I have to question the legality of either outcome.
Probably best I just call the idea off.

I didn't know pop groups had graduates, but whatever.

Noncearuuuuu!
According to Wiki, a vast majority are legal (some even older than me)
One or two are... *estimates* probably 14-15, so I retract my SHAAAAAG statement partially. XD

ill just go for the ones that have 'graduated' - ie, gotten too old, and left.
Is that AKB48, or morning musume?

I have absolutely no idea; I only found out about AKB48 just now.
I'll accept the graduates then. XD

having been to japan many a time
ive seen them go from creepy otaku preference (AKB is short for AKIBA, as in Akibahara) to bestselling pop group. Their adverts were everywhere last time i went in feb.

So it looks like they're really making a name for themselves, not just among the otaku/hikikomori crowd...
I'm slowly starting to understand more of these Japanese groups; my housemates are obsessed with Tego Mass, I think they're called.

I blame Taiko no tatsujin.
I think I might have heard my housemates mentioning them.
I don't know whether it's a trend or it's just confined to one or two groups, but from what I see, a lot of male pop stars like to dress as women? And pull it off too well? Like Yuya Tegoshi.

What would be the point of a nice, welcoming clique?

It's a kind of open clique where anybody is invited
a sort of non-clique clique. *cliques*

If there are goings on behind the scenes I'm not privvy to any of them
but there are clearly groups of people who don't like boards mingling or even shifts.

There are people who don't like Art or Photography on /board
those who like photography but not stylised HDR photography etc. To me it's all the same if there is a clear definition links go to /links, Text goes to /talk and pictures and stuff you made yourself go to /board there has been too many divisions any more and it will end up like 4chan with a million cliques all trying to out troll each other. I have ventured to /talk before and it's not an unfriendly place it's just banter mostly but I do my chatting on Facebook instead.

it's easier to talk nonsense with people yer familiar with ultimately
but yeah, if this place goes all 3.0 or something it'll be *chan

absolutely
i go to /talk when /board is dead. usually just read what's going on. sometimes it's hilarious, other times it's dull.
I've posted once or twice and had no problem over there. I guess, it's like discomeats says it's what's familiar and I can see how it can easily go wrong for someone who's unfamiliar with b3ta and how the different boards work
is b3ta going 3.0?
