and what do you do with one once you have carved it, i've never ever seen one in real life.
i'm greatly amused by people creating sculptural compost.

only to find one i'd got all the seeds out of it, that if i wanted to carve it, there wasn't any flesh for the pie

lightly salted and allowed to dry slowly in a low oven the seeds are also rather nice.

it was really nice but only used up a tiny amount of what we had
so most of it went in the bin

tasted a bit while carving this one.
it's horrible.
the inside of a pumpkin is almost
hollow. there is some stringy bits and loads of seeds.
it has about an inch thick flesh which is edible.
after carving a jack o'lantern though the pumpkin
rots quite quickly.

it stops it rotting or drying out & going all wrinkly.

to use all of the pumpkin. I roast the seeds (in their shells) and make soup from the flesh. you can usually get quite a lot of soup from one pumpkin.

If so, how long did it take?

just browse the gallery and make stencils out of the images of finished pumkins yourself using potatoshop.
yes i made them myself.
icluding hollowing-out time, it took one hour and forty-five minutes to do the two of them.
