I have just caught one of my staff smoking weed outside - it fucking STANK of it down there and whilst he was not still smoking it when I saw him there was no way on earth it was anyone else.
Now I don't care much (I'm not a fucking hypocrite), my boss is away so I am running the firm, but at the same time doing nothing is kind of condoning it.
What do I do?
Incidentally it smelled like fucking LOVELY weed.

Was fed a ridiculous story about how there was this girl who was there a minute ago, it must have been her etc, really lame lies.
I think as we leave tonight I will just say that if I even suspect it again there'll be trouble.

Say no further action will be taken, but if he gets caught again there will be.
Simples.

And as soon as he says, "Alright then," yell, "HA! GOTCHA!" in his face.
Foolproof

If I was going to do anything, I'd give him a bollocking telling him not to do it again, or I'd get the police involved... and then if he does it again, sack him there and then.
The fact that you're thinking about yourself, about how you'd like some and are a bit short on the stuff, shows that you ain't fit for the roll of being the boss.
If he's dealing on premises, as an employee, the whole company can come into disripute (at best).

Super Gonz - Champion of justice. A moral compass for a wretched society. Keep up the good work my friend!

You've built up a company, mortgaged your house into the company, are resonbilible for the livelyhood of X amount of people. You've spent many nights worrying about your company that you've built up, about tax returns and employee rights. You've put everything you've got into this, and god damn it, it works.
Then you go on holiday and leave someone in charge, and it turns out that he steals weed for personal use off an employee, and the kid goes to the papers/police, or tells his mates... eaither way, the company's reputation can be distroyed, all 'cus you left it in the hands of someone who likes a bit of a puff.

You've left your firm in the hands of someone who cares enough about staff morale and the reputation of the firm in the eyes of the adjacent company to have a quiet word with someone who's been having a joint outside, rather than either turn a complete blind eye (much the easiest course of action) or call the law - terrible PR and a lot of trouble for all concerned, and a waste of police time as much as anything else.
All this loyalty and concern from an employee you care so little about that you have never discharged your obligation to set up a (non-contributory) company pension despite this being the fucking LAW for a good 5 years? What a lucky, lucky man you are.

Lolawnser: Knick the weed.
Real awnser: Give him the talking-too/bollocking/whatever, delegate the resonciblity up the chain of command when he comes back, then you ain't involved any more.

That is the worst case scenario sure. I doubt Monty would be irresponsible.

1) I'm not seriously entertaining the idea of nicking his weed
2) He's not dealing on the premises, just arranging stuff for the evenings
3) It's my concerns about the firm next door clocking him smoking and issues about that, that led to me saying anything at all.
I'm more than fit to be the boss, you cheeky (and ill-informed) cunt.

1) Good, I'm sorry I interprated "Thing is I'm nearly out of weed: I could do with 'confiscating' some..." with "Thing is I'm nearly out of weed: I could do with 'confiscating' some...".
2) I'm pretty sure that's still illegal, 'soliciting' or something like that, could be wrong there, donno.
3) I would be too.
Sorry, I'm only informed by what you say about a situation, and if you don't wish anyone who disagrees with your apparent possition on the subject, then fuck off to everybodydoesit.com's forums.
Although on a non-trolling note, I donno if it's a good idea to give a written warning, 'cus if you do, it's on record that the company knows about what is happening.

3)glad to hear it
I've left it at the 'never again must I catch you being so fucking stupid' stage...

You can not do anything without risking unfair dismissal; so give him a lecture about zero tolerance policies.
If he has a locker go in and nick his weed - he can not exactly report you can he? Also chances are he has stashed it somewhere so have a good look around.

(all the while ruining the hard-won business bought for cash from the massive fortune of a greedy, parsimonious cunt who, despite owning half of North London and several classic sports cars, does not see fit to give inflationary payrises to his long-suffering staff).

what would you do? It's still recreational substance abuse in the workplace, weed or booze. MTFU and give him a warning, and tell him that you've no objections to what he does in private.
