Aside from my flat it was by far then most expensive thing I've ever bought, but what was the most expensive thing you ever bought or what was the biggest waste of money?

My friend keeps posting facebook statuses in Latin the pretentious git.

My Latin GCSE is rather rusty... pecunia is money? senes is old, or old age I think. The rest I'm lost on.

I'm shocked at the state of education nowadays if that's what you learn. In my day it was wholesome stuff, like reading the Aeneid, or reading a fictional account of a dog howling with sadness because his master died during the eruption of Mt Vesuvius.

Catullus and Martial. Brilliant stuff.
Of course we have Virgil and Cicero too, but the other stuff is more fun :D

double glazing
car
engagement ring
fender strat
surfboard
none of these are a waste of money

is obviously the most I have ever spent, even though technically I never had the money, and am just paying £250 a month for the next 25 years to pay for it!
Biggest waste was my Fiat Cunto, got it for £1500 and reckon I must have spent £3000 to keep the damn thing running for 4 years before giving up and scrapping it!
(, Wed 19 May 2010, 10:00, Reply)
Biggest waste of money was paying for someone's flights to England and trips around the UK.

If you regard it as a single entity my record collection is definitely 2nd. I really don't want to think about what I've spent on records over the years.

I swear its starting to spawn and random books I have never purchased appear on my shelves every now and then

1 1/2 months rent, plus a few extra things - £1250 in cash. Was horrific

After this afternoon, it shall be my car. WHICH I GET THIS AFTERNOON!

Which I bought because I loved playing drums on Rock Band. I tried to learn for a while, but was depressingly shit. Sold them to a mate for about 75% of what I paid.
(, Wed 19 May 2010, 10:11, Reply)
Learned on it, then bought my actual kit and sold the electric one at quite a big loss. But I have far more space now.
edit: Note how I seem to be looking for a positive in this.

Alesis DM5Pro. I used it less and less, as it sat there mocking me and my ineptitude. I bought a book and DVD to learn from, a mate gave me a few lessons, but whilst I could do the rudiments no problem, I struggled with 3 limb independence, and flailed about at 4.
I think my main problem was trying to play along to songs I love (NIN, QOTSA etc) where the drums were just too difficult for me.

Possibly around £100 a weekend since I was 18. That's probably not all on booze - taxis, pub-grub, gambling, ripping up cash.
A quick sum = £36k but I'm probably over-estimating that.
P.s. I'm having one of those days at work where you've barely set foot in the door and you're covered in shit. Eating shit from all angles - customers, bosses, colleagues, anything. I'm lolling around on the floor caked in shit and more and more shit is getting crammed into every crevice.

Biggest waste of money? I'm not sure, I'm a massive Jew, so I think I'm wasting money the whole time.
(, Wed 19 May 2010, 10:12, Reply)
but the most recent expensive thing I 'bought' was my degree, which isn't really a huge waste of money.
I did buy a car once and it literally exploded the next day and the dealers were such cunts that they fucked me around long enough to stop me getting my deposit of £1k back.
(, Wed 19 May 2010, 10:22, Reply)
Someone that counts their degree as not being an utter waste of time. This makes me hopeful.
(, Wed 19 May 2010, 10:33, Reply)
or was this years ago?
(, Wed 19 May 2010, 10:45, Reply)
and my car, the most expensive thing I've bought was my keyboard.
Biggest waste of money was my last car, the infamous Laguna, which cost me thousands in repairs. All the bloody time.
