1990! That's ridiculous, what are you doing on the internet all alone, you need supervising

(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 15:00, 1 reply, 16 years ago)
I began my internet career age 14.

(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 15:01, Reply)
The internet wasn't invented when i was 14
well it was invented, but not the norm
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 15:04, Reply)
I remember hearing about The Internet
on Blue Peter and how it was a wild idea that was way in the future. They even said "they hope that one day you will be able to chat face to face with someone in Australia instantly, like people used to talk about hoverboards and hotels on the moon.

They probably had no idea that ChatRoulette would happen.
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 15:18, Reply)
Fucking hell
The internal combustion engine had barely been invented when I was fourteen.
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 16:11, Reply)
So there's a possibility that years ago I tried to groom you in a chatroom?

(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 15:04, Reply)
When she was 14 you were 19
So it's not THAT creepy

If I'd done so, on the other hand...
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 15:05, Reply)
It's still damn creepy
And still damn illegal ;)
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 15:07, Reply)
When I was 14 I had a 19 year old pursuing me. It was creepy, horrible and I didn't stand for it.

(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 15:07, Reply)
Good for you!

(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 15:09, Reply)
He acted like a 15 year old but he had lots of money, gave me inordinately expensive gifts
despite knowing me about a week.
GROOMED.
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 15:11, Reply)
Classic
See it all too often.
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 15:14, Reply)
Hadn't thought about it in a while
only really realised how terrifying it is.
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 15:18, Reply)
A 19 year old and a 14 year old isn't _that_ creepy?
lolwut?
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 15:16, Reply)
I remember at school, there were quite a few girls in my year, who at the age of 13-16 would talk about their 20 year old (plus) boyfriends.
I always thought that was fucking strange at the time, but they told people with pride.

Now I'm quite a bit older, I find it even more "=\".

I can't imagine going out with a 16 year old, for example, let alone anyone younger than that, they're even still in school !
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 15:29, Reply)
My first boyfriend was when I was 17 and he was 27
At the time it took me ages to persuade him that I was mature enough, etc, but now that I'm nearly that age, if one of my friends starting seeing a 17 year old I'd be all "what the fuck are you doing sicko?" so I appreciate the flack he took for it at the time.
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 15:49, Reply)
Unless you frequented the fansite where I was a mod, no.

(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 15:06, Reply)
See, my whole dirty-old-man routine doesn't work now that people know
I'm not the same age as Al...
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 15:08, Reply)
Truetalks.
But no, I wasn't allowed to use chatrooms.
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 15:10, Reply)
I totally assumed you were well old
I didn't know you were my age. It's because we're both so mature.
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 15:18, Reply)
Al thought he was his age.
Al lhfao'd when I told him the truth.
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 15:20, Reply)
I was quite surprised
by how young you were as well.
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 15:25, Reply)
It seems everyone is
I seem to remember PJM saying he expected me to older as well. I'm clearly not ageing at all gracefully.
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 15:59, Reply)
Either you're a very learned and eloquent man for your tender years
Or you've got a painting in your loft that's aging horribly.
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 16:12, Reply)
Definitely the former
(I can't paint for shit.)
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 16:17, Reply)
you just need
to find a friend who can paint. Then brutally murder him
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 16:36, Reply)
Fansite where you were a mod... in 2004...
*pulls concentration/squeezing out hard poo face*

Fuck, I can't remember what the kids are watching now. Twilight, is it? No chance will I remember 2004. Harry Potter, that's a perennial favourite
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 15:12, Reply)

Well, I met people I'm still in touch with
I had some fallings out ONLINE, that sort of thing. It was a little like b3ta, I guess.
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 15:17, Reply)
I assume you didn't do anything as daft as snogging Chompy

(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 15:20, Reply)
bet you've done worse

(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 15:21, Reply)
As a result of internet dalliance or just generally?

(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 15:24, Reply)
in general
I did some very inadvisable things when I was 19.
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 15:50, Reply)
Actually I was stunningly well-behaved throughout my teenage years
Didn't smoke til I was 18, didn't start drinking apart from the odd one at home til I was 17, didn't touch drugs (apart from the aforementioned smoking) til I was 21

All of which helps to explain why I'm so stunningly immature now
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 15:58, Reply)
I was a good girl until I was 18
possibly due to being an ugly teenager. Also, I didn't meet fellow goths until that age so I was all misunderstood 'n shit.

