This is a question Prejudice

"Are you prejudiced?" asks StapMyVitals. Have you been a victim of prejudice? Are you a columnist for a popular daily newspaper? Don't bang on about how you never judge people on first impressions - no-one will believe you.

veggy prejudice?
I have more than been pissed off and hungry over the years as there has been little thought going into putting more non meat dishes on the menu but I am never going to call it 'discrimination'. It's even worse in europe except when in Italy, bless them.
If people want to eat meat I have no issue with that and am not prejudiced against it, in fact one of my best friends is a butcher(Pennington and Dunnes, Cannon Hill lane, Raynes Park, purveyors of quality meat to the catering trade)
In the same way I would never demand that my veggieness is practised by everybody else and laws changed so that I dont feel discriminated against and demand that everybody stops eating meat.
So those whine about non meat eaters can all fuck off and join the BMP (British meat party) and demand only british beef for british people and stop being defensive when you try to justify swallowing dead flesh like a cannibal, I am not having a go because I dont want to eat it, you are very welcome to it.
And those who get on their soap box and demand equality for veggies stfu and be thankful that there is actually something you can eat on the menu as there are plenty of people in the world who have no choice as to what they might eat next, if anything.
Things have changed for the better in the last 20 years and there is plenty of choice, there is no prejudice, just people who can't be arsed to think differently.

Plenty of choice?
If you judged by the vegetarian options available when eating out, or indeed just simple stuff like getting a sandwich you'd think vegetarian people lived exclusively off of cheese, or possibly a combination of bitter vegetables boiled for 25 years.

Then again, if you travel to a major city you might get the option of falafels AND cheese too.

Indian
restaurants usually cater well for vegetarians. But I agree that the options otherwise are very much limited.

Vegetarianism is a choice.

"I am not prejudiced against...swallowing dead flesh like a cannibal".
Indeed?

I also like the variation on 'I'm not racist, one of my best friends is black'

At least you're not an evangelical veggie. That section are the reason most people get pissed off at vegetarians.

As a cannibal
I'd like to point out we eat the vegetarians first, as they're tastier

Mmm...
...delicious healthy veggie flesh. The non smokers are the first to go too.

And their flesh would be lower in saturated fats, too.
Like pigs, and unlike cattle, humans do not naturally produce saturated fat internally. We only get it from our diet. Of our meat animals, only cattle, sheep and goats do produce it.
Meats that are touted as "naturally low in saturated fats" (e.g. venison, kangaroo) are basically just not fed with any dairy produce or by-products. If you don't feed such stuff to pigs, they will be, too.
But most veggies eat lots of dairy produce. Vegans would make for a much healthier snack. Though they'd only be a snack, as there's not much meat on 'em.

You should try living in Hungary and trying to eat out
Everything's either deep-fried or covered in dodgy sauce, and it's hard to find anything without meat.

I learned to say 'gombászik', which told the skilled Magyar caterers that I was one of those mad foreign unnatural non meat-eaters.

Their pizzas were excellent though. Any topping you like. And the Polish veggie pizzas have broccoli on!

Argh
I was in Budapest last week with a vegetarian friend - not even McDonalds had a decent veggie option.

Fortunately we found the only vegetarian restaurant in Budapest, and it was delicious :D
(, Tue 6 Apr 2010, 16:46, closed)
You ate the whole restaurant?

(, Tue 6 Apr 2010, 18:08, closed)
I was there a while back.
...and it was delicious!

Vegudice?

I think some flesh-munchers assume that, as soon as it is revealed we are salad-munchers...
we're going to start forcing our carroty ways down their throats. Militants haven't done nice veggies any favours really.

Surely the more veggies the better as the more meat there is left for them? Hehe.
