Im now stupidly excited about the impending movie adaptation of the Dark Tower.
What books would you like to be turned into films?

Alt Q? What would Monty like for christmas?

Alt: Braiiiiiiiiiins?

Mort.
Alt Q: This
(, Fri 3 Dec 2010, 15:33, Reply)
The Dark Tower was a bit shit
so I'm hoping the films will be enjoyable and good.

I'd love a fantastic adaption of Dance, Dance, Dance. But in terms of making a good film provided they got a good script, I reckon The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova could make a good watch.

Alt Q: some nice cognac

I love the Dark Tower
It's definitely in my top three books (series). I am obsessing over who they should cast. It's sad really.

World War Z
Only I don't think they will do it very well, I would like them to film it as a serious documentary. In fact, it would make a better TV film as a two part documentary, about four hours in total, otherwise they won't be able to get all the good bits in.

The trouble with turning books into films is that books can contain so much information that a film simply cannot convey, descriptions of actions and emotions just can't be recreated on films and films take a long time to cover small bits of a book so you have to edit any normal sized book extremely heavily to make it viable for a two hour film, and that almost always means removing a lot of the bits people actually want to see.
(, Fri 3 Dec 2010, 15:51, Reply)
completely agree
but when I get attached to a story I just want as much of it as possible in any form so movies are always a nice addition. And if it introduces someone else to the book then bonus.
(, Fri 3 Dec 2010, 15:53, Reply)
They should do World War Z
But not solely in the way of interviewing the survivors, but include lots of 'surviving footage recorded at the time of the incidents'.
(, Fri 3 Dec 2010, 15:55, Reply)
Yeah, that's what I had in mind
especially the first battle at Yonkers, where they can show all the camera shots of the soldiers battle helmets. And satellite images of the nuclear exchange.
(, Fri 3 Dec 2010, 15:59, Reply)
Definitely Yonkers
Some of the other scenes I don't think would film well as a documentary, like the pilot on the run after bailing out the plane.
(, Fri 3 Dec 2010, 16:02, Reply)
Yeah, but they could maybe put in a "Dramatic reconstruction" or something
or just leave it out, It's a part that is clearly designed to be played by michelle rodriguez and she's a shit actress.
(, Fri 3 Dec 2010, 16:15, Reply)
Brookmyre's Pandaemonium would make a good film, I think.
And gory as hell.
(, Fri 3 Dec 2010, 15:53, Reply)
Agreed, I liked that one
A lot.
(, Fri 3 Dec 2010, 15:56, Reply)
Yeah, and school children having sex.

(, Fri 3 Dec 2010, 16:00, Reply)
I'm sure they were sixth formers though so it's OK.
One Fine Day... would make a good film as well. As long as they didn't let James Fucking Nesbit anywhere near any more adaptations of Brookmyre's stuff ever again.
(, Fri 3 Dec 2010, 16:08, Reply)
You mean like in Cruel Intentions
American Pie and hundreds of other 'teen movies'?
(, Fri 3 Dec 2010, 16:08, Reply)
none
they inevitably fuck up the adaptation.

also can i just add here that i had to spend 2 hours today going through the results of my psychometric test.

result? PSYCHOMETRIC TESTING IS A LOAD OF BOLLOCKS. 2 hours of my life plus the 1 hour that it took to do the test that i will never see again... they should just have given me the chart and let me colour it in, would have saved 3 hours and i'd have been just as accurate. and i could have made the firm £1,200 during that same 3 hours!
(, Fri 3 Dec 2010, 15:56, Reply)
I am patiently awaiting a TV series of the Roger Zelazny "Amber" novels.
Doubt it will ever happen though.
I am however looking forward to fire and ice.

Alt Q. A decent smoking jacket. That old one has definitely seen better days (of the Raj).
(, Fri 3 Dec 2010, 15:59, Reply)

Q: none. Films of books I like are almost without exception shit.

talking of the ss
did you see the deadliest warrior episode which paired off the SS and the Viet Kong. It was brilliant. The flamethrower was brutal.

the dirty books I read, but not into porn, maybe soft porn, rated r stuff
Especially the regency period ones, I genuinely like the story lines
honest

edit: this is from a book I love www.imdb.com/title/tt0491152/

alt: fiiiiiiiiiive gooooooolden riiiiiiiiiings

Not into porn?
"regency period"

That sound revolting, and quite a specific quirk.
(, Fri 3 Dec 2010, 16:18, Reply)
oh sure, I just think it would maybe detract from the love story
it's the language that gets me, my last tattoo was a quote from one of the books, Sin by Sharon Page
(, Fri 3 Dec 2010, 16:28, Reply)
no idea why it's saying those are seventy some dollars, pretty sure I paid fifteen for my copy
also, when you click the look inside bit and click surprise me, it's definitely surprising because what the showed me was not from that book
(, Fri 3 Dec 2010, 16:30, Reply)
My favourite review of that book:
One Star

Don't Buy

This book is very hard to follow as the language is from mid evil times.
