I often regret buying my house
as it appears to be made of cardboard and some kind of cheese product by a blind builder with no set square.

Bottom, better views there

my house is frustratingly wonky
although the other day when I was fixing skirting board I actually discovered that by pure chance, two walls were at 90 degrees to each other. I was amazed.

Wonky houses are ace.

(, Mon 8 Nov 2010, 11:42, Reply)
Old wonky houses are ace
Hoewever, mine is new build
(, Mon 8 Nov 2010, 11:43, Reply)
ah, mine is a Victorian terrace job
solid is fuck, but slightly wonky
(, Mon 8 Nov 2010, 11:43, Reply)
I'm going to be doing my damndest
to find a Victorian house when I buy. Those fuckers knew how to build houses.
(, Mon 8 Nov 2010, 11:46, Reply)
Georgian for me thanks

(, Mon 8 Nov 2010, 11:46, Reply)
both good
the georgian places around here are all massive and expensive unfortunately.
(, Mon 8 Nov 2010, 11:47, Reply)
That's the problem with Georgian usually.

(, Mon 8 Nov 2010, 11:48, Reply)
They are pretty though
and massive.
(, Mon 8 Nov 2010, 11:49, Reply)
Georgian houses are lovely
but I'm likely only going to be able to get into a terrace at first go. Victorian it is!

To be fair, as long as it's pre 1940, it'll be decently built.
(, Mon 8 Nov 2010, 11:50, Reply)
Mine was built in about 1840
It has a bit of a damp problem in the kitchen, but other than that it's rock solid.
(, Mon 8 Nov 2010, 11:52, Reply)
they are until you need to replace woodwork like architrave and skirting boards.

(, Mon 8 Nov 2010, 11:43, Reply)
Damn you!
Out-smugged via skirting boards!
(, Mon 8 Nov 2010, 11:42, Reply)
Mine wasn't built to the highest quality
but compared to modern builds that are built out of wood and plasterboard, it's a palace
(, Mon 8 Nov 2010, 11:43, Reply)
I hate new houses.
You know that old houses, regardless of wonky wall etc are going to last another hundred years.
(, Mon 8 Nov 2010, 11:45, Reply)
A lot of new houses have stupid shaped rooms
and they cram in loads of rooms, so most of them are too small.
(, Mon 8 Nov 2010, 11:48, Reply)
There's no sound proofing in modern builds
you can hear people next door talking
(, Mon 8 Nov 2010, 11:48, Reply)
mine is a rock-solid victorian mansion block
sometimes people do get a little bit noisy but mostly it's amazingly quiet, esp for central london
(, Mon 8 Nov 2010, 11:50, Reply)
Mine is a late 60's piece of crap
but it's a detached piece of crap so I don't have to listen to my neighbours doing whatever it is they do.
(, Mon 8 Nov 2010, 11:52, Reply)
i only dare break out "singstar" or "guitar hero" at my dad's detached place
although my walls are extremely thick, i worry about the chimneys in every room...
(, Mon 8 Nov 2010, 11:55, Reply)
My detached house is wasted on me
I've been there almost 5 years and I haven't had one SEXY PARTY
(, Mon 8 Nov 2010, 11:58, Reply)
You should make a point of being naked all the time
just in case a neighbour pops round
(, Mon 8 Nov 2010, 11:59, Reply)
I dunno, my cat attacks dangly things

(, Mon 8 Nov 2010, 12:02, Reply)
You should be fine then
unless it has an aversion to button mushrooms
(, Mon 8 Nov 2010, 12:04, Reply)
isn't that because
you don't like people messing up your house though?
(, Mon 8 Nov 2010, 12:00, Reply)
Yeah, i'm not fond of people being in my house
they never take their shoes off or use coasters
(, Mon 8 Nov 2010, 12:04, Reply)
Non use of coasters is utterly reprehensible.

(, Mon 8 Nov 2010, 12:08, Reply)
Newer new builds have to have a certain amount of soundproofing

(, Mon 8 Nov 2010, 11:52, Reply)
Is that certain amount "none"

(, Mon 8 Nov 2010, 11:54, Reply)
"Newer" as in that last 10-20 years when building regs were tightened up a lot
Your late 60s piece of crap is the reason why this happened.
(, Mon 8 Nov 2010, 11:56, Reply)
^this
I bought my last place off plan. Bog standard Persimmon flat.

It was quiet as fuck. Couldn't hear a thing from upstairs, and they had a new-born baby.
(, Mon 8 Nov 2010, 11:55, Reply)
As in place before this one?
Or has your new build subsided so much that the walls are now wonky?
(, Mon 8 Nov 2010, 11:57, Reply)
place before this one
the new build was off a really impressive quality. Were there for two years and didn't have a single problem which was nice.
(, Mon 8 Nov 2010, 12:01, Reply)
My current place
was built in 1983, can't hear a damn thing from either side unless they're really thumping up the stairs.
