay so it looks like I'll be buying it myself and now I feel all negative and pebble-in-throaty.
That dress was nice wan't it?

and the hats were brilliant.
Edit: it was quite flappery (not 60's at all) and it would look fantastic. You should buy it anyway, or maybe ask your dad to just give you the money to get it

It's cos she wants me to wear a big brimmed hat, a dress that costs sevenmillionpounds from Coast and dress up as Audrey Hepburn and she won't even BE at either of the weddings.
She's a nasty cow and she's ruined it.

but why not email her a Coast dress and tell her that's what you're getting if she won't be there? Then maybe say to your dad you've changed your mind back to the Frieda dress

I'm just gonna pay myself. I was going to do that anyway and whenever I take anything from her I pay for it. And she is the purse strings, so although it's me dad's dosh she has the final say.

go for the nice dress anyway and have a fantastic time instead. Some people just need to be in control all the time

I'm 32 and she's still reet mean and campaigny against me sometimes.
Like the clippers incident.
She only likes me when I'm down.
Weirdo.

Important internet people think otherwise.
Important YOUNG internet people who have some idea.

It's not worth the aggro. I'll just do as I please without her negativity.
There's something else behind the aggression and I'm sure I'll get to the bottom of it in some future row.

And you actually will wear those again rather than the obvious Audrey brim job which will end up in a dusty box on top of your wardrobe.
And talking of Dusty ...

but it was close because they're so different.

BGB has a good eye; my first thoughts were for a floaty, but not too wide, brim hat. The flapper thing would work as well.
Very clever dress because it could be 60s easily.
Which way do you want to go?

But then, Etta ain't finished yet.
If only she'd had a better manager.
Flappery rocks and rools.
Somerville or Gift?

The lace dress is quite floaty and you need a lighter looking hat.

it wouldn't need much building depending how much usage you wanted out of it

I've been meaning to try out fascinator construction, so I'll give it a go and see what happens.
Ignore your mum, you'll look like this and it'll be awesome:

She's insufferable right now

but I like the dress and the hat. However I do think the dress is more glamorous than the hat. The hat is great but my mental images of that time are of them being worn with more "practical" wear or (at the risk of agreeing with your Mum)with overcoats. Of course, there's no way that such a dress should ever be covered up by an overcoat.
Do you like this type of hat at all?
