I just found this on a forum I use. Who do you write like?
www.iwl.me/b/b3a26720

Insert a passage of text that you've written from your blog, here, unfinished novel, dissertation etc... and it tells you whose style you most resemble.

I got Stephen King and Anne Rice.

James Fenimore Cooper
yep I have no idea either? Stephen King is pretty cool though. Have you read his Dark Tower series?

EDIT - He wrote Last Of The Mohicans so actually pretty chuffed!!

If you keep fucking reacting to it
everybody and their dog will keep doing it. Duh.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 0:23, Reply)
it's irritating as fuck

(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 8:34, Reply)
calm down
you're Chomping at the bit
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 8:41, Reply)
ha!

(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 9:14, Reply)
calm down Bobbychomp
it's only the internet.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 9:15, Reply)
It's not exactly consistent.
I'm getting just about everyone from J. K. Rowling to James Joyce.
(, Wed 21 Jul 2010, 23:06, Reply)
There's about 20 writers that they use I've found.

(, Wed 21 Jul 2010, 23:11, Reply)
Dan...Brown
And then Oscar Wilde.

Fruity!
(, Wed 21 Jul 2010, 23:11, Reply)
ooh Johnathon Swift
although it is from a story I wrote trying to sound like HG Wells, so not that good, I suppose
(, Wed 21 Jul 2010, 23:24, Reply)
Don't have anything I've written
Since I'm an uncreative sort, and do a degree mostly based around problem sheets with no essays

Found this though

EDIT: Digging out the player handout from the D&D game I do for friends gave H.P. sauce Lovecraft
(, Wed 21 Jul 2010, 23:25, Reply)
Did you get my Randomburn disc in the end?

(, Wed 21 Jul 2010, 23:34, Reply)
Possibly
Only two of them (Dave!* and Ainadae) had arrived by the time I went back from uni, and the porters are being rubbish about forwarding on mail at the moment. (theres a massive long ranty story to go with this, but I'll spare it)

*which unfortunately didnt work otherwise I'd have "accidentally" put a CD full of speedcore in the cd player in the college gym then left the volume on maximum
(, Wed 21 Jul 2010, 23:52, Reply)
You may not have got it, I sent it off pretty late.
The sleeve was handwritten, and the packet would have had a return address in West Yorkshire.
(, Wed 21 Jul 2010, 23:54, Reply)
I will get it sometime
When my mail eventually gets forwarded. Could be a while though.

Worst case, I'll have a load of stuff to listen to in fresher's week when I get back
(, Wed 21 Jul 2010, 23:56, Reply)
the unspeakable HORROR!

(, Wed 21 Jul 2010, 23:35, Reply)
I didnt even use the word cyclopean
It's obviously broken (or just reacting to the number of made up words, and the (deliberately) overly posh tone of the bit I fed it)
(, Wed 21 Jul 2010, 23:55, Reply)
Cory Doctorow
In your face world!
(, Wed 21 Jul 2010, 23:39, Reply)
I have no idea who this guy is btw

(, Wed 21 Jul 2010, 23:39, Reply)
he's written a few sci fi-y things
including Little Brother, which I really liked

He's also the dude who does boingboing
(, Wed 21 Jul 2010, 23:40, Reply)
it sounded familiar
I'm going to go and post some more text through the filter to see if it comes up with the same author or if, as it appears from the other b3tans comments, that it's a bit bollocks.
(, Wed 21 Jul 2010, 23:43, Reply)
I got another
Cory Doctorow but also one Chuck Palahniuk, a H. P. Lovecraft, a rather flattering George Orwell and completely insulting Dan Talentless-Twat Brown.

Yep, the filter is balls.
(, Wed 21 Jul 2010, 23:48, Reply)
It's a vocabulary counter thing
a bunch of people have debunked it.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 0:25, Reply)
are you saying that Becky is shit?
and that you think she should fuck off and die horribly with a whisk up her arse and a ballgag up her faff?
That's well out of order, TLiC, and it's fighting words, I reckon she's proper going to kick your arse
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 0:38, Reply)
Well obviously
but I was trying to be subtle about it, you spaz.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 7:57, Reply)
You write like somebody who says 'haitch'.

(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 6:23, Reply)
haha burn

(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 9:16, Reply)
Pet hate of mine
People hear my accent and assume that my spelling and grammar will be equally appalling, but they're generally not bad at all.
It bugs me that when I say 'aitch' people assume it's because I'm common, and not because I'm saying it correctly.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 9:22, Reply)
I can't wait to hear your accent
at the moment I'm picturing you as a silent movie star so you don't speak.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 9:28, Reply)
Not as soft as the scouse doctor off Casualty
Not as harsh as Margi Clarke.
Just very scouse.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 9:31, Reply)
so do you cough in the middle of words like
cheque?
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 9:36, Reply)
A lil bit yeah
I do drag those sounds sometimes, but they're more like a hard 'h' than a pleghmy 'k'.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 9:46, Reply)
Apropos of nothing
I like the Welsh bird in the Newport video currently on the popular page of Links. It's a sickness. I also have a friend the same age as me who is literally petrified of clowns. I'm tempted to send him a link to the zombie clown video also on the Links popular page.
(, Wed 21 Jul 2010, 23:42, Reply)
do that thing where you send a clown to stalk him over a few days,
it's fucking terrifying.

EDIT: here's the article about it. WARNING: CONTAINS TERRIFYING CLOWN
newslite.tv/2010/04/14/evil-clown-service-to-scare-at.html#more
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 9:17, Reply)
I got him
for all of the entries on my profile page, quite chuffed as I've liked all of his stuff that I've read.
(, Wed 21 Jul 2010, 23:56, Reply)
well fuck you then ya big beardy cunt!
Yay, see you on Saturday buddy (I'm excited) :D
(, Wed 21 Jul 2010, 23:58, Reply)
Me too!

(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 14:41, Reply)

(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 0:14, Reply)
Ian fucking Fleming?
Fuck off, cunts.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 0:33, Reply)
I got David Foster Wallace
but I don't know who he is.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 9:14, Reply)
me too
and James Joyce. I do know who he is though, and am bemused.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 9:48, Reply)
Putting in the words to Agadoo* gives you Cory Doctorow, I'm sure he'll be delighted to learn.
* I looked 'em up it's not like I typed it all in from memory or owt.
(, Thu 22 Jul 2010, 9:32, Reply)
Any idea how this thing works?
I pasted two of my lengther, non-sex-lie qotw answers and was compared to Cory Doctorow and then H.P Lovecraft. Given I don't think I've read anything by either of these people, I don't know how to respond to this revelation.