Then I did some stupid sleeping with male friends which I horribly regret. Then I stopped and became sensible. Wait, no that's not true, then I met Wiggy and stopped sleeping with other people.
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 16:02, Reply)
No-one would touch me with a fucking bargepole until I was 19
I did plan to make up for lost time when I broke up with her at 22, so I slept with the most beautiful girl I've ever met, she was really good at it and that about brings us up to now
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 16:09, Reply)
that's pretty much the story of my life

(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 16:42, Reply)
GET OUT OF MY BRAAAAAAIIIIINNNN

(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 16:44, Reply)
I was nine or ten I think
then I was banned from the internet for a year between thirteen and fourteen by my parents
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 15:25, Reply)
I've always been a great fan of fora
I've been posting consistently on one from about the age of 14.
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 15:30, Reply)
I loved Lord of the Rings
so I pretty much hung out on geeky places where people spoke elvish.

Then my parents noticed my sleep quotient had sunk to two hours a night, and started hiding the modem at night
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 15:32, Reply)
Oooh forgot there was a place before .mu
I can't remember all the places I frequented, but music featured highly.
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 15:36, Reply)
I had a nostalgia trip
and went back to some of the ones I used to frequent.
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 15:41, Reply)
One's vanished, due to the webmaster going to uni and not having enough money a looooong time ago
occasionally look round .mu, but it's quite boring.
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 15:43, Reply)
Jesus fucking Christ NO.

(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 15:57, Reply)
"fora"
I'm amused by the idea that internet is populated by a wide diversity of fauna and fora.
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 15:48, Reply)
I just assumed
that it was some Classics students misspluralisation of forum
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 15:56, Reply)
That's what I meant
It's flooded with fora/forums which are populated with a wide variety of strange fauna (take a look around and see the peculiar creatures filling this thread alone)
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 16:00, Reply)
CORRECT pluralisation. I think.
That'll be embarrassing.

Ah, both can be used. painintheenglish.com/?p=627

f p

Not quite the right spelling, but it sounds right :)
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 16:05, Reply)
I'm tempted to use it as an alternative word
for bestial pr0n.

I can't take full credit for that one, I think it was one of T's
We named one of our beers after it.

"Watch as she takes it right up the (Alpine) Chough!"
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 16:25, Reply)
Give T's norks a squeeze for me
(I can ask you to do that as I know you'll forget.)

XXL WINGSPANS! APPROACHING 16 INCHES! (I've no idea whether that's big or not, but meh)
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 16:28, Reply)
According to Wikipedia the Common Raven (largest of the corvids, with the possible exception of the African Thick-billed Raven)
Has a wingspan of between 45 and 51 inches when fully grown.

Apologies for the lack of porn-related humour in that, but I found it interesting.

Will be sure to grope T's moobs. He won't think it anything out of the ordinary.
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 16:34, Reply)
Jesus Christ. That's massive.
Though I've never seen one that big...

How did your decanting go, btw?
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 16:36, Reply)
I read your post before Crow's
It was funnier without knowing what he had said.
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 16:38, Reply)
A success.
And a remarkable feat of dexterity on my part. Normally it takes two of us to do it (partly just to provide conversation whilst you wait for the fluid to siphon), but I managed to do it myself, holding one end up the tube at a safe level in the bucket, holding the other in the recipient bottle. Then every so often having to move the tube to the next bottle, balance it precariously and put a top on the one I'd just filled.

Actually ended up decanting the very last batch just before I set off to Todmorden in fact. They're now "maturing" in the bathroom.
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 16:40, Reply)
I'm particularly impressed you managed to do it with your limp wrists.
Well done :) Have you sampled it yet?
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 16:44, Reply)
Not properly
Though in order to start the siphoning, I have to give the long tube a good, hard suck, so I got a mouthful of fluid from doing that. Tasted quite promising.
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 16:50, Reply)
I'm glad you swallowed, rather than spitting it out.
What a waste otherwise.
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 16:51, Reply)
I would hate to see it go to waste
Even if it did make my stomach feel a bit funny as it trickled down.
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 16:54, Reply)
You'll get used to it, once you do it enough
Try not to gag too much, you'll damage the tube.
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 16:56, Reply)
What did you brew this time?

(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 16:52, Reply)
The same stuff that Markthebrewer bravely tried last weekend
Though we bottled it a bit earlier this year, so it shouldn't be quite as dry.
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 16:53, Reply)
It was nice
But too sour for my liking. We should share recipies.
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 16:57, Reply)
I concur. I was really impressed with Mark's elderberry-and-runner-bean creation
I shall look up the recipe for our one in our lab book at some point. It's stupidly easy to make, though it might not be alcoholic enough for his liking!
(, Thu 1 Jul 2010, 17:00, Reply)
Yep, he likes it strong
The quince one is very, very good.
