# as it's quiet tonight
have an arty post - a model I'm working on*

Yes, it is low fucking poly, and yes it may be used for a game.

* I remember when that phrase meant I was about to get a slap from an anorexic girl

# Sculptris?
Nice arm muscles. Been messing with Zbrush today. Great program, but the interface is evil.
(, Tue 12 Apr 2011, 22:08, archived)
# sculptris indeed.
ZBrush isn't a program, it's an exercise in making people go insane. Worst. Interface. Ever. Sculptris does the modelling side of things a thousand times better than Zbrush. It's just a shame that it doesn't have any of the power features that ZBrush has. I spent most of yesterday scouring the web for ways to avoid using ZBrush and discovered a neat little 3DS plugin called Wrapit, which does semi-automated low-poly topology creation around hi-poly meshes. Very useful and allows me to avoid opening ZBrush ever again.

# 'programme'
I am disappointed in both of you.

# a programme is an itinerary of events.
a program is a software application.
(, Tue 12 Apr 2011, 22:18, archived)
# Oh.
I assumed that Zbrush was an algorithmic process for within sculptris, I did not know that it was software in it's own right.

Now I feel dirty.

# 'it's'
I am disappointed in you.

# That one was deliberate, a kind of clever jest.
I take no pride in that though, the programme one was not.

# Noice!

I think you should have /board choose a name for him.

# I'm thinking "Neville".
(, Tue 12 Apr 2011, 22:16, archived)
# great, now I won't be
able to look at it ever again without thinking 'Neville'

# It is a Boglin though,
no?
(, Tue 12 Apr 2011, 22:18, archived)
# now you mention it
yeah. I didn't realize it, but I guess that must have been the inspiration. I had forgotten all about boglins! Now I want one for my stylus pen.
(, Tue 12 Apr 2011, 22:21, archived)
# Hey, that's a good idea
I think Neville suits him

# Low fucking poly
and is it for a game were in my fucking head before I read down.

Damn you!

# if it is used for a game
will it be a goody or a baddy?
(, Tue 12 Apr 2011, 22:35, archived)
# depends on your perspective.
Is the player automatically a goody, or not? Would creatures under the player's control be assigned the same good or bad alignment as the player?
(, Tue 12 Apr 2011, 22:40, archived)
# hmmm
the player is potentially a bad guy, I'd say the creature would be assigned the same alignment as the player.
(, Tue 12 Apr 2011, 22:46, archived)
# in the game, the player will play a bad
guy, but will end up doing some good by the story's end. So I guess Neville is a bad creature, but working for the player, so it's not his fault.

# sculptris is fantastic
but as soon as i start doing something detailed, the bloody computer slows to shit.. it's only an ancient laptop.

edit:wonderfully done
(, Tue 12 Apr 2011, 22:43, archived)
# turn the detail slider down to about 10%
and it should prevent the mesh from getting too detailed. If it still gets slow, hit the reduction button a few times to simplify the whole mesh.
